Redeeming the Gems:
You can redeem the gems whenever you want. The better gems
will yield higher level armor. You can redeem more than one gem. You will get different
armor pieces the second time you use a gem. You can only get one set of each quality
armor. If you try to give the smith a third gem of the same quality, he will keep
it!! However, you can get a set of the same armor, but of different quality by redeeming a
third or fourth gem. (Thanks to Caeryn Dryad at CoD for this tidbit.)
Note:
This quest became repeatable during
A Perfect
Paradox and
you can now get more than one
set of the same type of armor!

Update Information
During the To
Raise A Banner of Flame update in July, Shadow Armor changed again!
The smiths were repeatedly murdered and are located at nearby lifestones.
Their vitae has made them unable to produce the Shadow Armor at its former
strength. To see stats of the Pre-Patch Shadow Armor, click here.
Adding Atlan Stones for
Elemental Protection
The Taste
of Twilight brought a new change to the Shadow Armor. Atlan Stones may
be inserted for new elemental protections. Read more about this change in Aliester's
Corollary.
Neo-Shadow Armor
During the
Fever Dreams
event, the Armorers returned to their former health and were able to produce
Shadow Armor at its
former strength. This armor is commonly referred to as Neo-Shadow Armor and
is a silvery hue, with a wield requirement of Level 30+.
Alean the Steel forger tells you, "Nuhmudira has finally restored us to full
health! She has also stocked us with some extra supplies that we needed, such
that we can provide you with either a version of the original Shadow Armor or
its successor. If you wish to trade one version of your Celdon set for another,
simply hand it to me. Please take out all Atlan Stones from your armor before
handing it to me."
Alean the Steel Forger tells you, "Also, if you wish to color your new Greater
Shadow Armor, you may buy a vat of color from my assistant. If you do not like
the color, please give me the armor piece and I will replace it with the
standard piece, which you may then choose to recolor."
Statik Shot of LC reports the following:
"Players who turn in Glimmering or Sparkling Gems will now receive the
original Lesser or Medium Shadowhunter Armor. Players who have the 'stoneable'
or 'post-patch' Lesser or Medium Shadowhunter Armor will be able to trade
it for the original version, and vice-versa.
Players who turn in Scintillating Gems will now receive armor very similar
to the original Greater Shadowhunter Armor. The differences between this
GS Armor and the original is the new armor is a different color (and
players will have more color options come March), and that these GS pieces
have a Wield_Requirement of level 30 (meaning you have to be at least
level 30 to use the armor at all). Other than that, all stats are the
same.
Players will also be able to trade the new Greater Shadow Armor pieces for
the old 'stoneable' pieces and vice-versa. Currently, players with
original Greater Shadow Armor are not able to trade in their original GS*
for the 'stoneable' versions."
Shadow Armor Dye
More changes came
during Persuasion, as 3 vendors began selling dyes:
Tamar Ibn Rashid tells you, "Welcome, welcome!
Look at my pretty dyes! Choose one, for your very own!"
Tamar Ibn Rashid tells you, "Don't tell the folks who bought the other
shades but that's my favorite one! Enjoy!"
Dye vendors can be found
near the three Shadow Armor crafters:
Al Jalima
- 7.1N, 3.0E
(Amuli)
Eastham
- 18.6N, 62.8E
- Maere the Dyepot Peddler (Celdon)

three types of neo-Greater Shadow Armor.
Adding Shards
During
A
Gathering of Colors, adventurers began finding shards on Crystal
Shards. When used with Neo-Shadow Armor the shards increase the AL by 50
and add a Major Ward spell (see the table below for which shard adds which
spell). The Armor also turns black in color with gold trim.
Neo-Shadow Armor with
shards have a 0 Difficulty and the following protections:
A/A/A/A/A/A/Ba. You must be level 50+ to wield.
Greater
Shadow Amuli - AL:240
Greater Shadow Celdon - AL: 260
Greater Shadow Koujia -
AL: 245
Once you use a shard, it is
destroyed. Shards may be given and hooked. You may use different wards on
a set of armor. For example, it's possible to have a Greater Shadow Celdon
suit composed of legs with Major Flame Ward, Girth with Major Acid Ward,
Breastplate with Major Frost Ward, and Sleeves with Major Storm Ward. At
this time, there is no known way to reverse sharding GSx.
Dyeing Sharded Shadow Armor
During the Mirror, Mirror
event, it became possible to dye Sharded Shadow Armor in 3 different colors.
Visit Miko Li, Jojii Adherent in the Kara Pub at 83.3S, 47.2E and hand her
vials of Lapyan, Hennacin or Relanim to receive dye suitable for use on the
Sharded Armor. Visit the
patch page
for pictures of dyed armor!
Miko Li, Jojii Adherent
tells you, "Though I try to live my life according to Jojii's path I sometimes
find that I lack discipline. I have begun painting, and hope to continue doing
so. I have noticed that many who come here seek the armor that is wrought by
Koga Hideki and his peers."
Miko Li, Jojii Adherent tells you, "I wish to assist those who wish to bring
the colors of the rainbow to the armor he makes. If you hand me vials of
Lapyan, Hennacin and Relanim dyes, I will make them into paints that will stay
upon the shadow armor that has been enhanced with the new magical shards."
