Hey, Maggie --
I'm writing to fill you in on the details of my improved circumstances, viz: my extremely
excellent new armor.
I owe it all to you, of course, and to your fans and supporters. For months I toiled in
the dungeons and on the killing fields of Dereth protected only by my wits. Then things
got better.
Pigroast II generously contributed a mattekar coat. This was a profound turning point for
me; I became dangerous. Other players began to avoid dungeons I patrolled -- because I
killed everything. With my new bow, generously donated by Vilegoroth, I gained confidence
even faster.
But success breeds ambition. I moved up to tougher dungeons. I began to carry a nearly
continuous burden of vitae. I was becoming old and beaten, discouraged, depressed, even
bitter.
Then Danier stepped in and transformed my Derethian existence. A cuirass with AL 185 and
gritty protective magiks was the anchor piece of the outfit. Sleeves and leggings close to
185, cool matching (gold) gauntlets and a fine helmet completed the kit. The only item I
kept were my sollerettes.
I did a shakedown cruise for a week up in the crater, enjoying total superiority. After
that I headed to the Direlands, planning to bring peace and good order to those areas,
also.
I decided to run in before the patch, avoiding the possibility of trouble from bugs and
server lag. But, as I prepared to head out, I realized that I wasn't sure how best to
actually GET there. I planned to tie to a portal in Teth after arrival and then use the
lifestone in Ayan Baqur. That would give me portal access to each. But the actual route to
Teth was a mystery.
I @telled Danier and, luckily, he was in-game and agreed to help. He buffed me up to total
invulnerability and we started the run from the N. Direlands portal. After many zigs and
zags we arrived safely. From Teth I backtracked and portalled again into the mid-dires and
ran to Ayan Baqur. Whew! I've enclosed a few shots of Danier and myself, taken enroute to
Teth. The last photo shows Fort Tethana in the distance.

Everything was wonderful, totally and amazingly wonderful, for about 2-4 hours. I managed
to completely forget that the patch was likely to create specific changes in the culture
of the Direlands.
Then, these new monsters arrived. I dunno. I am starting to average 5-8% vitae almost all
the time. I think of the crater fondly, and daydream about the fun and fellowship I
enjoyed in the Ashen Tears dungeon outside of Zaikhal. Dear old Zaikhal. Maybe I need a
week of light duty back in middle Osteth, do you think?
Anyway, your sidekicks Danier, Pigroast & Vilegoroth have improved the game for me
hugely, and I ask you to pass my thanks to them. Did you get my printed wish-list of magic
jewelry? How about that composite bow, have you located one yet? I'm sure one of
those bows, the new ones, would improve my over-all gaming experience significantly, don't
you think?
And, er ...maybe we should postpone your planned visit to my twin bases in Teth and Ayan
Baqur. The situation has been unstable, fluid, quite hairy, actually. I think I should
visit YOU. We could hang out in town, do that Pong thing, catch up on our reading. You
know, I've been meaning to read a lot of this lore for months -- now might be a fine time
to learn about the heritage of Dereth, to get in touch with the history of my
surroundings, the culture, the exploits of the heroes of yesteryear.
I'm telling ya, these are some tough monsters. And very deadly lag. Here's what I really
want to know: how come the monsters are unaffected by lag?
