Zen Tek Ken of FF reports: I have found 2 so
far (Olthoi Matron Nymphs) one in A’mun Desert and one near Nanto. I think
it took more war shots to kill then the matron that spawns in Dires. On
Death It summons a portal where it first spawned to a dungeon that is
restricted to 1-19 non tie able or summon able. Both had summoned the
portal, I was of course to high to go in.
Managed to take a lowbie char on another account through the 1-19 portal
I found. Just did the 1-19 portal the Olthoi Matron Nymph summoned. Inside
was some olthoi grubs and a nest. After killing I got this text:
Rippeas Mule rends the nest in the Gharu'ndim lands.
The beacon crumbles, and with it the will of the olthoi. They flee the
surface and in their wake other creatures return to the surface.
The room begins to shudder, the portal looks to be a safe escape from this
place, as waiting to recall may take too long. Hurry to the portal!

A crushing blow from Rippeas Mule rips the olthoi nest

has been destroyed. As the chitin warriors are driven from the surface, the
former denizens return to claim the land once more.

Hi, Maggie! This is
Syrlacc of WE. My level 31 Archer Crylac, along with another player just
slayed the Egg in the Southern Desert. The timer on the spawn of the Matron
seems to be 2 hours, and it spawned right at the coords you posted. The nest
itself has a handful of low-level olthoi like Nymphs, some Grubs, and the
egg, which has a lot of health but no attack on its own. Attached are
some screenshots. Keep up the great work!

The
central desert of Osteth shudders as an Olthoi Matron breaks through the
surface of the land. The horde there is bolstered by her appearance.
Tara Malkav of MT reports: Maggie -- I'm just writing in to confirm the
finding of another olthoi nest on Morningthaw. Paraduck and I discovered the
matron for the portal (20-39) just outside Uziz at 6.4S, 27.0E. We got on
two of our lower level chars and my level 21 archer (xbow) Vidorian Malkav
got the kill\global.
In the central desert of Osteth a brave warrior,
Vidorian Malkav, destroys the olthoi nest there. The olthoi remain
undeterred by the effort of the warriors, and the invasion continues.
The room begins to shake and become unstable. The
portal appears to be the safest route from this place.
Julian's Touch sends this
report from TD: So I started to ran around Samsur, and I received the coords
by irc chat. The matron was at: 6.4S, 27E
I asked to camp it, while I was getting my level 23 bow guy.
Level 70 Matron, I couldn't take a pic. As soon she got killed, a portal
opened (20-39). I went inside, 2 nymphs and 2 drones were at drop.
Easy cleaned. Te large room also contained some grubs, and the Nest, level
60. I couldn't ID it either. I killed it and got this message:
In the central desert of Osteth a brave warrior, Touch

Hey Maggie it's Julian's
Touch from TD.
We just got a broadcast:
The northern desert of Osteth shudders as an Olthoi
Matron breaks through the surface of the land. The horde there is bolstered
by her appearance.
So I started to run around Al-Jalima, and I received the coords by irc chat.
The matron was at 8.8N, 17.4E
I must admit something .... the broadcast appeared 5 min on HG before us
[Julian sent in a correction that Zen Tek Ken of FF first discovered this
nest], so
they found the matron before we got our broadcast on TD lol
Level 70 Matron. As soon she got killed a portal opened (20-39). I went
inside, 2 nymphs and 2 Gardeners were at the drop. Easy cleaned. The large
room contained also some grub, and the Nest (level 60).
Nest is shattered by your assault!
Beneath the sands of the northern Osteth desert, Touch of Julian has struck
a mighty blow against the Olthoi Horde. As the nest crumples beneath the
assault, the olthoi retreat beneath the sand. The invasion is driven away
from the majority of central Osteth.
The room begins to shake and become unstable. The portal appears to be the
safest route from this place.
Just after the kill, we got this one :
In the southern desert, an Olthoi Matron has stormed
through the sands to lay waste to all. Brave adventurers are needed to
destroy her.
But it's a bug I think. It was reported that the matron summon the
portal, but no nest inside. Now the 20-39 Area is back to normal spawn!
I would like to thank a lot SHAOLIN of TD, cause he helped me on the 5th and

It is believed that each Queen triggers the next one in the sequence. On
Morningthaw we did Stonehold, Beach Fort, Mountain Pass, then Hidden Valley
(in that order). Each one triggered the next until what is believed to be
the final queen (at least for 60-79) spawned in the Northern Esper
Mountains. We mistakenly killed the Stonehold nest again though which
despawned all the queens. At this point we've yet to finish the 60-79 olthoi
nests off, but that is the current order.
In the
northwestern reaches of Osteth, the beleaguered city of Stonehold issues a
call for help, as an Olthoi Matron [sic] is spotted somewhere outside the
cities boundaries.
As the brave adventurers led by
Cederian, destroy the nest guarded by the Olthoi Queen near Stonehold, new

Elysa Appears To Lead the Assault
On September 30, Jyng of WE
reported the following global:
High Queen
Elysa Strathelar and her entourage arrive at Candeth Keep. They pour over plans
to assault a vast network of hives that extends beneath the majority of Dereth.
Antius Blackmoor stands at her side as forward scout, and Nuhmudira acts as her
chief advisor. The three join the forward guard there and await assistance from
any who would aid in removing the Olthoi from Dereth.
For directions to Candeth
Keep, visit the
Shortcuts
page!
Royal Guard
tells you, "Now that the High Queen has arrived I can be more at ease. Being
so near tumeroks and lugians is still something I find disconcerting.
Thankfully the High Queen tends to put us all at ease when she is about."
Janek, Lugian
Juggernaut tells you, "With the arrival of your High Queen, Elysa, I feel
compelled to remind you that she is to be honored. While she might abide
your snake-like tongues, we Lugians find such disparaging remarks grounds
for violence."
Aun Xalenua
tells you, "Heed well the tales of Elysatah. She, like Hareltah, has slain a
Bride of Wharu. Her words carry the reverence of the greatest aua."
Speak to High Queen Elysa for
information about the Olthoi Invasion. She instructs you to speak to Antius
Blackmoor to find out the location of the queens. In addition, she requests
that delicate organs from the Olthoi be brought to Nuhmudira for research
purposes. (Thanks to Tara Malkav of MT for pic of Nuhmudira below.)

High Queen,
Elysa Strathelar tells you, "I wish that our meeting were under less dire
circumstances. Alas, we are not afforded such an advantage. I thank you for
heeding this call and ask that you listen to the words of my councilors,
Antius and Nuhmudira."
High Queen, Elysa Strathelar tells you, "Nuhmudira has set aside her
differences with Asheron to see that we rid this menace from our land. She
needs our help in collecting very fragile organs from the olthoi that now
plague the direlands."
High Queen, Elysa Strathelar tells you, "The efforts of others have done
well in freeing the remainder of Dereth, I only hope that we can succeed as
well as they."
High Queen, Elysa Strathelar tells you, "Antius has information on the
movements of the olthoi, he has insight into possible locations of the
queens."
High Queen, Elysa Strathelar tells you, "I am preparing plans for an assault
on a hive that we have discovered in the northeastern area of Dereth. But I
cannot bring the breadth of the unified forces of Dereth to bear against
them until we have a weapon to bring the ancient queen down."
Hi Maggie,
So sorry I didn't take a screenshot of Nuhmudira disappearing, but I didn't
think it would happen and when it happened it happened too fast ;-)
Was a bit hectic too with all the people there. I got some screenies of the
first Young Olthoi Queen north of Teth with stats and the tell Nuhmudira
gave me after turning in the Olthoi Gland. I hope that helps you,
Kindest regards,
Aldis Rache - Thistledown
Nuhmudira
tells you, "I have come to assist the High Queen however I may. I have put
aside my distrust of Asheron for the betterment of all and welcome your
assistance as well. My goals are simply to assist in the crafting of a
poison that will rid us of the Queen once and for all."
Nuhmudira tells you, "This olthoi menace must be stopped if we are to live
free and fulfilling lives. To this end I charge you to assist us, in this
hour of need, by hunting and killing the Olthoi Queens that control the
Direlands, and Obsidian Plains. Harvest the glands that produce the acid
that they spit and return them to me."
Nuhmudira tells you, "Be very careful in the collection process. Asheron has
explained that mishandling the glands can corrupt and ruin the specimen.
Bring any specimen that you harvest to me. I will know which ones are
complete when they are delivered. Antius seems to know the location of these
queens. Speak to him and perhaps he will give you some guidance."
Nuhmudira
tells you, "Be safe."
You give Nuhmudira Olthoi
Gland.
"You obviously tried to keep this intact. But look
here." Nuhmidira points to a small slice in the gland. "This puncture caused
the majority of the liquid within to pour out as you jostled it about in
your return to me. It is worthless."
Slimm Jimm of FF
reports: Upon seeing the global I rushed to
candeth, where I got a book of coords. I ran to the 4th set of coords where
I was greeted by a adolescent olthoi queen and her entourage. Upon killing
the queen, it dropped an olthoi gland. Attached is a pic.

Text: Olthoi Queens:
Locations
and Findings
Antius
Blackmoor tells you, "We know that vibrations attract the olthoi.
Preliminary reports about previously dismantled nests indicated a powerful
humming noise emanating from the structure. We believe that the olthoi have
been digging from the north and south for quite some time, having used the
chaos that has been brewing amongst the lugian and tumerok raids, and
heightened presence of Aerbax's virindi, as a cover for their expansion.
This shows a heightened intelligence akin to what they exhibited upon our
first arrival to Auberean."
Antius Blackmoor tells you, "Additionally, I am certain that smell has
something to do with their movements. I've visited the former sites of the
nests and found that each had a peculiar scent about it. Perhaps the potency
of the scent attracts the different Matrons and Queens, who in turn control
the movements and actions of the horde. I cannot fathom the level of
intelligence necessary for organizing so many minds at once, but I am
certain that such intelligence must have a weakness."
Antius Blackmoor tells you, "We have Asheron and Nuhmudira, despite their
differences, working on finding and exploiting that weakness. Nuhmudira is
collecting the glands from the olthoi queens, while Asheron attempts to
duplicate the process that he used for the original poison. There is still
one concern however. We are not as advanced as the Empyrean and so our
attempts at harvesting the glands will likely be clumsy. For that very
reason, I have found the location of five other massive concentrations of
olthoi. We are presuming that these areas are lead by a queen."
Antius Blackmoor tells you, "I have detailed the locations in this book."
Antius Blackmoor gives
you Olthoi Queens: Locations and Findings.
Antius Blackmoor tells
you, "When you find the queens, kill them and harvest the glands. Return
those to Nuhmudira. I will be departing with Elysa at some point to find the
location of the final one or two nests. Good Luck."
Nuhmudira
Returns
Nuhmudira has
returned to Candeth Keep with news of her research.
You give
Nuhmudira Olthoi Gland.
"This appears to be
intact." Nuhmudira turns the gland gently in her hands, "Yes, indeed it is.
Excellent work. You should be commended for your efforts."
Nuhmudira says, "I give you my thanks, XIII. I am sure that this specimen
will prove to be more potent than the last. I will not cease until I have
crafted a successful poison. I will take more time with this specimen. I
shall return within 36 hours."
Nuhmudira has
left Candeth Keep with another specimen, she has pledged to return within 36
hours.
October 2, 2003 -
Thase Skotoso of LC and Mike HeXt II of MT report on the third gland
turn in to Nuhmudira! Pictured below: 1) Mike HeXt II battles a Young Olthoi
Queen for her gland; 2) Nuhmudira portals away as Thase Skotoso of LC turns
in another gland.
Nuhmudira has
returned to Candeth Keep. She requires more assistance before she can
further her studies of the olthoi poison.
Nuhmudira
tells you, "Our second attempt was as much a failure as the first. The
concoction never came together, and during cibation we actually destroyed
one of the new crucibles."
Nuhmudira tells you, "I come to you again with a request to collect the
glands of these queens. Bring them to me when you have found them, and
perhaps we will find a way to yet create this poison."
Nuhmudira tells you, "We must not fail. We will not fail."

You give
Nuhmudira Olthoi Gland.
Nuhmudira tells you, "I see that you have learned of the fragility of these
glands. Your precision cut around the gland has left it entirely intact. I
can only hope that this will prove to be a boon in our process. I thank
you."
Nuhmudira says, "Excellent. This is a much more healthy-looking specimen.
Our processes have been hampered thus far; but as you all become more adept
at harvesting these glands, so we become more adept at altering them. Thank
you Thase Skotoso. I shall return within 48 hours to tell you of how our
efforts have progressed."
Nuhmudira has left
Candeth Keep. The newest specimen that she received appears to be promising,
and she has pledged to return with her findings within 48 hours.
October 4, 2003 - Thalum of WE
reports: Hi Maggie, Another global appeared on WE saying that nuhmidira had
returmed, so I rushed out to the spawn on the Obsidian Plains, killed the
Queen and her matron, and brought the gland back to Candeth Keep.
Thanks also to Thase Skotoso
and Dragon Viper (pictured below) of LC and Koma Kakali, SC!
Nuhmudira has
made her way back to Candeth Keep. Her arrival brings news that the last
specimen was destroyed in the process of cibation.
However, she and Asheron believe that they have deciphered their errors.
Nuhmudira
tells you, "Hello child. I truly desire to speak words of comfort to you of
the effort of the Old Man and I, yet there are none to speak at this time. I
am not disheartened by the lack of cohesion between he and I, but I am
bothered by the utter lack of success thus far."
Nuhmudira tells you, "We have the fortune, or perhaps it is misfortune, that
the olthoi have yet to cease the assault from their queens. I truly hope
that this is still the case. If the queens leave control of the hordes to
lesser olthoi we may lose this opportunity."
Nuhmudira tells you, "Should we fail to acquire a poison that is capable of
exterminating the olthoi, then other measures will need to be taken.
Measures that could lead to the sundering of this land, but I will not see
our home taken by these interloping creatures. I will not see our people
enslaved again. I would rather sink this island into the sea, then fall
under the rule of the olthoi once more."
Nuhmudira tells you, "Be vigilant and that course will not come to pass. We
will stand tall, as we always have. We are too strong a people to be broken
by such a meager race."

You
give Nuhmudira Olthoi Gland.
Nuhmudira tells you, "No slices, no cuts. The liquid
still remains within the fragile bladder. You have brought me the most
complete and unmarred specimen yet. If the weight of this campaign rests
upon this small accomplishment, I am pleased."
Nuhmudira says, "You have brought me the finest
specimen yet, Thalum. The efforts that you and your fellows have put forth
are commendable." Nuhmudira turns to Elysa, "I am certain that this specimen
will yield a potent dose of poison for you. I will return when it is
complete and then we can begin our assaults on the hives."
Nuhmudira has left Candeth Keep with promises of returning within the next
48 hours.
Defeat of the
Level 200 Nest (Restricted to Levels 60+) - New Titles
Thanks to Oldin of HG, Mike HeXt II of MT, Jelly Belly of SC, Graelyn
of MT, Peerless of LC, Thase Skotoso of LC, Ahms Merahk of SC,
Khayla'ida al-Ruz, Eruditus, Wing of LC for details and pics below!
High Queen Elysa Strathelar and
Antius Blackmoor have begun an assault on an olthoi hive. Nuhmudira has
returned to Candeth Keep with a new request for the people. In Candeth Keep,
Nuhmudira has opened a portal to the hive that controls the last vestiges of
the invading olthoi forces. Those who are able, are asked to assist in the
destruction of this nest to drive the remaining olthoi forces from the
surface of Dereth.
Nuhmudira tells you,
"Perseverance has lead us to success. With minimal aid from Asheron, I have
crafted a poison that should be most deadly to the Olthoi. Elysa has been
given the only dose of this poison for safe keeping."
Nuhmudira harrumphs.
Nuhmudira tells you, "The right of nobility. What right is that? She has
taken lead of the unified troops of the Lugian, Tumerok and Isparian
peoples, and has begun an assault upon one of the deeper hives that Antius
has discovered. I am waiting for a report from the sword-scholar now."
Nuhmudira tells you, "When he has furnished me with the location of the
companion hive to the one which Elysa now lays siege, I will open a portal
so that you might destroy the nest that resides within."
Nuhmudira pauses,
searching your face for a moment.
Nuhmudira tells you, "There must be a nest within the hive, else this horde
should have been routed by now. While I wait for Antius to complete his
work, I would appreciate anyone who might collect another gland or two for
me. It will be better to have secured another dose of the poison in case the
Queen does not fall to the first."
Nuhmudira tells you, "I will wait here for you to return. I am sure that the
queens still roam the direlands, where they have already been spotted."
Elysa has
taken a cadre of forces to assault a companion hive to the one that I will
soon open a portal to. Antius has found that there is an old Queen living
within this hive.
She guards a
nest that calls the olthoi to the surface of Dereth; it must be destroyed.
While Elysa deals with the secondary hive, I shall usher all those that are
able to deal with this main hive.
All manner of
beasts, seeing that the olthoi have been defeated, leave their hiding places
and reassert their presence in the direlands.
At the festival grounds in Rithwic, High Queen Elysa Strathelar arrives with
her advisors, wishing to address those that assisted in freeing Dereth from
the invading olthoi forces.
Bowman Z and the defenders of Dereth have destroyed the nest that controlled
the olthoi in the direlands. As the nest is destroyed the olthoi swarm
retreats beneath the surface.
The room begins to shudder; the portal looks to be a safe escape from this
place, as waiting to recall may take too long. Hurry to the portal!

Antius Blackmoor tells
you, "I see that you have faired much better than Elysa. I am beside myself
over what occurred. I was so sure that each hive was nearly the same as the
other. I could--I'm sorry."
Antius Blackmoor tells you, "I believe that Nuhmudira might know more than
she is letting on. I heard some of the statements that she made when others
were handing her the glands. I am beginning to wonder how sincere her
statements were. Perhaps the venom that she laced into them was not meant
for the Olthoi Queen. I -- I don't mean to sound as though I see a
conspiracy here, but I know that those hives were not so densely populated."
Antius Blackmoor tells you, "Regardless, you have performed a great service
to Dereth, and your fellows. You should be recognized for you efforts. Speak
to High Queen Elysa, she will see that you are given a fitting honorific."
Nuhmudira tells you, "The poison did not work. I am
not disheartened by this news, we will yet have victory over this dark
reign. The queen will fall. I will see to it personally if I must."
Nuhmudira tells you, "We must remain vigilant and strong. We have another
dose of the poison... perhaps we can find another way to create more without
the need for the lesser queens. I shall begin work on that when I am given
leave to do so."
Nuhmudira tells you, "Perhaps you shall be the one to coat your weapon this
time. Such a victory would give scribes a reason to sing praises of a new
hero, no?"
Nuhmudira smiles.
Nuhmudira tells you, "You have done well, child. This
will all be over soon, worry not. I will see that nothing happens to our
home."
High
Queen, Elysa Strathelar tells you, "We entered the hive expecting that it
was a lesser queen. We knew that it would be a difficult fight no matter
what waited for us beneath the surface. When we arrived, the fungal bloom
nearly overwhelmed us; stinging vapors and painful spores ate their way into
our lungs. We made our way through the mire and pushed downward into the
vast pits of bubbling acid."
High Queen, Elysa Strathelar tells you, "Grubs swam in that putrescence,
feeding off the remnants of less fortunate creatures. The stench of death
and decay nearly overwhelmed our party as we pushed into the first of the
large rooms. There, a throbbing nest issued forth hundreds of warriors, set
upon a singular goal of ridding us from the world."
High Queen, Elysa Strathelar tells you, "Our numbers held, the lugians
provided an impressive bulwark, while the Aun and Royal Guards assailed the
olthoi from afar, and maintained the health of our forward warriors."
High Queen, Elysa Strathelar tells you, "Pressing deeper, we found the
numbers of the Olthoi thinning; ona stood at our rear while Aun Aualuan beat
their drums to ward us against Wharu. We descended for what seemed an
eternity. Corpses of drudges, renegade tumeroks, Gotrok lugians, banderlings
and other creatures were piled in rooms. Fungus grew from their chests, out
of their mouths and through the lifeless sockets of their eyes."
High Queen, Elysa Strathelar tells you, "Gurgling vents and acid pots echoed
through the otherwise soundless halls, threading fear into each footstep
that fell in the quiet darkness. When the attack came it was swift, deadly,
and with such a ferocity that none knew what had truly occurred."
High Queen, Elysa Strathelar tells you, "She came out from the darkness
spilling bile from her horrid jaws and spraying corrosive streams that
-melted- our number. Panic began to set into our forces as humming wings
descended from the high ceilings. Our forces held, stalwart and true. But
when she opened her maw again, showering our number with that corrosive
breath, men melted away to nothing before our eyes."
High Queen, Elysa Strathelar tells you, "Somewhere behind me a scream cut
the elder's drumming short as an ona slammed into my back, knocking me
before the queen. I scrambled through my pack and withdrew the concoction
given to me by Nuhmudira."
High Queen, Elysa Strathelar tells you, "One arrow, as before, doused in
certain death for her kind, and fueled by vengeance for those that she slew
about me. One arrow, fired in rage, fired true into her eye. But there was
no squeal, there was no sign of victory; only the heat of acid as it bore
through my armor and singed my flesh. Guards groped at me and dragged me
away from her swiping claws."
High Queen, Elysa Strathelar tells you, "We breached the surface and
Nuhmudira was waiting for us. I pray that you faired better than we did."
High Queen, Elysa Strathelar tells you, "You have fought and beaten a mighty
foe and are deserved of great praise. I would grant you the honorific
"Warlord of Dereth". Take this token. If you wish to change your title, hand
it back to me."
High Queen, Elysa Strathelar gives you Warlord
