From Taste of Twilight

As it falls the Shadow hisses, "The Thorns shall rip the heart from the dust-town".

You think you hear a voice say, "You can't...stop...change"

As it falls, the Shadow blinks its blood red eyes. You seem to hear a tired voice say "Have you seen my Lord Atlan? What happened after the watchfires went out.. ?"

The dying Shadow shudders and murmurs something in a language you do not recognize. It looks upon its dark, ethereal hands, and its eyes widen in shock. It begins to shriek in horror, and does not stop until, with a gurgle, it falls still.

The Shadow hisses in fury, and in your mind you hear the words "I have touched a power you cannot begin to fathom! Give yourself to it as I once did... you will be mighty among your kind."

A hate filled voice tells you, "The One is almost upon you...the stars begin to fall..."

From Hollow Victory

The Shadow whispers faintly, "The cathedral... Should've... known..."

The Shadow chuckles, "The Spires only need to recover their strength! They shall rise again."

The Shadow clutches your ankle as it dies and says in Aluvian, "Tell... my wife... Jarilyn..."

The Shadow laughs, "Three more! In your greed, you work our ends for us, fools!"

The Shadow says, "The heart has been carved out. The Opener of the Ways shall come..."

The Shadow gasps, "Do not... break... the last..."

From Should the Stars Fall

As the undead falls, its rotting flesh ripples and sloughs away, revealing the ebon form of a Shadow! "Your little victory matters not," it cackles. "We already altered the path so none may follow but our own!"

As the undead falls, its rotting flesh ripples and sloughs away, revealing the ebon form of a Shadow! "Ler Rhan's chosen," it whispers to itself. "They shall keep it on Savao."

As the undead falls, its rotting flesh ripples and sloughs away, revealing the ebon form of a Shadow! "We slew the third deadflesh commander," it cackles. "What was his is ours now!"

As the undead falls, its rotting flesh ripples and sloughs away, revealing the ebon form of a Shadow! "The dusty fool knows naught," it chuckles softly. "They cannot bar the way."

From Now in this Hush

The Shadow laments as it falls, "The vision is betrayed. The outlanders... How? They have not the power! Impossible!

The Shadow wails as it falls, "Where are the glorious black legions? We were to reclaim this world?"

The Shadow wails as it falls, "Our armies splinter... shattered... betrayed by Dule! The darkness shrieks."

Panumbris Shadows

From Darkness Ascendent

A wave of dark malevolence rises up from the dead Panumbris...and then fades away with a sigh.

A shrieking, squealing noise fills your head momentarily, pulsating with hatred, but quickly fades away into silence.

From Taste of Twilight

A shrieking, squealing noise fills your mind, pulsating with hatred. For a moment, you are overwhelmed by the impression of something vast, cold, and black, squirming noisomely.

The Shadow-woman's ember eyes blink once, and she utters a few words in a harsh, croaking language you do not recognize. In your mind, a tired female voice seems to say, "I am free, mother priestess. I come to you anon."

A shrieking, squealing noise fills your mind, pulsating with hatred. For a moment, you seem to see the land from above, crisscrossed with blazing currents of light.

A shrieking, squealing noise fills your mind, pulsating with hatred. For a moment, you seem to see through the very ground... and the lightless heart of the world seems to stir.

From Hollow Victory

A shrieking, squealing noise fills your head momentarily, pulsating with hatred. You see a man fighting in the dark. He is staggering, bleeding. His luminous red sword swings, cleaving a Shadow in twain. But a greater darkness rises and stretches its wings. A small girl, trembling on the ground beside him, shrieks. The man whirls - but a hand coalesces from the night, and stabs into his chest. The girl scrambles away. As the man falls to his knees, the vision fades, leaving an echo of laughter in your mind.

As the panumbris dies, darkness falls upon your vision. But in the blackness there is a light; a single flickering candle, held by a gaunt man, and sheltered from relentless rain by his other hand. The night around him writhes and whispers... but the vision fades.

From The Child of Daralet

As its eyes fade, the Panumbris turns and whispers, "My lord Isin Dule has need of your services human.... seek the Heart of Shadow... The way is not open yet, but soon the Yalain's servants will act..."

The Panumbris shrieks as it dies, "Fool! Are you in league with Dule as well, human? You will suffer a fate as painful as the betrayer's own, pawn!"

The Panumbris shrieks as it dies, "Our lord has returned! The Yalain, the rotted ones, all conspire against him, but none can stand before his might!"

From Now in this Hush

As the Panumbris dies, a vision overwhelms your mind. The great winged form of Bael`Zharon writhes and thrases, wracked by the assults of the humans who invaded his lair. At his last strength, something of Bael`Zharon, smoky and insubstantial, twists and worms its way to the center of the world as he shrieks and crumples. In the darkness, multiple pairs of red eyes glare balefully out at you.

Umbris Shadows

From Darkness Ascendent

You seem to hear unintelligible words as the Umbris falls... only the name of Bael'Zharon is distinguishable

A wave of dark malevolence rises up from the dead Umbris...and then fades away with a sigh.

You seem to hear unintelligible words as the Umbris falls... only the name of Isin Dule is distinguishable.

From Taste of Twilight

A shrieking, squealing noise fills your mind, pulsating with hatred. For a moment, you have a vision of a great manta-winged form, held to the ground by glistening tendrils. The beast's pale lantern-eyes flash, and its luminous tail thrashes as it struggles beneath the cold stars. A black mist rises up, and its flesh ripples and sloughs away, leaving a twisted spine and skull hovering over the ground. Your mind is pierced by an familiar, swirling howl of agony, and the vision shatters.

A shrieking squealing noise fills your mind, pulsating with hatred. you find yourself moving standing in a vast, steaming mire, shadowed by the fronds of enormous ferns. Before you, three women stand in a ring, chanting. There are beads and feathers woven into their dark hair, and all have marble green eyes. The murky water between them heaves and flows upwards, but the vision dissolves before you can see more.

A shrieking, squealing noise fills your mind, pulsating with hatred. Your sight dims and blurs. You find yourself moving among a crowd of gaunt figures, wrapped in tattered robes and trudging through heavy rain. The sky shows no sun, moon, or stars - only an impenetrable, eternal night. The figure at the head of the crowd halts suddenly, and shouts into the darkness. The hallucination fades.

A shrieking, squealing noise fills your mind, pulsating with hatred. For a moment, you are overwhelmed by the impression of corruption and putrescence. It fades quickly, leaving you nauseous and shaken.

You seem to hear unintelligible words as the Umbris falls... only the word "Palacost" is distinguishable.

A shrieking, squealing noise fills your mind, pulsating with hatred. For a moment, you seem to the land from above. There are three areas that seem to lie in shadow... but the vision fades before you can pinpoint them.

From Hollow Victory

A shrieking, squealing noise fills your mind, pulsating with hatred. You stand in a frigid downpour, among a crowd of thin and shivering people. Before you stands a fat, amber-eyed man in sumptuous robes, shielded from the rain by a glittering magical field. He shouts at the crowd, words you cannot comprehend, and thrusts a condemning finger at you again and again. As the vision fades, he gestures in supplication at the cloud-shrouded heavens.

A shrieking, squealing noise fills your mind, pulsating with hatred. You find yourself standing on an unfamiliar shore. It is a blood-red dawn; the sort Viamont mariners say presage storms. A ripping noise rises, growing until it shakes the air around you. Birds cry, starting from the trees in terror. You raise your eyes to the horizon. Just above the green-blue sea, a black speck crosses the sun, trailing a great tongue of flame.

You seem to hear unintelligible words as the Umbris falls... only the word "Daralet" is distinguishable.

From The Child of Daralet

The Umbris shrieks as it falls, "Hark the sky and the land! The Hopeslayer's power waxes in this world, and the machinations of the Yalain, the walking dead, and the faceless ones will come to naught!"

The Umbris shrieks as it falls, "You have failed, human! Even better, your pathetic kind has broken our lord's shackles! The Hopeslayer will establish a reign of blood and terror that will last for thousands of years!"

As it dies, the Umbris turns to you and whispers conspiratorially, "You regret the deeds of your kind, yes? You fear the power of the Hopeslayer? My lord Isin Dule knows of ways to defeat Him... Seek the messengers of the Yalain, for after they appear, you will be able to seek the Heart of Shadow..."

From Now in this Hush

As the Umbris dies, your mind is assaulted by a powerful vision. Bael'Zharon falls backward into darkness, driven away by the combined power of Asheron and the heroes who invaded the Sepulchre of the Hopeslayer. From behind Bael'Zharon comes the sibilance of a thousand voices softly hissing, "All the candles in the world are but a match before It..."

Nexus Shadow Captain

From Thorns of the Hopeslayer

Black Ferah

From Thorns of the Hopeslayer

As the shadow of Black Ferah falls, you hear the cold voice say: "A fine attempt, to have reached me within this twisted pathetic creation. Well done. I see I must reformulate my plans."

Black Ferah laughs as she falls. "I have merely bought some time for Ler Rhan to regroup, my sweet [name]. How much longer can you humans continue? Our forces are infinite, and you fools still know not our true objective!"

From Lonely in the World

As Black Ferah falls, you hear a cold, contemptuous voice declare, "Do with the blood as thy will, outlander. My true form stays close to my master, who you cannot kill!"

As Black Ferah falls, you hear a cold, contemptuous voice declare, "Pathetic wretch, you have but slain a small sending of my true self."

Shadow Sprite

From Visions in the Darkness

The Shadow Sprite hisses at you in hatred as its life seeps away.

Proselytic Shadow

From Waking from the Abyss

Proselytic Shadow tells you, "He who was... brother... betrayed..."

Proselytic Shadow tells you, "Where has the light gone? I cannot see. I was.. betrayed?"

Proselytic Shadow tells you, "The dark one whispers to me now. He beckons me to avoid the light."

Proselytic Shadow tells you, "The darkness, so cold... so painful..."

Proselytic Shadow tells you, "Free... free... help... the light is lost."

Proselytic Shadow tells you, "He who was... brother... betrayed..."

The shadow flinches as the shining bangle approaches his wrist. He attempts to accept the gift, but his skin ripples and warps to avoid the sparkling adornment.
