For a list of portals to cottages, visit the Settlement Portals page. You can also visit the Tourism section for a list of all settlements with purchase item and shortcut!

You hear the clarion call of horns loud in the distance. The music rises and ebbs and then a susurration of voice magically tickles your ear. "Harken, Isparian. The Agents of the Arcanum stand ready. Ancient evil stalks the land in guises long thought dead. We require your assistance to combat these monstrosities. Whether the evil be a missionary, a knight, or an inquistitor, the end should be the same. Swift and sure. They strike in the forests and in the deserts. They strike in the Dires north and south and in the Obsidian Plains. Find them and destroy them."

When housing was originally released, three trophies were dropped by special creatures to use as purchase items: a Crest of the Falatacot Lords, an Energy Crystal and Mummified Piece of Skin. These items are now retired, and housing may be purchased with the items listed below. At this time, no new housing is being released. You may, however, purchase a cottage from another player, or purchase one if a player has not paid their rent and it goes back on the market. To purchase one, you will need the original purchase price. Some players keep one of each trophy item available, in case a home comes on the market.

Housing Changes
During The Gathering Storm event, housing purchasing requirements changed. Previous methods to obtain writs became obsolete and the Agents of Arcanum asked for new items:

Agent of the Arcanum tells you, "Greetings, adventurer. I have been sent here by the Arcanum to provide Writs of Refuge in return for various items needed to prepare for any coming turmoil that threatens the Isparian presence here on Ispar. Nuhmudira is having us focus on four types of items to be used to gain the Writ."
Agent of the Arcanum tells you, "First, we have need of Pyreal Ingots and Quality Pyreal Ingots. Delivery of such items to us will result in a Writ of Refuge for you. Second, there is a fine diamond powder left behind occasionally in the corpses of slain Diamond Golems. Find this rare powder, bring it to us, and we shall reward you."
Agent of the Arcanum tells you, "Finally, and most important, there are strange portal disturbances around some of the Arrival Points in Dereth. We have been trying to pinpoint the nature of these disturbances. We have sent an Envoy to Lytelthorpe to investigate. Any help you give us would be appreciated, and repaid in kind with a Writ."
Agent of the Arcanum tells you, "Once you possess the Writ of Refuge, then you have satisfied the main requirements for acquiring a home. The Covenant Crystals also require money and other minor items, but those items should not be in short supply. Enjoy your homestead!"

Visit the Writ of Refuge quest write-up for more information about Nuhmudira's Token and the trophies agents accept in exchange for Writs. During the Gathering Strom, writs were also made givable.

Text: Writ of Refuge

Mansions also came on the market with the following requirements:

Level 50
Monarch Only
Rank 6

Storage
Currently, storage chests hold 26 individual items and 1 pack, for a total of 50 storage slots. Cottages have 1 chest, Villas have 2 and Mansions have 5. Turbine has stated they will attempt to gradually add more storage space as soon as they are sure things are going smoothly.

**There is a confirmed bug where some people have lost all contents of their storage chests and hooked items. Use extreme caution.
Update: This bug has been fixed.

Recall to House
Type: @house recall (Short delay before portalling. Note: You must be completely at rest to use this command or you will get a message that you are too far to recall.)

Players may also recall to their allegiance Villa or Mansion by typing
@alleg recall or
@manion recall

Purchase Timer Added
During A New Threat a timer was added to the ability to purchase housing. With the exception of apartments, housing can only be purchased every 30 days. For example, if you bought a cottage but want to upgrade to a villa or move to a new settlement, you must wait at least 30 days after buying your first home before you can purchase your new home.

For more housing commands, visit the @commands page.

NOTE: The items below are retired and are no longer accepted by Agents

Crest of the Falatacot Lord
Crests of the Falatacot Lord drop from a level 55 Lich-like Falatacot Missionary. They can be found in the deserts West of Yanshi, East of Qalaba'r, NW of Glendon Woods, between Plateau Village the west coast of Dereth. The Crest currently has a timer on it, as it's easier to obtain than the other trophies.

You give Agent of the Arcanum Crest of the Falatacot Lords.
Agent of the Arcanum tells you, "There Crests of the Falatacot are a mark of an empire that may yet return. Nuhmudira will be glad for the opportunity to study them. Our thanks, fellow Isparian."
Agent of the Arcanum gives you Writ of Refuge.

Energy Crystal
This trophy drops from a Virindi Grand Inquisitor. They can be found on the Obsidian Plains and appear to have a higher drop rate than the other writ trophies. Read the Letters page for more information. (You are currently limited to picking up 10 Energy Cyrstals).

Virindi Grand Inquisitor tells you, "Is that what you call magic, flesh puppet? Your dependence on flesh makes your efforts pathetic!"

You give Agent of the Arcanum Energy Crystal.
Agent of the Arcanum tells you, "A Quiddity Crystal! How strange that something so beautiful can come from creatures so alien and hideous. The Arcanum appreciates your donation, friend, and here is your reward."
Agent of the Arcanum gives you Writ of Refuge.

Mummified Piece of Skin
This trophy drops from a Void Knight, a creature similar to a Shadow Lieutenant, but with 500 health. They've been spotted on the route between Ayan Baqur and the Life Essence, and in the North Dires in general. (Irquk of MT reports he was only able to pick up 6 of these in a 3 day period.)
