Part of the Aerlinthe Quest

After the eruption of the volcano, the explorers were at a loss as to their next step. They scoured the island, seeking any discernible changes. The first thing that was apparent was the population of Hellfires and Plasma Golems in the caldera of Tenkarrdum had increased. Upon deeper exploration of the caldera, the Behemoth of Tenkarrdum was uncovered (88.9N, 42.7E). It was nearly in the very center of the volcano surrounded by an army of Hellfires, Plasma Golems, Magma Golems, Firestorms, Fire Wisps and Embers. A large air vent which spewed mist high into the air was also located.

The Behemoth resembles an oversized Magma Golem and appears to be 100% resistant to War magic. Almost every initial attempt to attack the Behemoth near his spawn point failed. A combination of lag due to the insane amount of monsters in the area, coupled with the serious damage they were able to inflict, made the idea of killing this creature at his spawn point impossible. Since the initial attacks, the particle effects on the Fire Elementals have been reduced, making the lag less of an issue. Now questers are able to single out and destroy the Behemoth relatively quickly if they are well organized.

Tip: When you arrive at your striking point, have your team log out. This makes all the mobs who were trailing you as you entered the caldera break pursuit and return to their spawn point. This helps reduce any unnecessary lag and makes the attack on Behemoth much easier.

The initial idea was to lure it out of the center somehow. Eventually "safe spots" were found. They weren't actually very safe, but they were less dangerous than the rest. If you could lure the Behemoth to one of these spots, and keep it there while killing all the other creatures that might tag along, enough so that you eventually get the Behemoth alone, then you have a chance to kill it. This has remained the favorite tactic to eliminate the beast. When you defeat the Behemoth, an area wide message is broadcast:

The Behemoth roars at the sky, perhaps cursing its opponent [insert name], then explodes into an enormous pile of flaming rubble.

A trophy, the Black Boulder, is the reward found on the Behemoth's corpse. When given to a Stone Collector, you will receive in return a Black Fire Atlan Stone. This stone, when inserted into your Atlan Weapon, will cast Weapon Mastery Other IV, Blood Drinker VI, Swift Killer IV, Cold Protection Other IV, and the Curse Of Black Fire (-50 to your Magic Defense). The difficulty is 180 and your weapon skill must be 250+ to activate the spells. The Black Fire Atlan Stone is no-drop, no-give and cannot be lost on death.
