From the Twilight's Gleaming event.

Three craftsmen appeared one day in the town of Uziz. They spoke of a special gem, more powerful than a scintillating gem, from which they could create a bow, an orb or shield. The gems they speak of are found on Crystals deep within the vestibule dungeons.

For background on geomancy and the menhir rings which act as portals to the Vestibule dungeons, or on the Vestibule dungeons themselves, read the Breaking the Crystal Core and the Zone's The Vestibule Quests.

Gersan the Sureshot tells you, "If you can find a gem more powerful than a mere scintillating gem, I would be interested in it. Give me such a gem and I will use it to craft a magical bow for you. The bow will be so powerful, in fact, that normal ammunition will not work on it. You will have to come to me for arrowheads as well."
Gersan the Sureshot tells you, "I am not a crossbow maker, however, so if you need a crossbow you will have to attach a stock to the bow yourself."

Gervena the Oblique tells you, "I have heard of powerful gems, more powerful than the mediocre gems you bring to those so-called master smiths. If I had such a gem, I could make a powerful spell-casting orb with unique properties."
Gervena the Oblique tells you, "Of course, if you are not a masterful mage, you should speak with on of my younger brothers."

Gerloc the Defender tells you, "Greeting. My siblings and I traveled here seeking gems of great power. I hear that there are some master armorers who craft suits of armor from fused gems. Those are beneath my notice. Bring me something even more powerful than a scintillating gem and I will craft a great and unique shield for you.

Fenmalain Vestibule
The Fenmalain Vestibule is the easiest of the three Vestibule quests and is restricted to levels 10+.

Map: Fenmalain Vestibule

Before you enter, you will need a Fenmalain Key which can be obtained from Shadows or Shadow Children. Each person in your quest party will need their own key (or two, or three, for body recoveries). Shadows  and Shadow Children can be found near Uziz and Arwic. Shadows are also plentiful in Southern Osteth along the Linvak Range.

Note: extra keys may be given to collectors in exchange for 5,000 xp and 3,000 pyreal.

The dungeon is a short run from Baishi at 46.9S, 55.2E. Route to Baishi (from Shortcuts): From Arwic, take the Subway to Mayoi. Run a short distance to A Ruin 62.6S, 81.4E. Once inside, stay to the left until you come to a ramp. Go down the ramp and then turn right. The Baishi portal is straight ahead.

Alternatively, portals to Baish can be found in the Atrium Residential Halls from Qalaba'r (74.1S, 19.2E) or Glenden Wood (29.7N, 27.0E).

Your goal for the first part of the dungeon is to reach the Fenmalain Gate. You'll use your key on the gate to receive a portal gem to the Fenmalain Chamber, the 2nd half the quest.

When you enter the Vestibule, you can take either the left or the right route through the dungeon. The two sides are mirror images of each other, but the left side contains Undead (Zombies & Liches) while the right side has Shadows and Shadow Children. Keep hugging the left wall and you should head down several ramps and pass through several rooms until you come to a hallway filled with Liches and the Fenmalain Gate. If you prefer the Shadows, stay to the right and you will reach the same destination.

Use your Fenmalain Key on the Gate to receive the Fenmalain Portal Gem (no-drop, no-give). Have your group buff up, then have everyone use their gem at the same time.

Fenmalain Chamber
Inside the Fenmalain Chamber you'll be fighting Shadows, Shadow Children and Liches. You'll pass through creepy rooms strew with the bodies of the dead. Instead of fighting in this initial section, many adventurers choose to just run past them! Take the second left, the continue downward (keeping left) fighting through
Zombies and Liches. You'll pass the Fenmalain Shadow General who drops the disgusting Oozing Lump. Further in you'll also find Sahoni Arsanc, a Level 20 Undead General. Sahoni Arsanc drops an Urgently Written Note. Eventually you will reach the room with the Level 126 Fenmalain Crystal.

Map: Fenmalain Chamber

The Crystal casts level II and III spells and is guarded by 4 Fenmalain Satellite Crystals (Level 9 -- similar to Broken Fragments). Prepare for Lightning attacks and drains! Kill the Fenmalain Crystal for your Fenmalain Gem. The Crystals spawn approximate every 5 minutes and there is a one week timer on the gem. The hallways leading out of this main chamber are generally safe to buff and wait for the spawns. After you get your gem, you may want to stay in the dungeon for a while. There are several hallways at the end with about a dozen broken fragments spawning approximately every 8 minutes.

When ready, head to Uziz and give your gem to the craftsperson of your choice. Portals to Uziz are located in the Haven Residential Quarters in Lytelthorpe (0.6N, 51.6E) and Tou-Tou (28.2S, 95.6E).

You give Gervena the Oblique Fenmalain Gem.
Gervena the Oblique tells you, "A rare gem of some power. Here is an orb infused with its essence. Remember, this orb will be difficult if not impossible to replace, so be careful with it!"
Gervena the Oblique gives you Fenmalain Crystal Orb.

You give Gerloc the Defender Fenmalain Gem.
Gerloc the Defender tells you, "Impressive achievement, finding this gem. Allow me to infuse a shield with its essence. Take good care of this shield, as I doubt you will be able to find another such gem."
Gerloc the Defender gives you Fenmalain Crystal Shield.

You give Gersan the Sureshot Fenmalain Gem.
Gersan the Sureshot tells you, "A rare and powerful gem. Here is your bow, infused with the crystal's essence. Remember that this bow can only fire ammunition made from crystal fragments, which I can make for you if you give me crystal shards. I am sure you appreciate how rare the gems are, so take care not to lose your bow!"
Gersan the Sureshot tells you, "If you desire a crossbow, you must attach it to a stock yourself. If you desire an atlatl, give me back the bow and I'll see what I can do."

Gersan the Sureshot gives you Fenmalain Crystal Bow.

To make a Crossbow, you must attach a stock. Bring Barnar the Tinker in Stonehold 68.8N, 21.5W a Wood Golem Heart. He will craft it into a stock for you.

To make an Atlatl (added during A Perfect Paradox), give Gershan your bow. He will give you an Atlatl in exchange!

You give Gersan the Sureshot Fenmalain Crystal Bow.
Gersan the Sureshot tells you, "Well, it's no bow, but I do have this old contraption here. Remember, this can only fire crystal-tipped darts."
Gersan the Sureshot gives you Fenmalain Crystal Atlatl.

The items may not be given, but they may drop on death. You may, however, tinker the items with ivory. During the Should the Stars Fall event, the value was reduced to make them less likely to be lost. Fenmalain Keys were also changed to be givable.

Fenmalain Bows, Crossbows and Atlatls can only be used with Crystal Tipped Arrows, Quarrels and Darts -- pretty to look at, but not too practical!   ;-)  During A Perfect Paradox Crystal ammunition was also updated. Instead of each Crystal Arrowhead making 10 Arrows/Quarrels/Darts, they now make 250!!

Note: to make Crystal Tipped Arrows, Quarrels or Darts, give Crystal Shards to Gersan the Sureshot and he will give you Crystal Arrowheads in return. Use fletching to attach them to Arrowshafts, Quarrelshafts or Atlatl Dart Shafts.

If you haven't gotten too grossed out yet by carrying around your Oozing Lump, take it to Bretself the Translator in Cragstone. He will give you the Shadow Dispatch in return. If you want to have a little fun with it, take it to the other translators first!

Kuyiza bint Zayi the Translator gives you Oozing Lump.
Kuyiza bint Zayi the Translator tells you, "Ew! What IS that?"
Kuyiza bint Zayi the Translator tells you, "Take it to Bretslef in Cragstone. I don't want to touch it!"

Kuyiza bint Zayi the Translator grabs a flask of water and hurriedly scrubs her hands.

You give Fanzen San the Translator Oozing Lump.
Franzen San the Translator tells you, "Revolting! What is this abomination?"
Franzen San the Translator gives you Oozing Lump.
Franzen San the Translator tells you, "No, never mind. I do not wish to know. Take it to Bretslef, in Cragstone."

You give Bretself the Translator Oozing Lump.
Bretself the Translator tells you, "Blech! I swear, the Shadows use these messenger creatures to dissuade us from reading their correspondence. They're too disgusting for most people to read!"
Bretself the Translator gives you Shadow Dispatch.

Text: Shadow Dispatch

Kuyiza bint Zayi of Zaikhal will translate the Urgently Written Note.

You give Kuyiza bint Zayi the Translator Urgently Written Note.
Kuyiza bint Zayi the Translator tells you, "Hm, interesting. Looks like you caught this monster in the middle of writing a report to its superior."
Kuyiza bint Zayi the Translator gives you Urgent Dispatch.
