From the Castling event.

Town Crier tells you, "News, the Exploration Society has lost contact with the researcher they sent to study the Grievvers afflicting Stonehold. Vivaina, the Stonehold Shopkeep, says he left Stonehold two weeks ago, following tracks into the Northwest Woods."

Town Crier tells you, "A Sharpshooter has reported spotting the missing Exploration Society Researcher, Verdentine Magnan. The archer says that Magnan was busy talking to himself on a hill overlooking a valley heavily infested with Grievvers in the Northwest Woods at 75.5N, 20.6W."

Head to... Stonehold (From  Shortcuts - from Arwic take the Subway to Qalaba'r. Take the Azaroth Cottages Settlement portal at 74.8S, 17.8E. You'll exit at 84.1N, 31.1W, a short run from a portal to Stonehold located at 85.8N, 27.6W).

Speak to Verdentine Magnan at, er, 75.5N, 20.6W. (Those Town Criers have certainly become a little less cryptic! ;-)

Verdentine Magnan must have been spending a little too much time on his own, up on the hill overlooking the valley below; he'll talk your ear off! (See sayings below.) He asks you to explore the Grievvers' activities in the east end of the valley.

Verdentine Magnan tells you, "I'm afraid I find the recent Grievver activity in this valley somewhat unsettling. They seem to guard the area against all other creatures. I've never seen Grievvers build a nest, but I think that's just what they are doing. Perhaps the lack of Shadow influence for so long is allowing them to return to a more natural existence. If you think yourself brave enough I would be very grateful to know what they are doing in the far east of the valley."

Map: Grievver Caves

Head to the Grievver Caves at 75.9N, 19.1W (no restrictions, may be tied or summoned). Inside you'll face Scrawed & Virulent Grievvers with a Spinning Grievver at the bottom. The path down is pretty straightforward. Make your first right down the ramp and then the next right at the 4 way intersection. You'll enter a large open room. Either path out (the ones not blocked by impassable webs) will take you to the next level containing a large open room. Again take either passage down to the lowest level. Kill the Spinning Grievver at the bottom for the wad of silk. Return the silk to Verdentine Magnan for further instructions (2 week timer).

You give Verdentine Magnan Silk.
Verdentine takes the Silk and fluffs it in his hands.
Verdentine Magnan tells you, "That's some very nice Silk! Got it from a Grievver you say? Well you shouldn't try and get anymore for at least two weeks. We have to think about conservation don't we?"
Verdentine Magnan gives you Silk.
Verdentine Magnan tells you, "Here you go. Very interesting substance, it's a much finer quality than the webbing I've seen all over the valley. You know, I've heard of two machines able to spin fine materials like this into cloth. I seem to remember they were both found in Castles somewhere... let me check my notes."
Verdentine Magnan tells you, "Yes, here it is!"
Verdentine Magnan tells you, "It says here that there was a Spinning Wheel found in a Castle to the Northeast of Shoushi overrun by skeletons... and here it says that a Loom was recently found in a food cellar at Neydisa Castle. The residents dragged it up to a tower room, but were unable to get it to produce any useable cloth."
Verdentine Magnan tells you, "I think our insect friends have provided you with the materials required. You might try seeing if you can get the devices to work."
Verdentine Magnan tells you, "Good luck in your travels my friend! I am going to continue my studies of these fascinating creatures here. Please, only kill them out of necessity so as not to disturb the fragile ecological balance in this area."

As Verdentine instructs, take the silk to the castle NE of Shoushi at 24.3S, 76.8E. This Castle was updated during the Madness of Men event and now presents a formidable challenge. To reach the Spinning Wheel on the upper floor you must now fight through numerous creatures:
Fleshless Warrior, Sewer Rat, Silver Rat, Skeleton Bone Knight, Skeleton Bone Lord, Skeleton Captain, Skeleton Lord, Skeleton Wraith. In addition, you can find a Runed Chest guarded by Baron Nuvillus (the Baron drops a Crown of Bone).

Give the Spinning Wheel the wad of silk and you'll receive a Spool of Silk in return.

You give Spinning Wheel Silk.
The wheel spins the silk into a fine thread, which winds onto a spool.
Spinning Wheel gives you Spool of Silk.

Next head to Neydissa Castle at 69.6N, 17.6E. Take the road west from Bandit Castle, or take the Highland Manors settlement portal from Glendon Wood at 27.9N, 29.5E exiting at 63.2N, 16.9E, a short run from Neydisa. Give the Loom the Spool of Silk to receive your flag!

You give Loom Spool of Silk.
The loom cranks noisily and weaves the silk thread from the spool into a fine white cloth.
Loom gives you Flag.

If white's not your color, you can dye your flag your favorite hue! (Argenory dye produces a beautiful silver-grey color.)

Beginning with the Repercussions event, Flag Stamps became available! Not only can you dye your flag, but you can also decorate it with any number of designs!

Verdentine Magnan writes something into a book of notes, mutters a bit and continues writing.

Verdentine Magnan tells you, "This I know for a fact. The Grievvers cannot abide the presence of Olthoi. They will fight fiercely against them whenever the two come in contact. This leads me to believe that the Grievvers and Olthoi share some common origin."

Verdentine Magnan tells you, "I believe that the Grievvers have a complex social order. I can often see one deferring to another in combat or during feeding. Yet it doesn't appear to be a purely physical hierarchy since I've seen a smaller Grievver receive deferential treatment. Perhaps they also recognize intelligence or magical ability as dominating traits. It's all very interesting!"

Verdentine Magnan tells you, "I have a theory on how Grievvers perceive the world. They have no evident visual organs, yet they seem to move about quite easily."

Verdentine Magnan tells you, "From what I have learned and deduced I believe Grievvers come from the same world as the Olthoi, but unlike the Olthoi they were bent to the will of the Shadows. This undoubtedly changed them in ways I cannot say. Perhaps they used to have eyes, perhaps not, I think they may use magics now to attain a view of the world. If so, they can probably see things that we cannot. Or it may be that they have a heightened sense of smell that which allows them to move about and find prey."

Verdentine Magnan tells you, "At some point I may try and get a specimen to dissect to learn more, but my work here is currently more important."

Verdentine Magnan tells you, "Grievvers eat whatever they can catch. I see them dragging rabbits, aurochs and other creatures. Yesterday I saw them drag an injured Olthoi to the west of the valley where I expect they have a nest of sorts. Unfortunately many young warriors and mages new to the world also fall prey to the Grievvers out of inexperience."

Verdentine Magnan tells you, "What? A minor setback? Ah, yes the lifestones. You wouldn't think that was any worse than the hundreds of other ways we can die and be reborn anew into this world, but Grievvers prefer to eat their food alive I'm afraid. They try to injure their prey and cocoon it for consumption at their convenience. I... I sometimes hear horrible sounds from down their. Be careful here I beg you."

Verdentine Magnan tells you, "I recently tried to get recognition at the Arcanum for my work on Grievvers. Do you know what they told me?"
Verdentine Magnan tells you, "They said chasing bugs is "just an eccentric hobby" not worthy of funding. Well, I don't need the Queen's backing. I'm sure that my work will bear fruit and prove it's [sic] worth to those skeptics someday."

Verdentine Magnan says, "Remarkable creatures!"

Verdentine Magnan tells you, "I fear that they may detect my camp here on the hill and figure a way up. I'm not much of a fighter I'm afraid."

Verdentine Magnan says, "Fascinating!"

Verdentine Magnan tells you, "Did you see that? A little Grievver! I wonder if it's a different species or just a juvenile."
Verdentine Magnan tells you, "No, I can't have a campfire. It might attract the Grievvers."
Verdentine Magnan tells you, "Small price to pay really."

Verdentine Magnan gazes dreamily into the distance.
Verdentine Magnan tells you, "Imagine having the abilities of a Grievver! You could climb almost any surface. Your strength would be magnified many times that of a normal human. You could spin webs, although that seems rather useless unless you want to catch your lunch... You reactions would be enhanced and you might have senses beyond those we are aware of."
Verdentine Magnan tells you, "I know that sounds silly, but I often daydream about such things."

Verdentine Magnan tells you, "I am very interested in insect trophies and body parts. You can learn much about a creature from its remains. If you have any I would greatly enjoy looking them over. Don't worry I'll return them after I've examined them. I do however have a powerful appetite and cannot make the same assurances about food. Haha!"

Damien Sarin of FF and Rojon of HG sent these reports on the different responses given by Verdentine Magnan when he's handed different items!

"We gave him every olthoi item in the game we could think of except for an unmounted queen head since one wasn't available yet. here is what he said....

Won't take:
Horn Of Vigilance
Olthoi Enslavement painting
Grievver Tibia
Decorative Bronze Statue of a Greivver
Any Cooked Olthoi Egg foods (tried 4 of them)

All 4 pincers get same message from him."

You give Verdentine Magnan A Gardener Pincer.
Verdentine Magnan tells you, "I've heard of these. Apparently they are quite valuable on Marae Lassel. I really need to take a trip to the island to study the Olthoi there. I've even heard rumors of a new Olthoi Queen. There just isn't enough time is there? Oh well, my work here is fascinating too."
Verdentine hands the pincer back to you.
Verdentine Magnan gives you A Gardener Pincer.

Verdentine Magnan tells you, "Very interesting, thank you."

*****

You give Verdentine Magnan Olthoi Carapace.
Verdentine eyes grow extremely wide as he surveys the Olthoi Carapace you hand him.
Verdentine Magnan tells you, "Did you take this from a Queen?"
For a brief moment Verdentine looks extremely dangerously, then the anger leaves his features leaving a look of sad resignation.
Verdentine Magnan tells you, "I wasn't sure if the rumors were true... Now I'll never be able to see her alive, I can only hope that she wasn't the last."
Verdentine Magnan tells you, "You must be quite a skilled hunter to have recovered this whole. I just can't get over this size of this Carapace. Thank you for showing me this."

Verdentine Magnan gives you Olthoi Carapace.

*****

You give Verdentine Magnan Olthoi Cuirass.
Verdentine Magnan gives you Olthoi Cuirass.

Verdentine Magnan tells you, "Here we have one of the most beautiful examples of natural armor. The Olthoi Carapace is perfectly suited to resisting heavy blows and attacks as well as sharp piercing strikes. This cuirass is lighter than most and stronger too, a fine piece of work. Thank you for allowing me to study it, may it protect you always."

*****

You give Verdentine Magnan Olthoi Ichor.
(he pretends to drink it)
Verdentine Magnan tells you, "Haha, just kidding! I know what this stuff is and I very seriously doubt I would like the taste of it. However be forewarned, I wouldn't open this here if I were you. The Grievvers have a fierce dislike of the Olthoi and I'm afraid that the smell of this stuff, if in fact Grievvers can smell, would bring them running in droves."
Verdentine Magnan gives you Olthoi Ichor.

*****

You give Verdentine Magnan Velveteen Olthoi.
Verdentine Magnan tells you, "How Clever! It's really a very good likeness of an Olthoi. What will they think of next?"
(about a minute passes and I figure hes gonna keep it... then he laughed and gave it back...)
Verdentine Magnan tells you, "Oh, right you want your doll back. Here, take it."
Verdentine Magnan gives you Velveteen Olthoi.

*****

(Same with grivver one...)
You give Verdentine Magnan Pack Grievver.
Verdentine Magnan tells you, "Oh! It's not real! Haha, very funny. Of course you wouldn't think it so funny if you had been bitten by one of the little nippers."
Verdentine Magnan tells you, "Oh, this isn't mine to keep? Well, have it back I guess."

Verdentine Magnan gives you Pack Grievver.

*****

(purple one)
You give Verdentine Magnan Olthoi Helm.
Verdentine Magnan tells you, "Ah, my friend the Olthoi Hunter has made you a fine helmet. May it serve you well, at least better than it served its original owner."
Verdentine Magnan tells you, "Haha, it's not often I have company to laugh with."

Verdentine Magnan gives you Olthoi Helm.

*****

You give Verdentine Magnan Vial of Organic Acid.
Verdentine Magnan tells you, "I see you've harvested some of the rare Grievver Acid. Very powerful stuff! By the way, don't open this anywhere around here. If the Grievvers pick up on it they could cause you no end of trouble."
Verdentine Magnan gives you Vial of Organic Acid.

*****

You give Verdentine Magnan Head of the Olthoi Queen.
Verdentine Magnan tells you, "I am... joyed to be able to examine this specimen. You have done a mighty deed for sure. A very nice mounting job as well, looks like Tumerok craftsmanship."
Verdentine Magnan gives you Head of the Olthoi Queen.
Verdentine Magnan writes something into a book of notes, mutters a bit and continues writing.

*****

You give Verdentine Magnan Olthoi Helm.
Verdentine Magnan tells you, "A newer version of my friend's famous helm. Look at that craftsmanship! He uses the Olthoi head's natural strengths and adds to them where the shell is weakest. A beautiful helm. You are very lucky to own one."
Verdentine Magnan gives you Olthoi Helm.

*****

You give Verdentine Magnan Olthoi Claw.
The researcher hefts the claw in his hands.

Verdentine Magnan tells you, "Extremely lightweight, yet amazingly strong and look at the sharp edge here. They can pierce armor with these things as easily as you do with a sword. Speaking of which, you can have this crafted into a sword by my friend who still lives in Newic. His name is... come to think of it, I don't know his name. Huh! Everyone just calls him the Olthoi Hunter."
Verdentine Magnan gives you Olthoi Claw.

*****

You give Verdentine Magnan Olthoi Head.
Verdentine holds the Olthoi Head up reverently peering through the eyeholes.
Verdentine Magnan tells you, "The Olthoi is a marvel of nature. I would love to see the world they can from, their natural environment must be very harsh and demanding to require so much armor."
Verdentine Magnan tells you, "Have you thought of making a helmet out of it? I have a friend who crafts items from Olthoi trophies. He lives in Newic, I'm sure he would be happy to make this into a helm for you. He's known as the Olthoi Hunter."

Verdentine Magnan gives you Olthoi Head.

*****

You give Verdentine Magnan Olthoi Egg.
Verdentine pokes a hole in the egg with his finger. He eyes the contents for a second and then tips the egg to his mouth and drinks it down.
A wave of nausea washes over you.

Verdentine Magnan tells you, "Delicious! And it will keep me going while I'm out here in the field. Thank you."

*****

You give Verdentine Magnan Olthoi Sword.
Verdentine Magnan hefts the weapon in his hand and examines the blades black luster.

Verdentine Magnan tells you, "Its lighter than steel and sharper than most non-magical weapons. It's odd that you can fight Olthoi with their own appendages. You would think it would cause them some confusion as well... Perhaps it just makes them angry. A fine sword!"
Verdentine Magnan gives you Olthoi Sword.
(unfortunately it was a pp purple sword, he gave back a grey one)

Thanks Damien Sarin & Rojon!
