If bobbing for apples is a little too tame for your Halloween holiday tastes, you might prefer to be scared witless by taking a tour through Frest Greelving's Haunted Mansion!

To reach Frest's mansion, take the Osric Cottages settlement portal in Lytelthorpe at 2.2N, 50.4E, exiting at 5.5N, 40.8E. You'll find Frest Greelving at 6.0N, 43.7E, just down the hill from his mansion at 6.4N, 43.9E. When you speak with him, you'll find he's too frightened to venture back into his former home! He seeks help recovering some personal belonging from the haunted mansion on the hill.

Frest Greelving tells you, "Traveller, please! I wonder if I may call on you to help me? An unnamed evil permeates my mansion. I cannot go back in there! There are some objects of sentimental value I wish to have retrieved from my house. I will reward you if you do."
Frest Greelving gives you Journal of Frest Greelving.
Frest Greelving tells you, "I shall give you a copy of my journal in which I have recorded the growing horror within that house. It also lists the items I would appreciate you retrieving for me. Also, if you should discover any clues of what is causing this horror, please bring them to me."

The Journal of Frest Greelving mentions the three items to be retrieved: an Emerald, an Antique Platter and his favorite Puffy Shirt! In addition, you'll also retrieve a note off a Zombie.

Frest Greelving's Emerald is found in a chest on the main floor of the mansion. Make sure you take a few minutes to explore. Apparitions roam the halls and strange things are afoot! When you come upon the picture of the scribe, you'll discover that Frest Greelving wasn't imagining the horrific face jumping out at him! Eeek!

The puffy shirt can be found in a chest in Frest Greelving's bedroom. It's the room above the Ursuin Rugs Alive with the burning canopy bed (insert your own joke here! ;-).

The final item, the Antique Platter, is in a chest in the tower. It's guarded by a level 55 Zombie. Kill the Zombie for the Old Chronicle. When you have all your items, return them to Frest for a reward and further instructions.

You give Frest Greelving Frest Greelving's Emerald.
Frest Greelving tells you, "Thank you, you retrieved my precious emerald! Here is your reward."
You've earned 3000 experience.

Frest Greelving gives you 3,000 Pyreals.

You give Frest Greelving An Old Chronicle.
Frest Greelving tells you, "Ah, you found something. An ancient document... Perhaps it may explain this haunting."
Frest Greelving tells you, "Hmm, I believe the document is written in Yalaini. If you take it to Bretself the Translator who resides in Cragstone, he should be able to translate it for you. Please bring it back to me when it is translated."

Frest Greelving gives you An Old Chronicle.

Bretself the Translator can be found at 26.0N, 47.0E in Cragstone. He'll translate the Old Chronicle into Chronicle of Archeological Site Celadon. Return with the Chronicle to Frest and he'll charge you with another task -- eliminating the terror beneath the mansion. The Portal Chamber Key he gives you now allows you to enter the mansion dungeon.

Frest Greelving tells you, "Are you too scared to continue? If so, I would not fault you."
You give Frest Greelving Chronicle of Archeological Site Celadon.
Frest Greelving tells you, "The translated version. So, it truly was written in Yalaini!"
Frest Greelving tells you, "Have you read this already? This chronicle of terror chills my soul."
Frest Greelving shudders
Frest Greelving tells you, "Alas, it appears my gripe is with the Arcanum builders who constructed the mansion here. This ground is cursed and perhaps should not be inhabited. Yet, perhaps you may be able to do something to stop the horror that grips this place. I understand now that it comes from beneath the mansion. There is... something... down there. If you can eliminate this terror I would reward you."
Frest Greelving tells you, "I now give you permission to enter my mansion dungeon. Here is the key to the chamber where the portal is, you already know why I secured it. Take good care."

Frest Greelving gives you Chronicle of Archeological Site Celadon.
Frest Greelving gives you Portal Chamber Key.

Map: Frest Greelving's Dungeon

Once in the dungeon, find the hole in the wall in the upper-right corner and head down (see map). You'll be fighting Skeleton Warriors, Captains, and Wraiths and Undead, including Zombies and Liches. At the floating Big Skull, head right, and bear left at the fork in the icy cavern area. When you get to the three way intersection in this lower level, turn right heading east. You're looking for the Zombie which spawns under a swirling vortex. Kill it and loot the Staff of Nullification from its corpse.

Head back up to the previous level find the fork again. Take the other path (heading south) and you'll see a large room with the Dark Sarcophagus (Level 666). Oooh... scary!

You feel something without voice scream in your mind in utter rage. It chills you to the bone as it fades away.

Use the Staff of Nullification to strike the Sarcophagus. You'll most likely be hitting for 0 damage. To be flagged, you need to strike a critical hit.  You'll receive a message when you're successful. The sarcophagus is protected by more undead, but it will not fight back.

Note: Elder Merlin of LC reports that it's not necessary to use the Staff of Nullifcation to complete the quest. He used a regular staff, made a critical hit and received the reward.

Critical hit! You singe Dark Sarcophagus of 0 points of fire damage!

Once you've been flagged, return to Frest for your reward: an Evil Couch!

Frest Greelving tells you, "So, you were able to subdue the entity instigating the horrible occurrences in my house? I am delighted! I expect any spectral beings left haunting the mansion should leave soon and allow me to dwell there in peace."

Frest Greelving tells you, "Alas, I am low on cash at this time but I do have a fine piece of furniture I could give you. It just may remind you that there are are forces in the world, unknown, unknowable, unnameable!"

Frest Greelving gives you Evil Couch.
You've earned 8000 experience.

Finally... something to sit on that's not made of stone! Now really, how evil could that be?! ;-)
