This imposing staff for War Mages was updated during
The
Iron Coast event. Not only was the race restriction was removed, but and
the spell was changed as well. You'll love seeing it in action!
To begin, speak to Dizah ibn
Nadqab at the Four Towers outside of Zaikhal. The Four Towers Entrace portal
is at 12.4N, 2.3E. The portal to the Impious Temple is behind a locked door
within the courtyard at 12.2N, 2.4E, Dizah requires a L Trade Note to open
the door.
Dizah ibn Nadqab tells you, "While excavating this site, I inadvertently
awakened the undead that rest here. I was able to escape the dungeon with my
life, but before doing so I found a large audience chamber with treasure."
Dizah ibn Nadqab tells you, "Offer me any trade note worth 5000 pyreals and
I'll give you access to the dungeon. In return, you can keep anything you
find in there. I can use the trade note to further my investigation in this
site."
Dizah ibn Nadqab tells you, "From what I was able to uncover so far, I
believe this area was once a place used by powerful Gharu'ndim War Mages.
Any relics you find may be difficult or impossible for you to use. Perhaps,
if you are skilled in Gharu'ndim War Magic you may be able to understand
what I could not. You can't go down there if you're not level 20, in fact I
wouldn't go down there if I were you. Just forget the whole thing, you're
better off that way."
You give Dizah ibn Nadqab Trade Note.
Dizah ibn Nadqab tells you, "I take this with
gratitude. I'll open the door for you, but be warned, this is a risky
venture. If you should fail, you will return to this place outside of the
sealed tower...And I give no refunds."
Dizah ibn Nadqab says, "Oh, if you find something of interest I might be
able to identify it for you."
Dizah ibn Nadqab says, "You should hurry. I'll close the door for you in a
minute."
The Impious Temple is
restricted to levels 20+. Once inside, you'll first need to find four keys,
then solve some levers to reach the altar area where an Undead High Priest
carries the Broken Staff.

Impious Temple
The Keys
1. The main floor of the temple has
four quadrants, one for each key. The Superna Key is located in the
northeast room. From the entrance, go straight through the intersection and
down the ramp. Ignore the first ramp on the right and keep heading down the
hallway. When you reach the open room, take the passage on the south wall
and head east. From there just follow the corridor up and around a few sets
of stairs, fighting the
Skeletons and
Skeleton Warriors until the final room. The Superna Key is on the corpse of
a Skeleton Warrior.
2. If you have portal
recall, use it to return to the entrance. Your second key, the Infernus Key,
is found in the southeast room. Simply hug the right wall all the way up to
the final room. The key is on a
Skeleton Warrior.
3. The
Occasus
Key is in the southwest room, opposite the previous key. From the
entrance, hug the left wall this time, all the way up to the final room. the
Key is on a
Skeleton Captain.
4. The final Mortus Key is
to the northwest. From the entrance take the 2nd passage north. Again pass
by the first corridor and head north. When you take the south doorway from
the open room, you'll turn right heading east. Follow the staircases to the
final room where a
Skeleton Warrior holds the key.
Before you head to the
lever section you may want to explore the lower level. Take the first ramps
you passed by for the first and fourth key to reach the lower level. Dizah's
Journal spawns on the ground, guarded by
Undead.

Nadqab's Journal
The Levers
To reach the lever section, you'll
need to find the section of grate that has an opening. The ramp you're
looking for is in the NW section. Head as if you're getting the key; however
when you reach the pillared doorway on the south wall of the room, turn left
and head up the ramp instead. Look for the opening, then enter the large
open room with the barrels in the corners.
This part requires some
coordination and speed. First look for the door on the SE wall. On the other
side are three small rooms, 2 with levers. Pull both levers (L1 and L2),
then run back to the NW corner of the barrel room. The door will now be open
(D1). Three more room are on the wall to the north. One has a surface portal
and the other 2 have levers. Pull both levers (L3 and L4). Head north then
turn left at the dead end. The locked door on your left is opened by the
Superna Key (resist 999). Another door behind it (D3) should now be open.
Pull the lever (L5) then quickly head back to the hallway. Immediately to
the west, repeat the process. Use the Inferus Key on the locked door, pull
the lever behind the door (L6) and head back to the hallway. The two doors
(D5 and D6) on the SW hallway should now be open.
Broken Staff
Follow the corridor to a large open room. Several Undead Priests (Level
55) bar your way.
Undead Priest says, "Your
kind has disturbed us for the last time!"
Undead High Priest tells
you, "Insignificant mortal! Your life will soon come to an end!"
Ha! That's what he
thinks!! The Undead High Priest (Level 23) awaits by the altar at the top of
the stairs. Kill it to obtain the Broken Staff. There is no timer on picking
up a Broken Staff. It may also be given. The High Priest spawns every few
minutes.
Return to Dizah and hand
him the Broken Staff for further instructions.
You give Dizah ibn
Nadqab Broken Staff.
Dizah ibn Nadqab tells you, "This is clearly broken.
There is one person I know who might have the knowledge and skill to repair
this. He lives in the Mite Maze dungeon north of Arwic, located at 41.1N x
57.2E. Sorry I can't be more help."
Dizah ibn Nadqab gives you Broken Staff.
Harlune the Misanthrope
The person you're looking for is Harlune the Misanthrope, and Empyrean Mage.
For a little background on Harlune, you can purchase
The
Reclusive Mage rumor from Laquisha the Scribe in Arwic.
To reach the Mite Maze
(41.1N, 57.3E, restricted to levels 8+) take the Mountain Pass portal in
Arwic at 35.0N, 56.0E. The shortcut will drop you at 41.0N, 56.0E, just a
few clicks away!
Map:
Mite Maze
If you've never been to
the Mite Maze before, bring your earplugs! It's full of... well,
mites! Diggers,
Sentries, Scamps. To reach Harlune, hug the left wall from the entrance.
Keep to the left until you see the first ramp up. Pass it by and keep left
until you reach a large open room. When you exit the room to the east you'll
be making one more left at the split, then all rights until you find the
ramp up. Pick open the door (resistance 162), and Harlune is down the
corridor to the left of his pet Reedshark, Alfrega.
Hand Harlune the Broken
Staff and you'll receive a Smelting Pot in return, along with instructions
to find some ore in the Colier Mines for its repair.
Harlune the Misanthrope
tells you, "Alfrega, Alfrega girl! Fresh meat!"
You give Harlune the Misanthrope Broken Staff.
Harlune the Misanthrope tells you, "Sure, come to the
Empyrean to have him fix your problems. I'm a mage, not a tinker!"
Harlune the Misanthrope tells you, "Eh well it is in pretty bad shape. I
MIGHT be able to fix it, but I'm going to need some iron."
Harlune the Misanthrope tells you, "Make yourself useful, take this and go
to the Collier mines."
Harlune the Misanthrope gives you Smelting Pot.
Harlune the Misanthrope tells you, "You should be able
to find some ore lying around in a wheelbarrow there. Smelt it down and
bring it back to me."
Harlune the Misanthrope tells you, "That should be enough to fix this piece
of cr..."
Harlune the Misanthrope clears his throat
Harlune the Misanthrope tells you, "...er, treasured
relic and give me some peace and quiet. Now, off with you."
Note: If you try to hand
Harlune a 2nd Broken Staff, he refuses to fix it (once per character).
However, you may use a mule to get the smelting pot.
Harlune the Misanthrope tells you, "I'm not going to
fix another of these for you!
If you continue to speak
to Harlune, he will eventually hand you a
Crabbed
Note which begins the
Water of
Mt. Lethe quest.
The Ore
To reach the ghost town of Colier take the Colier View Hill Settlement
Portal from Cragstone at 26.2N, 46.3E. You'll exit at 59.3N, 40.9E. Be
careful! Dangerous creatures roam the surrounding area. Before heading into
the Mine you'll need 2 keys. A Small Rusty Key is found on a
Banderling Raider
inside the doorways of one of the building at 56.7N, 39.6E. The second key,
a Cell Key is found on the corpse of a
Drudge Prowler in
the building located at 56.5N, 38.0E. (See
Baron's
Amulet write-up.)
Map:
Colier Mine
The Mine entrance is in
the basement of one of the buildings in town. You'll be fighting low level
Banderlings,
Drudges and
Undead. Once
through the portal (no level restrictions) you'll see a locked door
(Resistance 400). Use the Small Rusted Key to
open it. You'll need to get another key off an
Undead Miner
before you can reach the ore area. From the entrance you'll turn
right-left-right-left. Open the door, then use your Cell Key. You'll be at
a split with a ramp going up to your left, and a ramp going down to your
right. Turn left and at the top of the stairs go east. Use the Cell Key
again and follow the passage south until you see the Undead Miner. It
carries the Scratched Key and the Baron's Key.
Head
back to the intersection right past the first locked door where you took
the ramp up to the left. This time take the ramp down to the right. Go
straight at the four way intersection, then just follow the passage to the
locked door. Use the Baron's Key to open it and head down the ramp. At the
bottom, keep to the right and you'll come to the room with a wheelbarrow.
Double click on it to retrieve your Iron Ore (1 hour timer).
Iron ore is no
longer available in the Arwic Mines.
Impious
Staff
Once you have the
ore, you'll need an Alchemist to combine it with the Smelting Pot to
create the Slag. Previously, this step required a skill check. If you
failed, the pot disappeared. Recent reports indicate that anyone with
Alchemy trained can complete this step.
"You
smelt the ore into an ugly, shapeless piece of slag. In the process, the
smelting pot was destroyed."
Take the slag
back to the Mite Maze and give it to Harlune the
Misanthrope. In return, he'll give you the
Impious Staff!
You give Harlune the
Misanthrope Slag.
Harlune the Misanthrope tells you, "Found the iron
eh? Well, give me a minute."
Harlune the Misanthrope's eyes glow briefly for a
moment
Harlune the Misanthrope gives you Impious Staff.
Harlune the Misanthrope tells you, "There it's
fixed, now don't let the door hit you on the way out. And don't come
back!"
The Impious Staff cannot
be given. IYou must have a War Magic skill of 270+ to activate its spell.
The look of the staff wasn't the only thing to get an update. The Priest's
Curse spell shoots a flaming skull from the staff!
If you want to update your old staff with the new look, Harlune's not
exactly cooperative!
You give Harlune the Misanthrope Impious Staff.
Harlune the Misanthrope tells you, "What, it isn't
flashy enough for you? Too bad!"
Harlune the Misanthrope gives you Impious Staff.
