Alaine the Apprentice tells you, "Hello! If you are willing, we have a task for you."
Alaine the Apprentice tells you, "The Arcanum lost some important research when Martine raided our Research Facility near Al-Jalima. Martine seems to be gone now, but his minions remain, preventing us from retrieving the decanters we need."
Alaine the Apprentice tells you, "If you can go there and find the decanters, then you can journey to the Fathomless Chasm, a wellspring of pure mana, and use the decanters to collect the essence there. This essence is required to forge the new pyreal weapons, which we are calling Isparian."
Alaine the Apprentice tells you, "Here -- I have literature that explains all this."

Alaine the Apprentice gives you Isparian Arms.
Alaine the Apprentice gives you Treatise on Essence.

Alaine the Apprentice tells you, "The locations of the Research Facility and the Fathomless Chasm are written on the flyleaves."

Stats: Isparian Weapons Stats

During the Hidden Vein event Town Criers spoke of a new Consortium outside of Xarabydun where Dereth's great minds collaborate on ways to make life easier. Speak to Ciandra the Alchemist at 41.8S, 15.8E who will tell you about new weapons.

To get to Xarabydun, take the Monument Sands settlement portal from Al-Arqas (33.6S, 132.E). It will drop you at 37.9S, 16.0E. From there it's a short run to the Consortium. You may want to tie to the portal before going through as you will be returning to Ciandra shortly.

Ciandra, Arcanum Alchemist yawns.
Ciandra, Arcanum Alchemist tells you, "Hello traveler, we are pleased that you have found us out here in the desert. It has been a difficult task building up this place with all of the suspicion that has recently been cast upon the Arcanum in the wake of Nuhmudira's disappearance. Rest assured however, that though her methods may have been suspect, her intentions were pure. I know that this may be difficult to fathom."
Ciandra, Arcanum Alchemist tells you, "I am sorry, I have not been sleeping well as of late. You see, we have been working day and night to see the work that was begun by Nuhmudira is completed. We redoubled our efforts once she disappeared but were still missing a pivotal link in our preparations until the most unlikely ally appeared to us."
Ciandra's voice falls to a whisper.
Ciandra smiles warmly.
Ciandra, Arcanum Alchemist tells you, "Please keep this as quiet as you can. Asheron, came to us. He said that he wanted to help, that he was worried about Nuhmudira and he...well he gave us some very important and revolutionary guidance. Since that time we have been making great strides forward in our research. So much so that we think that soon - No I should not overspeak myself."
Ciandra giggles with glee, and slowly regains her composure.
Ciandra, Arcanum Alchemist tells you, "Some still cower in fear of him, but without Nuhmudira we were falling behind, and no matter how great our efforts we still could not decipher the secrets that were in our way. But with his assistance we have overcome the greatest obstacle that stood before us in the enhancement of the weapons crafted from Pyreal."
Ciandra, Arcanum Alchemist tells you, "We've been hard at work on the pieces that he asked us to craft for him. We await word from one of his emissaries to know that we can set people out on the task of collecting the final pieces that he is helping us procure. But he has been silent for one full cycle of the moons now. We have begun to worry."

Ciandra looks you up and down, and finally shakes her head as a smile spreads across her face.
Ciandra, Arcanum Alchemist tells you, "You look like someone that I can trust. Please seek out Asheron's Emissary, it should be found near Eastham. Speak to it and return to me and tell me what information it imparted to you."

As Ciandra instructs, head to Eastham and speak to the Emissary of Asheron, It can be found at 17.N, 64.3E near a windmill and a lifestone. You may want to tie to the lifestone because you will be returning to the Emissary shortly.

Emissary of Asheron tells you, "I have been forewarned of your coming and will impart to you the important aspects of what must be done to better enhance your weaponry. Please, listen carefully. I will only impart this knowledge to you but once, as is Asheron's will."
Emissary of Asheron tells you, "The power of this worlds magic is strongest here on Dereth it is why his people chose this place as a refuge and place of learning. Lord Asheron has found a font of pure mana, the essence of all magic beneath this land. He has begun excavation of a tunnel that will lead you there so that you may collect this essence and find an application with what your Arcanum teaches."
Emissary of Asheron tells you, "You must take care however to not expose yourself to the mana. You will need a device by which to contain the essence, else it twist your form into something that cannot be saved. Your Arcanum has been working on such a device. Return to Ciandra and ask her for something to harness the essence within. Then you should be ready to embark into the earth to obtain the essence."

When you return to Ciandra again, she instructs you to go to the Arcanum Storage Facilities just outside of Al-Jalima.

Ciandra, Arcanum Alchemist tells you, "We were afraid that this might be the case."
Ciandra turns away for a second, then looks back at you.
Ciandra mutters something under breath and scowls. She regains her composure.
Ciandra, Arcanum Alchemist tells you, "In the past few months I am sure you are aware that Martine has been harrying our people with assaults that have finally spread to the mainland. His latest assault was done solely against the Arcanum. Somehow he divined the location of our research facilities not far outside of Al-Jalima."
Ciandra sighs.
Ciandra, Arcanum Alchemist tells you, "Sorry...we lost some very important research there. Not to mention that we, as researchers, are not strong enough to re-enter that place. Oh yes, some of his previous incursions were much smaller in scope but this was a calculated strike. It occurred shortly after Asheron's visit to us. He brought those horrible hollow Olthoi with him, and many other foes."
Ciandra, Arcanum Alchemist tells you, "I will understand if you no longer want to aid us in this endeavour hero, I too am terrified of what Martine is capable of. But if you choose to go, you should collect as many decanters as you can from within. You look as though you could carry...ten. Yes, ten should be more than enough for you. We should leave some for anyone else that wants to help us don't you think? Collect ten and return to me and I will tell you where you should be focusing next. Be careful though. You must do this within the next three cycle of days, or start over."

Arcanum Research Facility

The Arcanum Research Facility is located at 5.8N, 6.3E near Al-Jalima. You may not enter the portal unless you have done the previous steps. Inside you'll encounter Martinate Simulacrum (level 40) and Martinate Simulacrum Magicians (level 44). The Magicians cast level V Vulns and Drain Health IV. Take the door closest to you on the right when you enter, and follow the right wall through a few doors to the final room (3 Simulacrum and 2 Magicians). Collect 10 of the Enchanted Decanters that are lying on the ground. They appear pink in color. Decanters are no drop/no give and do not stack.

After you have 10 Decanters, return to the Emissary of Asheron. When you speak to him, he will give you a text.

Emissary of Asheron tells you, "Yes, Martine has proven to be a formidable foe, when in truth Lord Asheron only wishes to aid him. But there is little that can be done to help him now. Though my Lord has not lost all hope for his redemption."
The being looks you over, and you feel a warm glow surround you briefly.
Emissary of Asheron tells you, "I see that you have collected ten decanters. You have performed most admirable in the face of danger you are a true asset to your Queen. Please, take this."
Emissary of Asheron gives you Treatise on Essence.
Emissary of Asheron tells you, "The information within is too large for me to explain to you. It is better that you are given a hard bound copy so that you may refer to it at later times if the need should arise. Know this, the place that Asheron has opened should be free of danger, though it is not easy to navigate. Yet, if Martine, has found this place it is possible that there will be enemies within. There are forces at work that even Asheron has yet to find."

Essence Font - Filling the Decanters

Next head to the Fathomless Chasm at 36.9S, 63.4E (restricted to levels 20+) to fill your decanters. A quick route is to take the Shou-Zin settlement portal in Shoushi (31.3S, 72.6E). You'll exit at 36.7S, 68.5E. The dungeon is separated into 5 different areas, each level restricted:

Map: Fathomless Chasm Entry

Fathomless Chasm Devex 20-39
Fathomless Chasm Clough 40-49
Fathomless Chasm Plummet 50-59
Fathomless Chasm Descent 60-79
Fathomless Chasm Abyss Levels 80+

Each section has an Essence Font at the bottom where you will fill your decanters. The fonts are guarded by a Boss Golem in each section.

Fathomless Chasm Devex 20-29
--Thanks to Lone Bow of FF for details.

Map: Fathomless Chasm Devex

When you enter the portal, you'll take about 30 or so points of damage on a drop. At the bottom is a safe room. This level consist of Ice Golems, Glacial Golems, and Frosts. Make a right out of the initial room. Follow this to the first hard Left which will lead you down to another room. Go either way out of this room and you'll come to a jump. This jump takes you to the room before the mana wall. After the jump you'll encounter be 2 Frosts, 2 Glacial Golems, and a Shivver. Finally, you'll come to a whole army of Frosts and the boss Golem. The exit is out the middle passage (not the hard left). You'll curve around and around until you reach a surface portal. There are 2 Frosts guarding the exit. Recommend: Magic Resistance, Cold and Bludgeon protects.

Fathomless Chasm Clough 30-39
--Thanks to waferness of LC and Pcmorris of MT for details.

When you enter the portal, you'll take some damage on a fall. Two Fire Elementals await you. You'll come to another jump. At the junction you have the choice of jumping again to the left, or taking a surface portal on the right. Again you'll take damage on the jump. At the bottom you'll find 4 Fire Elementals and about a dozen Magma Golems. Run north, past more Magma Golems, and keep heading down. You'll pass even more Fire Elementals. The Essence Font is in the last room and is guarded by a Magma Golem Exarch. Recommend: Bludgeon, Armor and Fire protects.

Fathomless Chasm Plummet 40-49
--Thanks to Shalone Bloodtide and dsteeldemon of SC for details.

When you enter the portal, you'll take about 40 pts of damage on the fall. Waiting for you are 2 Caustics (Acid Elementals) and an Obsidian Golem. Run past them down the hall, then take your first right. Go through the large room and follow the wall to a ledge. When you jump from the ledge, you'll encounter 4 more Caustics and 2 Obsidian Golems. Once again, exit the room, and take the first right. Follow the curve of the hall and take the first left you see (you'll begin to hear a humming). When you come to the 3rd and final ledge, be prepared before you jump. The room below is filled with about 20-30 Caustics, 2 Obsidians and a Coral Golem Viceroy. The mana stream, a giant blue pillar of energy, is behind the Viceroy. When you kill the Viceroy, all the elementals will die with it. Recommend: Acid, Bludgeon and Armor protects.

Fathomless Chasm Descent 50-70
--Thanks to Lynchet of DT, Shukar Jhusen of TD, Veto of WE and the Southern Cross of DT for details.

Like the lower level sections, you'll take damage on entry from a fall. Ahead of you'll see a doorway. Don't take it, but instead take the doorway to the right. Follow the wall to the left. (This route is longer than necessary, but it's easier to follow and remember.) Before reaching the Essence Font at the bottom, you'll have to take 2 more jumps. The dungeon is filled with Electric Elementals of all types. The boss Golem at the bottom is a level 885 Diamond Golem Suzerian. One tactic is to hit him with Magic Yield / Bafflement / Feeblemind from above and then drain. He can then be Imperiled and Vulned for the attack. Once the boss golem is dead, the elementals will die also. Recommend: Armor, Lightning protects.

Fathomless Chasm Abyss Levels 70+ -- Thanks to Gary V. for details.

Map: Fathomless Chasm Abyss

From the entrance head down the west hallway sticking to the right until you find the abyss portal. After the initial drop, head east, sticking to the right. Take your first jump then head east. Follow the hallway until you come to a split. To the right is a surface portal. To the left is a hallway. Take the hallway passage until you come to your 2nd jump. Continue to your third jump which takes you to the final room. The surface portal is in the SE corner. The Mana pool is directly to the south. The font is guarded by a Crystal Golem Imperator. Recommend: Banes and protects for all elementals, bludgeon and impen.

You may get the message that "Not all the ingredients are present." That means there are too many people trying to fill their decanters at the same time. Just try again until you have collected your mana. Once the Decanters are full, they may be stacked and dropped.

Diamond Infused Ingots

Add Diamond Powder (dropped from Diamond Golems found in the Direlands, Chalimere, Aerlinthe and elsewhere) to the Decanter of Essence for Diamond Oil. Skill check approx: 425-450. Thin Oil is a failure. Thick Oil is a success.

You skillfully add the diamond powder to the essence. Swirling the mixture causes it to become thick.

Use the oil on Pyreal Ingots to make Diamond Infused Ingots. (See the Atlan Weapons quest for details on how to make a Pyreal Ingot.) The Alchemy skill check for the highest quality Ingot is very high. Thick Diamond Oil to the HQ Ingot - 425

A success with Thick Oil will give you a Perfect Ingot. Failure will yield a Superb Ingot. Thin oil success gives a Good Ingot and failure, a Quality Ingot.

[Research on the various skill checks is still on-going. If you have any information to add, please send me an email!]

You apply the diamond oil to the ingot, making a perfect diamond infused ingot.

Head to the Crater (see Shortcuts) and purchase one of the New Glyphs from Silencia. Use the glyph on your ingot then give to Silencia's Magma Golem for your weapon. Buff up first! The Melee skill check is rumored to be 400+ and the Ranged weapons are 350+. The Wand relies on Mana Conversion skill check of 375. Each type of Ingot has a different skill check when you stamp it. For example, the 375 Mana Conversion skill check is for a "Good Ingot", while for a perfect ingot, the check is only 275.

It is possible to get a Perfect Weapon, even without a Perfect Ingot. See the notes from the State of the Code below for more details.

Finished Weapons may not be dropped or given away, and they may not be buffed (a bug is allowing Bows & Crossbows to be buffed until the June '02 patch). The Town Criers give hints to their special properties: they are very effective against elementals.

Town Crier tells you, "Have you seen those new crystalline weapons? My cousin had one. He said that he didn't care for it too much when fighting without an elemental stone."

Town Crier tells you, "My cousin said that the new weapons made from pyreal were nothing spectacular. But then he put a fire stone in his sword and waded in amongst some Shivvers.  Scary, scary stuff.  No ordinary fire sword could have caused that carnage."

View the Isparian Weapons stats page for a list of the weapons and the additional spells given by Atlan Stones. (Black Fire and Shadow Stones may not be added.)

To get the text Isparian Arms, return to Ciandra after filling your decanters. She'll ask you to hand her a full one to verify you have completed the quest and will tell you about the 3 week timer on the quest.

Ciandra, Arcanum Alchemist tells you, "I see that you have succeeded in finding the essences and have more than likely crafted yourself the new weapons of Isparian make. Thanks to Asheron and Nuhmudira for their efforts. Unfortunately I cannot allow you passage into the research facility yet. Please wait until you three weeks transpire before you collect your next set of decanters."

Isparian Weapons Modifying Tool

The Modifying Tool is used to remove Altan Stones from the Isparian Weapons.

Combine a Decanter of Essence with Medium Ground Chorizite (see the Potions page) to get Nullification Oil  -- skill check 350.

You skillfully add the chorizite powder to the essence. The mixture bubbles briefly, and settles into a deep purple hue.

Add the Nullification Oil to a Diamond Heart for a Treated Diamond Heart -- skill check 150.

Use an Intricate Carving Tool (see Lockpicks) on the Treated Diamond Heart to make the Modifying Tool -- Lockpick skill check 275.

The final tool may be dropped or given away (corrected in the hot fix). The Intricate Carving Tool is destroyed on use. Stone and Modifying Tool appear to have a high breaking rate. Make sure you buff your Focus before attempting to remove an Atlan Stone.

From the State of the Code:

What are the crafting skill checks needed to create the new Isparian Weapons?

The crafting checks are based off of achievable stats at level 50. They take into consideration buffing as well. There has been some player discussion that places the skill checks well beyond the range of what the average player of Asheron's Call could achieve before level 100. This is simply not the case.

With these weapons we introduced a new dynamic in crafting that would allow a player who obtains the lowest quality initial item, in this case a Pyreal Infused Ingot, to have the chance to create the Perfect final version. The skill checks for those interactions are extremely high.

True Alchemists will be best at making the highest quality of Ingot, as has always been the case, and the skill check is very high. But again, the "best" version of the items is meant to be difficult to obtain.
