From the
Betrayal
event. The Gelidite
Library quest asks you to make a choice at the end: should Nuhmudira be
damned, or saved? Is she un unwitting pawn, undeserving of this cruel fate,
or the Monster of the Labyrinth--callously sacrificing Isparian lives in her
lust for blood magic? The choice you make will affect your future actions.
(Saving her will allow you to go on to
complete the
Ruined Amulets and
Nuhmudira's
Boon quests. If you choose to condemn her, you will be flagged for the
Callous
Heart quest.)
For more on Nuhmudira's background,
read Brink of
the Abyss,
Homestead,
and the teasers from
The First
Strike,
Flesh and Blood,
Betrayal
and
Persuasion.
Agent of the Arcanum tells you, "It is
a sad time my friend. Our leader, Nuhmudira, has left us and wandered into
the northern wilds with her new apprentice. I cannot believe the rumors that
are circulating about her having sacrificed her closest confidant, and
protector...but..."
The agent sighs and looks to meet your eyes.
Agent of the Arcanum tells you, "We want you to help
us find her. Please. She headed to the north, somewhere deep into the
mountains. We do not know exactly where, but there is a rumor of an ancient
library that once belonged to the Gelidites hidden somewhere. If you can
please find Nuhmudira."
A tear falls from the Agent's eye. Their voice
crackles and breaks.
Agent of the Arcanum tells you, "We shall be lost
without her. Until she is found we shall still accept: any of the four
elemental prisms, Regular and Quality Pyreal Ingots, Diamond Powder and
Nuhmudira's Token."
The Agent wipes the tears away and sniffs. Dabbing at
the tears with the corner of their robe.
The
Gelidite Library is
located near Stonehold at 69.2N 17.2W. From
Shortcuts:
from Arwic take the Subway to Qalaba'r. Take the
Azaroth Cottages Settlement portal at 74.8S, 17.8E. You'll exit at 84.1N,
31.1W, a short run from a portal to Stonehold located at 85.8N, 27.6W.
From Stonehold it's just a short run to the Library Entrance (cannot be
tied, recalled or summoned - no level restrictions). Kai Mallan stands guard
at the entrance.
Kai Mallan, Sho Enchanter tells you, "How
did you come to me? You have overstayed your welcome here, return to your
precious cities. My master cares not for those that will let her evil go
unpunished."
Kai Mallan,
Sho Enchanter says, "Sacrificing Isparian, for any cause against their
will...evil!"
The Entrance
The entrance section of the Gelidite Library has been taken over by
Flammas (Level
61) and Shivvers
(Level 61). After you head down the ramp, the path splits. Each corridor
leads to a large room, one to the north and one to the south. Inside these
room it's chaos! Dead bodies litter the floor and the books once read by Gelidites lay torn and scattered. A tome in the South room,
Linaural
Urilaentai,
can still be rescued, but you must fight past 5
Flammas to retrieve it. The
north room is also occupied by
Flammas. Another tome,
Miadun hu
Okardunai, is badly charred, but several pages may still be
salvageable.
Use cold attack on the
Flammas. If you're attempting this solo, you can open the door to lure them
out one or two at a time, then shut the door behind them. You'll be hit with
Fire Attacks, plus Fire Vulnerability III and Drain Health III.
When you have your texts,
head to the north wall of the north room and look for the secret passage
(just run against the side of the wall until you find the opening). Take the
ramp down, go east through a small room, then head down further, battling
Shivvers.
Shivvers
also cast Drain Health and will hit you with Cold Attacks. Fire, of course,
works best to combat them. At the split choose either passage, going south
at the intersection; they both lead to the same room -- a large open area
with two stone heads. Take the corridor on the east wall and head down the
ramp to the Labyrinth portal.
Gelidite Library
Labyrinth
Once you're through the entrance portion, you don't have to worry about
battling any more creatures. Everything in the
Labyrinth is dead, including Nuhmudira's Wood Golem and, well... everything. Yuck.
You enter in a small room
with 4 doors leading out. A dead Oak Golem lies in the middle, a Book
Binding at his side. Pick up the Book Binding. You are going to be exploring
the labyrinth, looking for 8 missing pages. Once you have completed
reconstructing the book, you will give it to the
Oubliette Guardian who will
allow you through the portal to make your judgment. If you use 6th Sense,
you may want to add "Note". The [ & ] keys also help you locate objects on
the ground. Even with a map, it's easy to get lost. And all the dead bodies,
and the blood, and the screaming can be a little unnerving.

Gelidite Library Labyrinth
East Passage -- 4
Notes
Take a right at the first fork and head down. At the
next split make a left. Note IV is at the end.
Head back to the fork and take the other path.
It leads to a circular area
with two wooden doors (N & S). Take the north door
and make a right at the fork. Follow the corridor to Note VII.
Back track to the South door (at the circular area). At
the four way split hug the left wall. Make the first right then go south
through 2 doors. Make a left at the split for Note V.
From the note room take
the east door out. Keep to your right, then right again for Note VI.
West Passage -- 2
Notes
From the Dead Oak Golem take the west passage. At the
first split make a right for Note III.
Head back to the fork
and take the south split. Head down and at the split keep to the left for
Note I.
South
Passage -- 1 Note
From the dead Oak Golem make
a left at the first split. Note II is in a small alcove to the right along
the passage.
North
Passage -- 1 Note
Again from the Golem make a right at the first fork.
Head up the ramp and take either passage. Go north up another ramp then
turn left at the fork for Note VIII.
If you take that last
split the other direction heading north, then bearing left, you will reach
a surface portal.
--Special thanks to Optoman of TD for directions
through the Labyrinth.
Gelidite Library
Oubliette
Once you have all 8 pages, place them in the binder to
make an Unreadable Tome.
The page reattaches itself to the book, for a brief instant the sigil on
the page looks as though it bleeds. A womans [sic] voice echoes in your mind
speaking in a tongue you do not understand.
From the dead Golem take
the north passage again, then go left at the first split. You'll come to a
room with a Dais, a portal to the
Gelidite Library Oubliette, and the
Oubliette Gatekeeer (a golem).
Hand the Unreadable Tome to the Gatekeeper and you will be flagged to
enter the portal.
Map:
Gelidite Library Oubliette
Oubliette Gatekeeper tells you, "It is
forbidden to pass these walls, unless you have been given the permission
of he who watches the gate. To be given that passage hand me your key so
that I may verify the inscriptions and grant you access. But be
forewarned, your entry to this place will place you in direct contact with
the accused. Make your decision wisely for you shall damn forever or free
the criminal within."
Oubliette Gatekeeper tells you, "The key, of course is a writing infused
with the magic of my masters, had you forgotten. I will see that the power
of the dias [sic] is infused into the writings and return it to you."
You give Oubliette Gatekeeper Unreadable Tome.
The Golem lifts a metallic hand toward the dais holding the book. A soft
thrum echoes through the room, as a warm glow surrounds the book. Pages
twist upon one another, and a feeling of warmth cascades over you.
Oubliette Gatekeeper gives you Nuhmudira's Charm.
Oubliette Gatekeeper tells you, "Read well the words within, this is a
living being that has been imprisoned. There is too much passion in the
writing for it to be otherwise. Choose wisely for the work within has
never been used upon living flesh before and the results are as of yet
untested and unknown. This prisoner must be guilty of heinous crimes
against my masters."
Oubliette Gatekeeper tells you, "You may now pass. Remember your judgement
is final."
Text:
Nuhmudira's
Charm
You'll enter a circular
room with a large raised platform. Nuhmudira sobs can be heard coming from
above. A series of notes are scattered on the floor.
Text:
Nuhmudira's Notes
Two
levers are on either side of the
Oubliette. You will pull one of the
levers to pass your judgment on Nuhmudira. The Skull lever saves her; the
plain lever damns her.
Skull Lever
When you pull the skull lever, you are flagged as a "Friend of the
Arcanum." Your life essence will be transferred to Nuhmurdira and you will
find yourself at the Zaikhal lifestone with 5% vitae (you will not lose
any items).
You feel your strength leave you as your soul is stripped of essence. In
your mind a woman's voice says, "Thank You."
Return to an Agent of the Arcanum to continue your
adventure in the
Ruined Amulet and
Nuhmudira's
Boon quests.
Plain Lever
Pulling the plain lever damns Nuhmudira.
You'll be flagged as "Merciless" and portalled back to Kai Mellon at the
entrance.
A feeling of abandoning a friend, washes over you.
Lever teleports you with Portal Sending Merciless.
Kai Mallan, Sho Enchanter tells you, "Greetings. Thank
you for showing the wisdom to let the witch suffer her fate. Her
transgression against her fellow man is at an end. My teacher is working on
a reward for those that show this witch what she deserves."
Kai Mallan, Sho Enchanter waves his hand in the air,
an odd gesture, but one he seems to find amusing.
Kai Mallan, Sho Enchanter tells you, "He is
constructing a place for you to train yourselves quickly. Mind you, you
cannot stay there, and if you leave while within you cannot go back. He has
told me to inform you that the training grounds will be prepared within the
next cycle of the moons."
Kai Mallan, Sho Enchanter wipes his brow as if he is
sweating.
Kai Mallan, Sho Enchanter tells you, "Go now, and be
assured that you have chosen the correct path. Damning Nuhmudira to her dark
and twisted fate. But remember to return to this place to receive your
reward for syph- punishing the witch for her transgression!"
Those who have condemned
Nuhmudira can complete the
Callous
Heart quest.
If you speak to an
Agent of the Arcanum after
abandoning Nuhmudira, you will receive the following message:
Agent of the Arcanum tells you, "How could you!? You found her and you left
her for dead!? Don't you realize all that she has done for you? I am..."
The Arcanum agent smoothes their clothing and breathes deeply. You can see
the anger seething beneath the surface. Their eyes no longer hold a friendly
and caring quality, they have been replaced by contempt and hatred.
Agent of the Arcanum tells you, "I will continue to do the things that
Nuhmudira, has asked us to do for all Isparians. But I think that it will be
a long time before I forget this transgression. You are heartless."
Agent of the Arcanum tells you, "We will accept: any of the four elemental
prisms, Diamond Powder, Nuhmudira's Token, and Quality or Regular Ingots in
exchange for Writs of Refuge. But we shall reward them to you grudgingly,
for you abandoned our leader thinking only of yourself. When you have
obtained a Writ seek out a homestead and determine what else is need to
purchase the home by use of the Covenant Stone. I pray you find a solitary
home away from me, or you live with others who, like you, are cold and
calloused toward those in need. Perhaps you could all purchase some of the
new dwellings with them. That way you can all live in one community and I
would no longer need to deal with you."
The two texts you picked
up in the Library entry can be translated in Cragstone.
You give Bretself the Translator Linaural Urilaentai.
Bretself the Translator tells you, "An interesting read, a bit fanatical in
spot. I have made notes where they are applicable."
Bretself the Translator gives you Tome of the
Elements.
Text: Tome
of the Elements
You give Bretself the Translator Miadun hu Okardunai.
Bretself the Translator tells you, "Will wonders never
cease? This book was difficult because of the damage wrought upon it. As
well the text itself was written in a variation of Dericost, akin to that of
the Gelid."
Bretself the Translator gives you Mana and the
Elements.
