From Hollow Victory

Town Crier tells you, "Sir Candeth Martine of the Dereth Exploration Society recently went into the Blackmire west of Sawato, to research the habits of Mosswarts. A funny duck, that one. Me, all I need to about Mosswarts is how to make them do that squeak when they die!"

It may be hard to believe, but Martine's troubles didn't begin with the Virindi! Instead, he got himself mixed up with Mosswarts. Speak to his friend, Olivier Rognath in Eastham (17.5N, 63.3E), avid Banderling hobbyist and Society Explorer wanna-be, for more information.

Olivier Rognath tells you, "Hello! Have you seen my friend, Sir Martine? He has been missing for quite some time now. I had heard the Society had sent him out on a Mosswart research expedition, but I assumed he would have been back by now."
Olivier Rognath tells you, "If you come across any strange Banderling artifacts, please come see me at once. I am an avid Banderling hobbyist. And please, no Banderling scalps! I want to study these creatures, not kill them!"
Olivier Rognath tells you, "No, I am no longer quite as nimble as I once was, so I have not been able to procure an Explorer designation from the Society as yet. Sir Olivier Rognath does roll off the tongue quite nicely, though, eh? Perhaps it will happen in the future."
Olivier Rognath tells you, "Poor Sir Candeth. I begin to fear the worst. I wish I knew where he had been sent off to. I heard a rumor the outpost was some distance west of Sawato. But sometimes the Society can be quite secretive, you know."

Banderling Mace Shaft
The
Banderling Conquest Dungeon is located west of Sawato at 29.0S, 50.5E (no level restrictions). To reach the dungeon, you can go to the Yanshi Settlement Portals at 10.3S, 45.7E and take the Swamp Temple Place portal which exits at 23.9S, 44.4E.

Two Banderling Scouts guard the entrance with a few Ravers and Guards further in. At the first intersection make a left and follow the corridor until you reach an open room. There are two exits out of the room: the south exit takes you to the Journal; the west exit takes you to the Banderling Mace Shaft.

From the south exit simply go straight at the split past the Banderling Raider. Open the door and you'll see A Battered Leather Journal lying on the floor. If you continue down the other path at the split, you'll eventually reach a room at the bottom where a Banderling Captain is busy making plans!

Head back to the open room and now take the west exit. Take either path at the split. You may have to fight past a Raver or two. Either route will lead you to a large open sloping area where numerous Young Banderlings and Banderling Guards spawn. (There's nothing at the bottom of the slope except more Banderlings.)

To reach the Shaft, take the west corridor at the top out of the sloping room. Head south and go down the ramp. At the intersection at the bottom of the ramp go south again. You'll encounter more Raiders and Ravers. At the next intersection make a quick turn west, then immediately wrap around south again. From here it's a straight shot to the end.

Before you reach the end, you'll pass an area with 4 more Raiders and a few Guards. When you reach the final room, you'll see the Banderling Mace Shaft on the floor, guarded by the Chief, a Breeder and a Young Banderling. The Shaft is no-drop, no-give.

Banderling Mace Head
Return to Eastham and give Olivier Rognath the Shaft for further information about Martine's possible whereabouts.

You give Olivier Rognath Banderling Mace Shaft.
Olivier Rognath gives you Banderling Mace Shaft.

Olivier Rognath tells you, "What a find! This is the shaft of a unique Banderling Ceremonial Weapon. They use it in many of their tribal rituals, although for unknown purposes. If you can find the head of this weapon, and then find a way to reattach the weapon, I would be most interested! Please come see me! The last I heard the head was in some sort of Maze a ways off east from Uziz."

You give Olivier Rognath A Battered Leather Journal.
Olivier Rognath gives you A Battered Leather Journal.

Olivier Rognath tells you, "Oh my. This is certainly distressing. But tremendously exciting. I almost envy him! To be able to observe them this closely...I, too, have never heard of Banderlings and Mosswarts coming to blows. I shall have to further ponder what this means. And I will have to forward this news on to the Society. If you come across any further word of the whereabouts of Sir Martine, I would be most desperate to learn of it. The last I heard he was spotted somewhere near Uziz."

The Mosswart Maze is located at 25.2S, 19.4E (no level restrictions). It can be reached via any number of portals from the Al-Arqas settlement portals - 33.6S, 13.2E. The Ahr-Zona portal is one of the closest and will drop you at 21.7S, 18.4E.

When you enter, you'll be attacked by 2 Barkers Mosswarts. To find Martine's 2nd Journal make your first right, then continue to hug the right wall all the way to the end. A Dry Withered Leather Bound Journal spawns on the floor, guarded by 2 Barker Mosswarts.

To find the Mace Head, hug the left wall to get back to the entrance. Once again take your first right. At the three way intersection, take the middle corridor and continue straight past 4 hallways. Go around a curve, then go left at the split. Follow the corridor straight (pass the hallway leading to an exit portal) until you see a blue haze. Make a sharp 90 degree turn heading north, then head down the ramp. The Banderling Mace Head is in the final room, guarded by two Goldenback Tuskers. Like the Shaft, it's no-drop, no-give.

If you'd like to continue exploring the dungeon, you can head straight at the entrance and follow the looping corridors until you reach a chest at the end. You'll have to survive numerous Magic Traps which cast Whirling Blade II and the attacks of a few Mosswart Shaman. Another chest lies at the end of the SW passages. Black Rats and more Mosswart inhabit the halls.

Mace of the Explorer
Return to Eastham with the Head and the Journal and give them to Olivier Rognath.

You give Olivier Rognath Banderling Mace Head.
Olivier Rognath gives you Banderling Mace Head.

Olivier Rognath tells you, "Ahhh....fascinating. I believe this is a part of a rare Ceremonial Weapon, highly prized by Banderling tribes. For what reason, no one knows; it's the cutting edge of Banderling Studies. If only you had the shaft as well. The last I heard it was in a banderling dungeon far west from Sawato."

You give Olivier Rognath A Dry Withered Leather Bound Journal.
Olivier Rognath tells you, "Well, this explains everything! Well, not everything. But it is a start! I can only surmise that Sir Martine's thoughts on the matter are correct. A Banderling Ceremonial Weapon! I am most amazed. If I could get my hand on such a weapon, it would be an invaluable find! I wonder what is behind all these machinations. Is it possible the Mosswarts are acting on their own? Strange are the wonders of Dereth. And whatever happened to Sir Martine? Maybe there are clues on the new Jungle Island? I have heard rumors sighting him there."
Olivier Rognath gives you A Dry Withered Leather Bound Journal.

To get the mace, first combine the Head with the Shaft to make a Banderling Ceremonial Weapon. Give the Ceremonial Weapon to Olivier and he will give you the Mace of the Explorer in return.

You find that you are able to attach the shaft to the stone in such a way as to form an ornate though unwieldy Mace.
You give Olivier Rognath Banderling Ceremonial Weapon.
Olivier Rognath gives you Mace of the Explorer.

Olivier Rognath tells you, "My word, I am speechless! Well, not speechless, but certainly amazed! This is the first Banderling Ceremonial Weapon we have found intact. I must send this on to the Society at once. There may even be an Explorership in it for me. In return for this artifact, let me present to you this quality weapon. It will serve you in good stead for much of your adventuring career."

The finished mace is no-drop, no-give, but it may be lost on death.

Just for fun, you can give Olivier a severed Banderling Head and watch his reaction!

You give Olivier Rognath Banderling Head.
Olivier Rognath tells you, "Disgusting. Why do you engage in such senseless slaughter of these fascinating creatures? Here, take this back. I want nothing to do with it."
Olivier Rognath gives you Banderling Head.
