Special thanks to Sauveteur of SC for her detailed research and walk-through on this quest!

So you want to wear the title of Queen Slayer! Here is how to go about that, in a simple step-by-step procedure. There are several choices to make, but let’s begin with setting it up.

BELLS

First you will need to get the bell parts to make the 5 Bells required to trigger the quest.

--Bell Part #1 - Piece of Curved Metal
East Fork Dam Hive - 48.5N, 76.4W, Levels 50+

For all the bell parts, you'll need to get 5 of each. In the East Fork Dam Hive you'll encounter Chaos and Vapor Wisps, Diamond Golems and Olthoi Legionaires and Nobles.

Inside there is a lever operated door and the respawn is quite fast. You may want to have one person operate the lever while the rest of the team makes their way to the chest room. (This part may be soloed, but you probably want 2 people minimum.)

When you enter, you'll be at the top of a ramp facing west. Head west down the ramp, then jump backwards into the waterfall and run forward. (The water does bludgeon damage - wear protection!) Hug the east wall to your right shoulder and run north. When you turn the corner heading east, there will be a ramp up on your right heading south. Take the ramp up and open the door. At the east end of the hall is the level room. Station your level puller here.

From the lever room take the hallway heading south. Take the east ramp down on the left. Next take the south ramp down on the right to a large room. Turn left (east) and exit the room, then run all the way to the wall at the end. Take the ramp to your right down heading east, and at the bottom turn left, heading east again. Hug the wall to the left and you'll come to the Acid Pool.

Keeping the wall to your left shoulder, run through the acid to the a door and open it using lockpick. Head up the ramp and you'll find the door that the lever opens. Once the door is open, take the first opening on the left. The Rusty Chest is in the SW corner of the room (difficulty 350). Wait for it to lock again before re-looting the Piece of Curved Metal (no-give, spawns every couple of minutes). Once you have 5 of them, head over to the room across the hall and take the NE exit. Take the ramp up on your left heading west, then open the doors and jump into the portal below. You'll exit at 48.4N, 76.7W

Solo method: go to the lock pick door and cast weaken lock on it. Run back and pull the lever. Run back to lock pick door, open and continue up to lever door. Do NOT fight.

Note: The pit in the East Fork Dam contains Undead, Diamond Golems and an Ossauary which gives the following message:

As you approach the coffin, a cool, detached contralto voice echoes through the hall. She speaks in an Empyrean dialect; soon enough her voice forms recognizable words within your mind. "Here is the chevaird Ghalin Surconit, laid where he fell before the servants of our prey. We were nearly there, my trueblood. You shall be avenged. So swears Lady Rajael."

--Bell Part #2 - Sheet of Curved Metal
48.3N, 80.5W - Levels 35+

Run across the river to the other side and enter the Dam Management building. The chest for the Sheet of Curved Metal is in the back. Again you'll need to get 5 of them. Repair the bell by attaching the second piece onto the first.

--Bell Part #3 - Pyreal Mace
North Fork Dam Hive - 51.4N, 76.0W
Levels 70+
Map: North Fork Dam Hive

Inside you'll encounter Vapor and Diamond Golems, Synnasts and Scathisa. It's not necessary to fight any of them to retrieve the Pyreal Mace. When you enter the Hive, you'll be facing West. Run down the stairs and the ramp heading west. At the waterfall, jump facing backwards then run forward to the wall. Turn right heading south and run along the wall until you turn the left corner heading east. Head up the ramp and continue north, passing the Diamond Golem room.

When you reach the locked door, use lockpick to open it (dif 402) then continue up the ramp. At the top, head north again passing the elementals. You're heading for the locked door just beyond the levers. Use lockpick again to open it (dif 402), then shut it behind you. Pick the Rusty Chest and retrieve the Pyral Mace. Repair the bell by combining the partially repaired bell and pyreal mace. Once the bell is repaired, it may be given! Store the 5 bells until you are ready to begin the quest.

The pieces of metal fit together.
The loop of the pyreal mace attaches to the bell, allowing the item to serve as a clapper. The bell can now be rung!

PREPARATION

Select a date and a time for your quest run and designate a Queen Slayer. A group of 6-8 is ideal. Recruit 3 people who have and can activate Healer's Hearts. Have a mage who can challenge the Queen's 406 Magic Defense. Make sure all your party can buff their own 7s (6s are absolute minimum). Everyone needs to be level 70+. Form teams for holding the door, with one person as the doorstop and another guarding that person. Now you're ready to begin!

DROPPING THE BELLS

Next, you'll need volunteers to drop the bells. Give each of the recruits a bell with the location and approximate time inscribed on it. Recruits must be level 35+ and must be reliable. They will get absolutely nothing for this time and they will not be able to enter Timaru for 3 weeks. There is also a 3 week timer on the bell drop. If you try to drop a bell 2x in that 3 week period, there is a penalty and your title will be changed to Stone Breaker. Second attempts by other characters will be ignored. The exception to this is if you kill the queen, then you will be able to enter Timaru.

Bell 1 - 53.0N, 73.3W
Bell 2 - 49.2N, 74.6W
Bell 3 - 46.5N, 75.8W (fighter required)
Bell 4 - 44.7N, 80.9W
Bell 5 - 50.1N, 80.4W

At each of the coordinates above, an Aun Drummer spawns inside a Menhir ring. When you hand a bell to the Aun Drummer, he will curse you and disappear and the ring will break. There is a 15 minute delay between the next bell drop. Each bell dropper should tell the Quest Leader when they have dropped their bell.

You give Aun Gehaua Pyreal Bell.
Aun Gehaua Tells you, "How interesting. This is an instrument used by your people? Tonk says 'music is all and everlasting'"
The crashing of the great pyreal bell reverberates through the ground. The menhir stones crack and break!
Aun Gehaua tells you, "No! What have you done! Villian!"

Note: If the 1st Menhir ring is broken, you will know a quest is already in progress. Another indication is that Aun Hareltah in Timaru is not sitting down.

The Olthoi in the north of Marae have begun to swarm!

Note: Visit the Tesserae quest for information on the Olthoi Spawns triggered during the Queen's Quest.

MOUNT ELYRII HIVE - GETTING SPRAYED

Once the 3rd bell has been dropped, the quest team should report to Mount Elyrii Hive at 48.5N, 81.7W.

Map: Mount Elyrii Hive

If you're using a mule to drop a bell, position your main at the Hive ahead of time. Team members should be prepared with adequate supplies. The quest can run several hours; good quest runs can finish about an hour after the final bell is dropped.

Once the 4th bell is dropped the quest leader can give the signal for the team to buff. Buffs should include Impenetrability, Bludgeon, Slashing, Pierce and Acid and banes to all armor and shields.

Designate your teams:

--First Lever Runner - responsible for the levers that allow access to the spray room inside Mount Elyrii Hive. If possible, send two. They'll be fighting Chaos Wisps.
--Quest Leader - takes the rest of the team (the others below) to the spray room.
--Team #1 - two people who hold the first door on the path to the spray room. Also responsible for holding door #1 in the Royal Hive.
--Team #2 - responsible for holding door #2 in the Royal Hive.
--Team #3 - responsible for holding door #3.

After the final bell is dropped, the quest team enters the Hive.

The Lever Runner Team:

The Runner team takes the SW ramp down (the ramp closest to the entry). Head west until you must jump into a pit. Take the east door and head north into a large room. In the far NW corner of the room you'll see a door plate. Use it to open a door for The Others. When the other have someone firmly holding the door (Team #1), exit using the portal in the SE corner of the room.

The Runner team re-enters the hive and now takes the SE ramp down, heading south. Jump into the pit, then head north by northwest, killing Chaos Wisps along the way. The second floor plate is located in the west end of the room.

Head back south taking the first center ramp up, then taking the SW ramp. At the top, make a U-turn and continue up the center ramp. When you reach the pit, jump up to the platform and continue back to the entry floor of the Hive. If you have a very high skill, this can be a tricky jump. Do not use a full power jump.

Take the NW ramp down, then head north and pass through the door being held by Team #1. Bring Team #1 with you and continue down to door #2 which the Quest Leader will open to allow you entrance. Continue to the spray room to join the others.

The Others

After entering the Hive, head down the NW ramp. Once Door #1 opens, leave Team #1 to hold it and the rest of the team follows the leader down to Door #2.

When door #2 opens, The Others continue on to the spray room where they divide into two smaller groups. One half takes the northern pit and the other takes the southern pit. Killing the Eviscerators will eventually get you sprayed. As soon as a member is sprayed, move back to the ledge that separates the two pits and only kill the Legionaires. There is a small hive there and the sprayed members stand that hill. There is a timer of 90 minutes on the spray.

The quest leader should return to Door #2 to operate the plate for the lever runners. The plate is located in the alcove facing the door. When the rest of the group has passed through the door, return to the pits to make sure everyone gets sprayed.

TO THE ROYAL HIVE PORTAL

After being sprayed, the quest team should head back to the entry of Mount Elyrii Hive. The leader will open Door #2 just as before for the lever runners. On the last platform before going up the ramp to Door #1 there will be a floor plate (beside the ramp doorway to the right). The Quest Leader holds Door #1 while the teams kills the Chaos Wisp and the Lever Runner rejoins them.

At the Mount Elyrii Hive entry, take the NE ramp. Ignore the Chaos Wisps and head east, then north until you reach a jump. Jump into the pit, then regroup in the passage. Head east, then north again, then east into a large room.

Once you've reached the large room, head down and NE where you'll find the Royal Hive portal.

Note: Do not fight. Do not run in attack mode. The only person to fight is the melee fighter with the highest melee defense. This person tries to attract the bugs to them, allowing the rest of the quest members clear access to the portal. Once everyone is through the portal, then the fighter will stop fighting and join the rest of the group.

THE ROYAL HIVE

Map: Royal Hive

Note: You must be sprayed first to enter the Royal Hive.

After entering the Royal Hive Portal, don't step back (there's a portal behind you!). Instead, congregate in the SE corner. If buff timers are less than 15 minutes, the quest leader should give the order to rebuff. Again designate people to perform specific tasks. One person will be the runner and will operate the floor plates of the room at the top of the ramp. This person must have lock pick and know the path up to the 3rd door.

The rest of the team should head up the wide ramp to the east and take the downward ramp in the center of the room going south. At the bottom of the ramp there will be a locked door on the left (to the east - dif 402). Use lockpick to open it then continue down the passage until the jump.

Jump down and take the north ramp and head up. At the open area, head west and take the first opening on the right. Continue west until you reach Door #2. Your initial runner will open the door and Team #1 will hold it. The rest of the party can continue through the tunnel.

After heading down the ramp, you'll exit the tunnel facing south. Do a quick U-turn to your right and take the tunnel north to Door #3. Have your runner open the door and have Team #2 hold the door. The rest of the party will continue until they reach a large open room. On the NE wall, take the tunnel out of the room until you reach Door #4. The runner will open the door and Team #3 will hold it.

The Runner

When the main group leaves to go to their stations, the runner will head up the wide ramp and look for the Wasteland Hive portal to the north. Next to the portal is a ramp down. The runner will take the ramp and head south, but will stop just short of entering the room at the bottom. When the runner hears that the group is stationed at their first door (Door 2 on the map), they should run forward to the center of the room. When the floor plate is engaged, you will hear a clicking sound (Plate 2 on map). When the runner gets the signal the the group is holding the door, run back to the entrance room and look for the ramp next to the North Fork Hive portal.

The steps are the same. The runner takes the ramp heading west and will wait outside the room until given the signal. The runner activates the plate (Plate 3) and gets the signal from the main group that the door is secure.

The last door is opened by taking the ramp from the southern section of the entrance room (there is no portal next to this ramp). Head north down the ramp and again, trigger the floor plate to open the door for the group.

When the runner gets confirmation that the last door is secure, rejoin the team. Run to the top of the landing and take the ramp down. From here, the runner follows the same path the main group did.

Note: As the runner passes through each door, that team will follow. There should be no fighting prior to any door! Fighting should only occur on the lee side of each door, and then the group should move together to the next.

THE YOUNG QUEEN

Once the team is reunited, take a few minutes to regroup and issue any instructions if necessary. If buff timers are low, rebuff. This is the rehearsal run and a chance to correct any problems.

When the quest leader is satisfied that everyone is prepared, head down to the shelf on the SE corner of the room. Stop here. Have the mages vuln the Olthoi below, but avoid the Queen. This is the young queen, a decoy, if you will. When it is determined that everything is vulned, then the party may jump into the pit and kill everything, BUT NOT THE QUEEN.

When everything is dead, move to the SW corner of the room, avoiding the queen and to be near the exit portal.

The quest leader now gives the command for the mages and archers to kill the young queen while the rest of the team watches.

As soon as the team sees the announcement that the young queen is dead, they rush to exit through the portal. The actual Queen will spawn immediately, and to stay is needlessly dangerous (and will probably delay the quest).

BACK AT THE ROYAL HIVE

Repeat everything you did before on your “Rehearsal Run” through the Royal Hive until Team is reunited on the down ramp just after the last door (Door 4 on the map).

ASSAULT ON THE QUEEN

Again, check buffs. If there is less than 15 minutes, rebuff. The leader instructs those with Healer's Hearts to equip them and test heal the Designated Queen Slayer. Their instructions will be as follows: When the meleer jumps into the death pit, you Healers will ID that person only. You will begin healing and not stop. Do NOT chat. Do NOT use a heal spell, use only the heart to heal the meleer in the pit.” Next the leader will designate the Queen's mage. That player must be able to overcome the Queen's magic defense of 406. If there are other mages on the quest team, one will be chosen to vuln the Olthoi who respawn on the shelf floor. Guards are also chosen to protect the healers and the Queen's Mage on the shelf floor.

There are four different methods to killing the queen, but only methods 1 & 2 are recommended. Let’s face it; the “free for all” methods frequently don’t work and extend the quest. The object of the quest is to kill the Queen and not to search for new death items. Most people want to recover their corpses. The four methods follow:

1. Method for missile chars and mages
2. Method for meleers
3. Free for all
4. Free for all with a designated killer.

1. Method for Missile Characters & Mages

These players will not engage the Queen directly. They will stay above her, on the shelf, and shoot down at her. Therefore, you will need a meleer to hold the Queen in view of those on the shelf who will kill her. The qualifications for the meleer are simple: high melee defense and trust.

Get everyone up along the edge of the shelf. The Queen's Mage should be placed in the middle with the healers on either side closer to the walls. The Guard should stand just behind them. If there is another mage then that person should be standing back to back to the Queen’s Mage. The Jumper should position himself so that he can jump backwards directly into the southeast corner WHEN the call to jump has been given. Until that time, everyone waits.

The Queen's Mage will ID the Queen and begin Vulning her. The common set of debuffs for all types of Queen Slayers includes Magic Yield, Focus, Willpower, Strength, Quickness, Coordination, and Decrepitude's Grasp. If the kill takes a long time, be sure to renew those debuffs on a timely basis. If the Designated Slayer is a Missile character, add Gossamer Flesh, Broadside of a Barn and Archer's Gift. For a Mage, use Archer's Gift or Tusker's Gift. Pierce is recommended, although many prefer Bludgeon.

As the Queen's Mage is debuffing, the healers should begin using their Healer's Heart on the jumper. (There is a known bug where changing the magic item will cause the Healer’s Heart to cast whatever the previous magic item could cast. There have been a few Jumpers that died brilliant deaths, being “brilled” by a healer’s heart because the Healer had a Focusing stone in hand before!) To use the Healer's Heart correctly, Place it in a preferred hot key slot and equip it, enter into combat mode, identify the heart icon on the far left side of the tab and click on it, open the fellowship panel, locate the name of the jumper and click on it. Now you're ready to heal using the button below the spell tab that reads: USE the Healer's Heart on [character name]. Find a comfortable rhythm and heal. Don't stop until the global announced the Queen's death. Trust the guards to protect you, as you are trusted by the jumper.

When the Queen's Mage is finished debuffing the Queen, then the mage should give the command to the jumper to jump! The jumper should jump backwards into the SW corner of the pit. Do NOT jump in attack mode. Do NOT ID anything. Simply wait for the queen to come to you. When she does, you may ID her and call out her health percentage. If you want to engage your melee defense mode, go into combat mode, but DO NOT attack the queen. It is absolutely mandatory that you stay stationary in the corner so you cannot fight, or you will be dragged away and killed. A good trick: tink a no-wield UA weapon with brass, and enter attack mode. This ensures that you will evade at least the guards and eviscerators.

2. Method for Meleers

This method is similar to the one above, with the exception that it's the melee player in the pit who is the Designated Slayer. The rest of the team will remain on the shelf above, attending to their responsibilities as previously defined with a couple of minor exceptions:

--One: the Queen’s Mage will ID the Queen and begin vulning her. (The Queen’s Mage will continue to monitor the health of the Queen as needed). The common set of debuffs, for all types of melee killers includes Magic yield, Focus, Willpower, Strength, Quickness, Coordination (to protect the meleer), Gossamer Flesh, Gravity Well and Decrepitude’s Grasp. If the kill takes too long, be sure to renew those debuffs on a timely basis. (be aware that you may be called upon to infuse Stamina to the meleer who is fighting below).

--
Two: When the Designated Slayer is an axer or macer, or UA use Tusker Gift.

--Three:
When the Designated Slayer is a dagger, spear, sword use Archer Gift. Be sure to instruct the killer to NOT use slash if he can.

When the Queen’s Mage is finished debuffing the Queen, they will give the “jump” command to the Jumper.
The jumper should jump backwards into the SW corner of the pit. Do NOT jump in attack mode. Do NOT ID anything. Simply wait for the queen to come to you. When she does, you may ID her and and attack! Do not move from the corner. If you are dragged, you will be out of the Healers' reach and you will die. Call out her health percentage.

When the queen is at 50% health, the Queen's mage and the Archers may begin shooting down at the Queen. When the global announces that the Queen has been killed, the healers stop healing and the entire team jumps down into the pit to kill the remaining Olthoi. The new Queen Slayer will stop fighting and will immediately open the Queen and loot her, making sure to take the head first. The head and eggs dissolve upon decay so loot fast. After the slayer grabs the head, everyone will loot the Queen in turn. The Queen drops the Queen's Head, 4 Olthoi Carapaces, 5 Olthoi Eggs, and various other items. Once you've looted all the kills, portal or recall out.

You run Olthoi Queen through!
In the darkest depths of Marescent Plateau on far Marae Lassel, the part of the bold [Player name] has slain the young queen of the island's Olthoi brook! As one, the Olthoi swarms recoil from her final burst of terror, and slowly begin to withdraw back into their hives.

The team reunites at Timaru ASAP for the head turn-in (44.2N, 78.4W). When everyone arrives, the slayer gives the head to Aun Hareltah for a reward of 40 million xp!

3. Free For All Method

Run and jump into the pit and run around trying not to die and to kill the Queen. A bit of advice here: make sure you have a Recall Gem to anywhere. The Queen can take you out in one blow if she hits you in the back. Remember, you will be attacked by the rest of the monsters. Of course, as in any all out battle, there will be an incredible amount of lag. Occasionally this method works; I saw it once. The killer was all sorry because the designated killer missed his quest.

3. Free For All Method with Designated Slayer

I have only one thing to say about the odds on this one with everyone getting out alive: ROFLMAO! However, I understand that there is a sweet spot nestled in the egg nest where a designated killer may be able to stand and kill the Queen while avoiding being hit by her. I don’t know exactly where this sweet spot is, but I can point out exactly where it is not (using the corpses I have recovered for folks not quite ON “the sweet spot”)

OTHER ENTRY POINTS INTO THE ROYAL HIVE

The Wasteland Hive
Map:
Wasteland Hive

The Wasteland Hive has a portal to the Royal Hive in the spray room.

Enter the Wasteland Hive by jumping backwards. Have a runner jump into the south pit and run south until you hit a wall. Make right and head west until you can go no further. Head north through a large open room then over an acid pit until you reach a locked door (dif 322). Use lockpick to open it then continue down the corridor heading north. Follow the passage around in a U-turn and exit into a room to the south. Use the floor plate in the center of the room to open the first door for the rest of your team.

Now retrace your steps, but this time jump from the south platform to the north. Head north and make a left at the end of the hall. Take the south passage at the other side of the room, go over the acid pit, wind around in a U-turn and step on floor plate #2.

Again retrace your steps back to the starting point and jump east this time, and head east (team path). Take either route at the T and you'll enter a large open room to the. Go down ramp in the center of the room and pass through the first door. At the T, take either route until you curve around to the west. You'll pass through the second door into the spray room with the portal to the Royal Hive.

North Fork Dam Hive
Map: North Fork Dam Hive

The North Fork Dam Hive also has a portal to the Royal Hive. Once you get sprayed, you will run into and under an acid pit to access the portal to royal hive. The person who will be holding the door under the acid should have a confident healing skill and an adequate amount of heal kits. You may also leave this hive and run over land to Mount Elyrii Hive. Basically, if you have a plate runner confident enough to face wisps, the easiest and quickest way is getting sprayed in the Mount.

QUEENSLAYER

Nuno, bloodied and battered after the battle in the Royal Hive, presents the stern Aun Hareltah with the head of the Olthoi Queen.
The Tah of Aun holds the head of the Queen before him, and bows in respect to the might of Wharu.
"Great anima of decay," he intones solemnly, "bear no ill will towards Nuno, who slew your servant respectfully,"
"From this day forward, Nuno shall be known and honored among the Aun as Queenslayer."
"Further," Hareltah says with a smile, "Nuno shall be known as my adopted kin!"
He pulls the startled Nuno into a warm embrace, as the Aun whisper among themselves. "...not of Tonk!" Aun Dreganaua is heard to protest.
"You have saved this xuta," Hareltah says gravely, his powerful voice carrying over the susurrations of the crowd. "For this, for all your experiences on the path to defeating the Queen, the hardest road known in these strange lands, I recognize you."
Nuno's party has been granted forty million experience points!
"Finally," Hareltah says, "there is the matter of this totem in my hands. I will prepare it for you with my own hands, my kin, that you may hang from your wall. With its power, your house shall be mighty among the Tonk and Isparian, and none shall wash the earth from under it."
Aun Hareltah embraces Nuno again with tears in his eye, and returns the head of the queen.

The head of the queen returned to you has been crafted and may now be mounted on a wall!

The Olthoi Carapaces may be turned in to the Olthoi Hunter in Arwic at 30.9N, 56.3E for a gorgeous purple Olthoi Cuirass! The cuirass may be given.

You give Olthoi Hunter Olthoi Carapace.
Olthoi Hunter tells you, "I feel humbled in your presence. It's no small task obtaining one of these..."
Olthoi Hunter gives you Olthoi Cuirass.
Olthoi Hunter tells you, "Take good care of this. It's a very special item."

Olthoi Eggs can be made into various Olthoi Egg Foods using the cooking skill! Chocolate Olthoi Cake! Yum, yum, yum!

From That Which Is Ours:
Lin-Po of FF reports you now receive a Queenslayer Title Token from Aun Hareltah from completing the Queen Quest. Return it to him for the title Queenslayer! Lin-Po also notes that the Eviscerators in the North Fork Dam now spray at a greatly increased rate for quicker entrance to the hive.
