Sturdy Iron Keys, or SIKs, are dropped by all kinds of high level creatures: Golems, Drudges, Lugians, Wasps, Elementals, Olthoi, Shadows, Skeletons, Rats, Virindi and more! (See the Trophies section for a full list.) The keys are used to open Steel Chests found throughout Dereth. Permanent SIK chests are found in dungeons. The chests contain valuable loot of varying types and degrees. Other chests are found randomly spawning on the Obsidian Plain and hold Level VII spell scrolls. (See Ker-Lin's Guide to Finding War Scrolls for some helpful tips.) Outside of dungeons, the chests are found in the Direlands outside of the VoD. You'll usually find them near Virindi spawns and Tusker Slaves and Guards spawns. Among the reported locations are the South Dires Landbridge portal drop, near the Beach Fort, and around the Black Hills. During the Mired Hearts event, an NPC in the Tusker Assault dungeon on Aphus Lassel (3.9S, 84.2E) began giving rewards in exchange for SIKs. See the Staff of the Painbringer quest for details. Black Spawn Den
Directions: Head north then take the east ramp down. Continue straight ahead
south until you reach the chest room.
Crater Caves
Directions:
From the drop take any of the
ramps down to the first room. Take the north passage and make a left at the
T. Head north until you go down a ramp and enter a small circular room.
Follow the passage east until the 4 way intersection. Take a right down the
ramp then go left at the T heading north down a ramp. Keep to the right
until the final room. The chest is in the south part of the final room past
the lava pit. Be careful: the heat will do fire damage! The SIK chest is the
middle of the 3 chests in the room.
Desert Mine
Directions: From the entrance
go right heading south then right again down a ramp. At the bottom, go left
through the locked door (dir 124), down a ramp and through another locked
door (dif 162), then east to another locked door (dif 122). To the north is
the final locked door (dif 402). The chest is to the left on the other side
of the door.
Direlands Temple
Disaster Maze
Directions: 1) From the drop
head west and go up and around the ramp. Take a right a the the T and go
through the locked door (dif 124). Head west and take the 2nd corridor on
the right. The SIK chest is in the far NW corner. 2) & 3) From the entrance,
find the door on the south wall (guarded by magic trap). Once through the
door keep to the south until you find the locked door (dif 400). Hug the
left wall until the final room. Two SIK chest are in the NE corner next to a
Slimy Note.
Dungeon of Corpses Directions: 1) & 2)
Halls of Metos Directions: Go north from the entrance and make a left at the T. Take the first right and jump across the acid pit. The SIK chest is in a room at the end of the passage guarded by golems.
Heart of Innocence Directions: The SIK chest is to the right at the top of the ramp in the room with Jaleh's corpse. See the Heart of Innocence quest write-up for details.
Leikotha's Crypt
Shortcut: Take the Samsur portal from Yaraq at 23.0S, 0.2W, then take the Yinar settlement portal at 0.8S, 18.9E. You'll exit 9.5S, 33.3E, a short run from the crypt.
Lich Tower Shortcut: Take the Baishi Foundry portal from Arwic at 33.6N, 56.7E, then take the Lin Kiln Park settlement portal at 50.2S, 63.4E. Run to the Lich Tower at 52.6S, 68.6E. You may have to jump down to the tower landing from the side of the mountain.
Lightless Catacombs
Directions: The SIK chest is in the final room along
with the chest for the 2nd half of the
Staff of
the Nomads. See the quest write-up for details.
Lugian Citadels Directions: From the drop, keep to your right until you reach your third open room. There will be a ramp to the west heading up and a ramp to the east heading down. Take the ramp down to the east and the chest is in an alcove in a room at the bottom.
Mage Academy Directions: The SIK chest is in Lord Rytheran's Library. See the Mage Academy quest write-up for details.
Mines of Despair Directions: The SIK chests are across the bridge in the Beyond the Mines of Despair section. See the Focusing Stone quest write-up for details.
Mount Lethe Magma Tubes Directions: The SIK chest is guarded by a Magma Golem next to a lever. See the Mount Lethe quest write-up for details.
Nevius Passage Directions: From the drop head west and go through the door. Take an immediate left and follow the corridor to the T. Make a right and at the next T make a left through the door. Follow the corridor and head west through the open room. Make a left at the split and head up the ramp. When you reach the large room, look for the door on the west wall. Once on the other side, jump into the pit. The SIK chest is at the bottom guarded by rats and a fire mist. You'll also find a portal to the North Desert Edge.
Olthoi Horde Nest Directions: Head north from the drop.
The Pit Directions: 1) Take the ramp down from the east corridor. Hug the left wall all the way down to the bottom of the pit. Look for the locked door in one of the small rooms to the SW (dif 332). The first SIK chest is behind the door. 2) The second SIK chest is almost to the bottom of the dungeon on the level above the exit portal. It's in a room to the NW guarded by undead.
Swamp Temple Directions: First get the Grotesquely Carved Key from the Swamp Temple near Yanshi 23.4S, 47.9E to unlock the door to the east (or dif 500). The chest in the final room among some unlocked chests.
Tainted
Grotto Directions: Take the passage to the north directly after going down the second sloping ramp in the large center room. Keep to the right until you reach a small room with 2 chests. This dungeon also contains a Sturdy Steel Chest.
Trial of the Vagabond Directions: The SIK chest is in Oswald's Room near Oswald's Chest. See the Oswald's Dirk quest write-up for details.
Trialos Directions: Hug the right wall until you reach the chest.
Tumerok Fortress Directions: The SIK chest is one of 6 chests guarded by a few Wasteland Rats. (One of the others is chest for the Gilded Tumerok Key.) See the Overlord's Sword quest write-up for details. |
