How to get Rings, Walls, Volleys, and Blasts from Steel Chests without spending all your SIKs.

By Ker-Lin of Frostfell

Everyone probably knows that if you use a Sturdy Iron Key (SIK) on a Steel Chest, you have a chance at getting one of these rare War Scrolls. Over the years, I've used a lot of SIKs on Steel Chests and after a while, I learned a few things about increasing my chances of getting the scrolls I wanted.

For a long time I've shared this only with my Monarch, Spud Battle, and some of my Adventurers Anonymous guild mates. I've become relatively wealthy in game terms selling the scrolls I've found using this system, but now I've decided to share with the AC community.

The basics are: Steel Chests weigh 9000 bu, Mana Charges weigh 50 bu, and Scrolls weigh 30 bu. If you keep these values in mind, you can make assumptions about the contents of a Steel Chest before you ever use a SIK on it.

When you're out running in the wilderness and find a Steel Chest, check the weight. In the great majority of cases, you will find they weigh 9130 or 9160 bu. A 9130 bu chest will contain a Scroll and 2 Mana Charges. If it s a 9160 bu chest, it will contain 2 Scrolls and 2 Mana charges.

Here's the catch: because these chests have 2 Mana Charges, they will NEVER contain a Ring, Wall, Volley, or Blast Scroll.

You want to find Steel Chests that only contain a single Mana Charge. They weigh 9110, 9140, or 9170 bu. A chest that weighs 9110 Bu will contain 2 Scrolls and 1 Mana Charge; a chest that weighs 9140 Bu will contain 3 Scrolls and 1 Mana Charge; a chest that weighs 9170 Bu will contain 4 Scrolls and 1 Mana Charge.

The important thing is that the first scroll in one of these chests will always be a Ring, Wall, Volley, or Blast Scroll.

So now the only trick is to find Steel Chests of the right weights. You can just keep using keys until you hit the right weight. I don't find this to be much help because you could blow through a full ring of SIKs and still not hit the right weight.

Instead, I prefer to just keep running if I find a chest with a bad weight. I only stop to use the chest if it has one of the good weights. The best part about this is that almost every time you find a chest in this fashion, as long as you continue to use SIKs and completely empty the chest each time, the chest should re-spawn with one of the good weights within 6 keys. This leaves you with 2 desirable War Scrolls per 6 keys used.

Best of luck with your Scroll Hunting.
