The Elemental Stones were created by Lady Maila, wife of Lord Atlan of Knorr,
to add additional properties to the
weapons
her husband had designed during the battle against the Hopeslayer. After the
defeat of Bael'Zharon, Asheron, tired of bloodletting, scattered the Minor
Stones across Dereth and locked the Major Stone away in deadly vaults. You
can find out more backgroup in
Atlan's
Treatise and
Asheron's
Decree, two books discovered during the Shadows of the Past event.
Major Stones not only
power-up
Atlan Weapons, but they can also be used to provide enhanced AL and
elemental protections to
Shadow Hunter
Armor. The newer
Isparian
Weapons may also be fitted with Atlan Stones.
My Major Shivering
Stone adventures let me witness one of the most hilarious incidents in AC
I have ever seen! After our run from Qalaba'r to the Serac Vault (75.9S,
29.0E), we buffed at the entrance in preparation for the nasty nasties
that would greet us below -- Lich Lords, Revenants, Dark Revenants. If you
can, buff yourself with all 7 protections to brave the onslaught. Be careful
to stay in the initial room when you enter or you'll risk drawing more
Undead to you.
During the
Heart of
Woe event, a second alternative portal to the dungeon at 59.9S 55.0E
was introduced. To reach it, take the Cape
Feirgard Cottages settlement at 32.9N, 59.4E, then take the High Mt.
Valley portal at 26.3N, 63.9E.
Rumor:
Duplicated Portals
Note: The torch shortcut was
removed in the
Hidden
Vein patch. Updated directions are at the bottom.
Once they were dispatched (I admit it! I
waited outside until the coast was clear!), we got our Jump skill buffed
to at least 250 to take the short-cut to the Stone.
There's a small flat stone hump in the
initial room, underneath a wall torch. Stand on the middle of the stone,
aim for the light and do a Shift-Jump. This is a special skill that I, as
a jumping impaired player, needed special training to master. You simply
hold your shift key down, in addition to your space bar, as you perform
the jump.
When you're standing on top of the light,
turn to your left and make a full power jump towards the open hallway in
front of you. Then just head SE across the bridge until you reach the dead
end.
On my first visit to Serac Vault another
group of players joined us. Sadly, one of the members was unable to make
the jump. No amount of buffing would have helped! We suggested that
he recall out, and try another day, only to learn he didn't have Item
magic! As the Undead began to spawn, his terrible predicament dawned on
him and he made frantic requests for an exit portal! Danier jumped back
down and kept the room clear then cast a portal for the hapless fellow.
Instead of jumping through, he asks, "Where does it go??" As a
group, in unison, the rest of us waiting on the bridge above yelled:
"NOT HERE!"
Once you've come to the dead end, do a full
power jump to the open area to your left. You'll see a door ahead to your
right (the stone is in this room), and a pair of levers behind a grilled
door to your immediate left. If you miss this jump, recall out. There are
Revenants below.
The lever closest to you will open the door
to the Stone room. Your best bet, if you're unable to kill them, is to try
to get the Revenants and Dark Revenants to fall into the pit below. Then
simply pick up your Shivering Stone which spawns right on the floor.
You'll also find an Elaborate Scroll which can be translated into the Imperial
Missive. The exit portal is under the bridge area below.
If you want more adventure, Two Lich Lords
spawn in the corridor behind the 2nd gated door in the lever room. They
often stand too far back for a melee fighter to reach them. The 2nd lever
will allow you to open the door.
Serac Vault is also a great place to get
your Thighbone from a High Undead. When you make your initial jumps onto
the bridge, you'll see a corridor to your left. Make a short hop over and
the passage will wind around until you reach a door with Dark Revenants
behind it.
If you're feeling brave and bold (or
foolish, as the case may be!) you can take the long route to the stone.
From the main room, you'll need to jump into a large room full of
boulders. Then work your way back up through the tunnel (only tunnel). My
sources give a Level 60 player a 20-40% chance of surviving!
UPDATE!
Thanks to Godstar of WE for details
Take the second corridor from the entrance room.
You'll wrap around an ice tunnel, then go straight and take the passage
down. To your left you'll see the jump into a cavern like room full of
stalagmite formations. Follow the passage up, over the bridges until you
come to a dead end. Perpendicular to you, you'll see a bridge across from
where you are standing. Jump on it and follow the bridges around until you
come to another dead end. Jump across again and follow the path around until
you come to a wooden bridge. You'll now require either two teams, or a very
fast run skill! ;-)
You are no longer able to flip the switch from the entrance to the stone
room. One person will need to jump onto the button platform over the large
pit, and another person will need to run down and around the ramp to the 2nd
button switches. Push the button to open the door to the stone room, then
run back up before it closes. Be careful! Dark Revenants guard the passage
and it's only wide enough for one person to go through. |
