From The Iron Coast event.

Town Crier tells you, "I hear a new rumor has mysteriously appeared in certain outlying towns. How does a rumor just appear, anyway? You'd think the shopkeeper would notice a piece of paper appearing in his .. err .. inventory."

The initial rumor for the quest can be purchased in Ayan Baqur, Dryreach and in Plateau Village from Avorgild the Shopkeeper.

The Empyrean Temples
There is an old legend about two Empyrean temples -- the Temple of Forgetfulness and the Temple of Enlightenment. It is said that the Temple of Forgetfulness can erase your past mistakes, and that the Temple of Enlightenment can resolve sins of omission. The Temples can't be reached directly, but if you meet the demands of the Temple Guardians, they will let you enter. The Guardians, it is said, live neither in the east nor the west, but far to the north and the south. The legend also says that they like certain ... herbs.

The Temple of Forgetfulness (restricted to levels 25+) allows you to un-train or un-specialize a skill. It is found far to the north at 88.8N, 0.0. To reach it, take the Far Horizon Cottages Settlement Portal from Cragstone at 26.2N, 46.3E. You'll exit at 92.9N, 2.4W, a short run from the guardian who guards the entrance.

To gain passage to the temple, you must get past the Guardian. Double click on the stone head and you'll be asked for the herb which corresponds to the spell word given. (For a list of which herb matches which word of power, visit the Magic Research page or use the table below.)

Guardian of the Temple of Forgetfulness tells you, "I guard the Temple of Forgetfulness. The Temple grants surcease from past mistakes."
Guardian of the Temple of Forgetfulness tells you, "Bring me the essence of [spell word] and I will let you pass."

You give Guardian of the Temple of Forgetfulness [herb].
Guardian of the Temple of Forgetfulness gives you The Temple of Forgetfulness.
Guardian of the Temple gives you A Note From Ciandra.

Guardian of the Temple of Forgetfulness tells you, "Remember -- once you have chosen your path, follow it with conviction."
Guardian of the Temple of Forgetfulness teleports you with Entering the Temple.

You give Guardian of the Temple of Forgetfulness Wormwood.
Guardian of the Temple of Forgetfulness tells you, "That is not what I asked for! Try again!"

When you hand the Guardian the correct herb, you will be handed a book and be portalled into the Temple.

Text: A Note From Ciandra

The entry room is safe. From there, you want to either stay to the left or stay to the right. You'll be jumping down a few levels in order to reach the Inner Sanctum portal. The left-most passage and the right-most passage will allow you to reach these portals. The middle passages will lead to exit portals.

You'll be making a series of small jumps and fighting Golems. The first ledge has two Copper Golems waiting below. After jumping and killing the golems, you'll reach another ledge with two Iron Golems below. The final ledge has two Obsidian Golems. They guard the portal to the Inner Sanctum.

The Inner Sanctum is safe. In each corner, you'll find a row of pillars with Gems of Forgetfulness, one for each skill. When you find the gem which corresponds to the skill you'd like to un-train or un-specialize, double click on it to place it in your inventory. Use the gem to un-train or un-specialize (you will be asked to verify if you are sure) and you'll receive a refund of experience spent.

Visit the Skill Specialization quest write-up for information on how to specialize skills after character creation using Gems of Enlightenment.

There is a 2 week timer before you may pick up another gem of either type.

During The Slumbering Giant event Gems of Lowering were added to pillars in the main room to allow redistribution of attribute points. See the Attribute Redistribution quest for more information.

Note:
From the Letter to the Players:

You will be able to untrain the free skills (Run, Jump, Loyalty, and Magic Defense), but you will not be refunded the skill credits for those skills nor will the skills actually become untrained. You will be refunded all the experience you invested into those skills, however.

You will be able to untrain your racial skills, but you will not be refunded the skill credits for those skills nor will the skills actually become untrained. You will be refunded all the experience you invested into those skills, however.

Although you cannot untrain your Staff skill, you have succeeded in recovering all the experience you had invested in it.

You will not be able to alter a skill in such a way as to cause you to no longer meet a wield requirement for some item that you are currently wielding. You will be asked to remove that item, and then you can attempt to alter your skill again. (Note that you don't have to do the quest again, however.)
