The Elemental Stones were created by Lady Maila, wife of
Lord Atlan of Knorr, to add additional properties to the
weapons
her husband had designed during the battle against the Hopeslayer. After the
defeat of Bael'Zharon, Asheron, tired of bloodletting, scattered the Minor
Stones across Dereth and locked the Major Stone away in deadly vaults. You
can find out more backgroup in
Atlan's
Treatise and
Asheron's
Decree, two books discovered during the Shadows of the Past event.
Major Stones not only
power-up
Atlan Weapons, but they can also be used to provide enhanced AL and
elemental protections to
Shadow Hunter
Armor. The newer
Isparian
Weapons may also be fitted with Atlan Stones.
The Major Smoldering
Stone is found within Jahanna Vault. Before attempting this quest, you
should practice your jumps so that you're familiar with the three basic
types (a great place for jumping practice is the barrel area of the
Artifex
Vault):
1) A full shift jump --
hold the shift key down while jumping forward with a full power bar.
2) Tap jump -- tap the
power bar as you run forward.
3) Full power jump -- Run
forward and release a full power bar.
To reach the Jahanna
Vault, head to the Crater and exit through the "V" near the stone pillars
(65.2N, 10.5E). Watch out for the fire elementals! Run along the edge of the
crater until you reach the Jahanna Vault portal at 66.9N, 15.0E (no level
restriction).

Jahannan Vault
During the
Heart of
Woe event, a second alternative portal to the dungeon at 49.8S, 15.0E
was introduced. To reach it, take the Al-Jalima
portal at from Arwic at 33.6N, 57.1E, then the Mahara Cottages portal at
5.7N, 4.3E.
Rumor:
Duplicated Portals
Inside you'll find
Zofrit Zefirs
(everyone's favorite!), Fire
Elementals,
including Flares, Flammas and Infernos, and
Mountain Rats. Use
a cold weapon and buff against fire attacks, and slashing and piercing for
good measure.
Go through the door at the
entry and take a left at the grate. When you reach your first landing, jump
below (or fall... no special skill required for this one ;-) and take the
stairs to the lowest level.
Kill the Zefirs, then take
your first right up a ramp. You'll be making lefts the rest of the way up;
lefts at the "T", then left at the "T" again by the Mountain Rats, left to
the catwalk, left past the grated door to the edge overlooking the central
vault.
It's time to put your jump
skill to the test! If you're like me, you'll be putting it to the test again
and again and again and again.... ;-) Ahead of you is a platform with a
chain dangling down. Do a full shift jump onto the platform. If you fall,
it's ok; you can run back up (take the hall passage from the bottom instead
of the stairs -- dispel trap there). From the platform, walk east and do a
tap jump into the opening on the north wall.
Head left up the ramp to
the next ledge and do a full shift jump across to a platform. Take the right
passage (heading south) by doing a tap jump into the corridor. Head up the
ramp and make a left at the "T" and stop at the next edge.
Do a full shift jump onto
the platform, then do a full shift jump onto the platform to the east. From
the 2nd platform, do a tap jump into the hall.
Follow the hall up until
you reach the spiral staircase. Be careful! They're guarded by an Inferno.
Take the two sets of stairs up then do a full shift jump south, and a tap
jump south. Head down the corridor until you reach the room with the
wheelbarrows.
If you'd like the lore
from this dungeon, jump down from the wheelbarrow room to the platform below
to the north. Jump down again to the east. The Carefully Printed Note spawns
on the floor near some crates. Head back up to the wheelbarrow room for the
final leg of the adventure.
From the wheelbarrow room
head down the ramp and follow the corridor until you're facing a walled
grate behind a platform. Do a full power jump across. If you fall, there's a
passage that takes you all the way back up to where you should have landed.
From here, take the west passage to the edge of the pit.
Be prepared before you
jump. A group of 5 Zefirs will immediately attack and it's possible the
Inferno and the Flare may also be attracted. The Smoldering Stone spawns on
the floor near the Inferno in the final room. You may pick up a stone every
60 hours (2.5 days).
To wrap things up, head to
Cragstone to have the Carefully Printed Note translated.
You give Bretself the
Translator Carefully Printed Note.
Bretself the Translator tells you, "This is a curious
and alarming little message. It appears to be an archival record of an
earlier message, sent from a garrison town to the royal court of the Empire
of Yalain."
Bretself the Translator gives you Archival Copy.
