The
Soul Fearing Vestibule quest was
introduced during the
Taste
of Twilight event. This
excerpt from the Zone teaser was the only hint players had of its
existence:
"At yet, can it be truly said that all is well? While rest may be taken
in August, there can be no doubt that evil does not sleep long. And what
of that -- of no new dungeons, no new quests? Sheer falsehood, certain
heroes mutter. New tunnels have indeed opened in the ground . . . where
corpses will stack at the hands of the dead already there. Although
unwilling to disclose this supposed dungeon's location, one hero gave
vague reference to a 'mark of three towers'."
After completing a series of dungeons full of undead,
you'll receive a 4 use key which can be used to open chests at the end
full of phat lewt! You'll also receive a Skull of High Acolyte which can
be turned in for xp or used in the
Focusing Stone quest.
The Three Towers are located
at 88.4S, 10.6W on the southern landbridge. To
reach them, you can run directly from Qalaba'r (buff for a Dires run!).
Follow the road to the lifestone at 86.5S, 5.5E. From there, head left to
the beach and follow the shoreline to the next lifestone at 86.9S, 0.7E. A
third lifestone is at the tower itself - 87.7S, 12.2W.
With the addition of
settlement
portals, there are now a few shorter routes to the towers. The
Artifice Cottages settlement portal in Arwic 32.9N, 59.4E drops you at
84.7S, 12.8E and the Land Bridge Villas portal in Qalaba'r at 74.8S, 17.8E
drops you at 87.2S, 3.5E!
The Trigger
Before you enter the dungeon, you have to complete a series of actions to
trigger the gateway. The diagram to the left illustrates this section.
First kill the lich
outside Tower 1 (the middle tower). Its death opens the door to the tower.
Pull the lever at the top to open the door to Tower 2 (the highest on the
hill). Entering the tower triggers spawn of liches and undead. Killing
them opens the door to Tower 3 (the lowest tower). Entering Tower 3
triggers a lich spawn outside. When you kill them, you'll trigger the
spawn of a Lesser
Acolyte. Killing the Acolyte triggers the portal and your gateway to
the Soul Fearing Vestibule!
A Lesser
Acolyte has been summoned nearby.

Part 1
The first section is the easiest and full of
Zombies (Level
17). Throughout all sections as you traverse the corridors, your footsteps
will trigger spawns of various undead. Take the right corridor and press
the button on the wall in the alcove to your right. This opens a door to
the right further down the passage. Directly to the west of this door is a
second locked door. Head up the ramp to a large open room full of zombies
to find the lever.
Note: The doors close
quickly throughout this quest. To be safe, leave a member of your group
outside the locked 2nd door. If you don't get back from pulling the lever
in-time, they can open it from the inside for you.
Once through the 2nd
door head north down the ramp. At the "T" go left, then take an immediate
right again heading north. Ignore the side passages until you hit the next
"T". Take another left, then an immediate right heading north into the
final room. Killing the Lesser Acolyte trigger the portal to the 2nd
section.
Your killing blow nearly
turns the Lesser Acolyte inside-out!
Magic swirls around the acolyte, forming a portal to the next area.
Part 2
Your foes in the second section will be
Skeleton
Captains and Warriors. Again, your footsteps will trigger spawns as you
traverse the passageways. From the entrance head west to the end of the
hall; you'll see a locked door to your right. The button to open this is
down the hallway you just passed on the south wall. Follow it down and to
the west until you cross a bridge. The button is at the end of the
corridor to your right.
Once through the door
head down the ramp. At the "T" make a right then head north up the ramp.
Your next lever is directly across from you in a small room you need to
jump to reach. When you pull the lever (watch out for the magic trap!),
jump down below, then head to the west side of the room. Go down the ramp
and through a door, then through the second door, now open, to your west.
Another Lesser Acolyte awaits in the final room. When you kill it, a
portal to the third section appears.
Your killing blow nearly
turns the Lesser Acolyte inside-out!
Magic swirls around the acolyte, forming a portal to the next area.
Note: if you miss the
jump for the second lever, you can try again by heading down the ramp on
the west wall, then winding back up and around. There's a button on the
wall which opens the door at the top of the ramp.
Part 3
The last dungeon section is full of
Liches. From
the entrance head down the west hallway, then head up the ramp and go
north through a few room until you dead end. Turn right and go through the
door, then head north again up a ramp. Follow the corridor around until
you're once again heading north, this time down a ramp. Make a left, then
another left to reach the button (in an alcove to your right). The door it
unlocks is across from you on the south wall.
Head down the corridor
to the final room where the High Acolyte spawns. When the portal appears
upon its death... stop! First, everyone must loot a Yucky Key from its
corpse and a Skull of High Acolyte.
[Player
Name] plucks
the skull from the High Acolyte.
The High Acolyte spawns
every 5 minutes. While you're waiting, you may encounter an Evil Presence
-- an unseen creature which casts drains and debuffs. When you kill the
Acolyte, the Evil Presence dissipates.
Treasure Room
Once everyone has their key and skull, take the portal to the treasure
room where you'll find four locked chests. Use the Yucky Key (4 uses) on
the chests for fabulous prizes!
Or not.
Of the four chests, two
spawn good items (prized armor and weapons, and high level jewelry or
wands), while the other two are less desirable. You may get some nice
death items, but the general consensus is that they contain: "junk." ;-)
The chests are
randomized every 5 hours or so (the timer on the quest), so if you go with
a group, you'll soon be able to tell which chests are spawning the good
loot without wasting all your key uses. The chest contents are on a 5
minute spawn.
The High Acolyte Skull
can be taken to an Ivory Crafter for a reward of 50,000 experience. Most
people prefer, however, to turn it in to Le-Ai Rae at the Mines of Despair
for both experience (12,000xp) and for keys used in the
Focusing Stone quest.

Skull of High Acolyte |
The
skull of the High Acolyte is covered in moss and green slime. Even so,
it looks pretty unique and is probably worth something to someone.
You can trade this skull in for experience through Ivory Crafters and
it will be shared within your fellowship. |
