The Elemental Stones were created by Lady Maila, wife of Lord Atlan of Knorr,
to add additional properties to the
weapons
her husband had designed during the battle against the Hopeslayer. After the
defeat of Bael'Zharon, Asheron, tired of bloodletting, scattered the Minor
Stones across Dereth and locked the Major Stone away in deadly vaults. You
can find out more backgroup in
Atlan's
Treatise and
Asheron's
Decree, two books discovered during the Shadows of the Past event.
Major Stones not only
power-up
Atlan Weapons, but they can also be used to provide enhanced AL and
elemental protections to
Shadow Hunter
Armor. The newer
Isparian
Weapons may also be fitted with Atlan Stones.
You know what they
say: getting there is half the fun! It's no picnic getting to the
Amperehelion Vault (56.5S, 72.8W), deep in the Direlands, but it's
certainly not boring! You'll have to run from either the Dungeon of
Corpses, Halls of Lost Light, Ayan Baqur, or BSD, etc. If you portal to
the Dungeon of Corpses (46.1S, 49.6W) , take note of the level
restriction: 25+. From there, you'll be heading west through the swamps.
Before heading out, buff, buff buff. Then
buff a little more. And then you might consider buffing just a tad
more. Put your sprinting shoes on, because you won't want to tarry. The
worst of the worst will be on your tail: Virindi, Tusker Slaves, Golems,
Wasps, Drudges, and all the other walking nightmares of our beautiful
Dereth!
The portal entrance is by a windmill.
Whatever you do, don't stop to enjoy the scenery. The area surrounding the
Vault entrance is deadly deadly, often with numerous Diamond Golems,
Tuskers, Wisps and Wasps. Make a beeline for the entrance and jump through
the portal to safety. You'll enter a small room where you can rebuff in
peace before hitting the nasties of the vault. (Don't tell Danier, but I
actually did stop to take a few pics on
the way in! Don't try this at home kids! ;)

During the
Heart of
Woe event, an alternative portal to the dungeon at
35.0N 20.0E
was introduced. To reach it, take the Mountain Ridge portal at 27.9N,
29.5E from Glenden Wood.

Did I mention this is a good place to
rebuff? Most important is Lightning Protection. You'll encounter
Electrical Elementals (all levels) and some Ash Gromnies. Use Acid attack
for best results.
Note: During the
Heart of
Woe event, the creatures in this dungeon were updated. You'll now find
Sable Gromnies (L61) and Voltarcs (L70)
When you're ready, head out of your safe
room and take your first right. You'll fight your first Ash Gromnie on the
way down. At the bottom of the hall, you'll have to make your one and only
jump to the level below (not difficult).
Take the passageway leading back in the
direction you came from and soon you'll be coming to the first of 4 large
rooms. Along the way, you'll encounter some Statics, Scintillas and Ash
Gromnies. The larger chambers may contain an occasional Astyrrian, so hang
back at the entrance and let your high level mages clear the way. Some
corridors will also have chains hanging from the ceiling that may impede
your progress.
Each larger room has several exits. From
the first, take the West exit, left branch. From the second, take the
North exit, left branch. The third is West again (left branch), and you'll
need to make a left over a bridge to reach the fourth room. Take the West
exit again from the 4th room, left branch.
After you've made it through the large
series of rooms, you'll come to a maze-like area. Be careful here; it's
easy to become hopelessly lost. When you've gone through the fourth room
and down the ramp, you'll come to a T. Take a right. At the end of the
hall, make a right again. You'll then come to a multi-choice intersection.
Take the left most passage, and it will lead you right down to the room
with the Sparking Stone.
A few Ash Gromnies bar the way, and inside
there are numerous Elementals waiting to kill you -- a few Statics, Scintillas and
an Astyrrian! They'll begin jumping down from ledges above you, so try and
take them out from the doorway before heading in. The Sparking Stone
itself spawns right on the floor among several other (valuable) gems. The
stones are on a 25 second respawn. There's a quest timer on the Major
Sparking Stone, so you can only retrieve one every couple of days. The
creatures spawn approximately every 15 minutes, so there should be plenty
of time for everyone to get their stone.
Don't go out the way you came in! Recall
