Quests

Introduced in Dark Majesty.

Tessarae are small tiles of glass found on the Olthoi Brood Nobles which spawn during the Olthoi Queen quest. They can be given to the Tah of Timaru, Aun Hareltah, at 44.2N, 78.0W for an increase of one point to the skill imprinted on the tessera. (You must be level 35+ to access the Plateau on Marae Lassel.)

Each character may turn in only 5 tesserae per lifetime, so choose carefully! These are especially valuable to players whose skills require many millions of experience to raise. Tesserae may be given away or traded with other players.

Brood Nobles only spawn during the Queen's quest and only after several other lower level Olthoi spawns are triggered. After the bells are turned in, a global message appears:

The Olthoi in the [region] of Marae have begun to swarm!

The first swarm will be Level 70 Olthoi Soldiers and Olthoi Workers. When you kill the leader (an unmarked Soldier), the rest of the swarm dies and an even larger, more dangerous swarm of Eviscerators and Legionaries will appear.

An unmarked Olthoi Eviscerator (Level 75) will be the trigger for the next swarm. Again, you'll receive a broadcast message, the rest of the swarm dies, and a new spawn appears. This time you'll be fighting Olthoi Nobles (Level 80). Kill them until you trigger the final spawn: the Olthoi Brood Nobles (Level 100).

Brood Nobles are formidable foes! Use bludgeon, piercing or cold to attack and protect yourself against bludgeoning, acid, slashing and piercing. Each Brood Noble swarm will contain several Olthoi that carry tesserae. When a tessera bearing Brood Noble is killed, its offspring will die as well.

You flatten Olthoi Brood Noble's body with the force of your assault!
[Player's name] hews the head from the Brood Noble! The chittering of the swarming Olthoi begins to subside... the danger in the [region] of Marae has been averted.

After you kill the Brood Noble swarm, they will respawn until the Queen is defeated! If the Queen is defeated before the final swarm, sorry, no tesserae for you!

Take your tessara to the Tah of Timaru, Aun Hareltah, at 44.2N, 78.0W for a one point increase in the depicted skill.

You give Aun Hareltah [skill] Tessera.
Aun Hareltah turns the tessera over in his hands, and nods briefly.
He lightly taps your forehead.
You have gained a point of [skill] skill!

Dagger Tessera

A small, squarish piece of glass. This can be turned into the Tah of Timaru for a free one-point boost to your Dagger skill. There are tesserae available for each skill in the game. If you don't want a point of Dagger, trade this tessera for another. You may only turn in five per character - so choose carefully!
