Hello Traveller,

Years ago my older sister disappeared. She had been a girlhood friend of Elysa Starthelar and corresponded with her quite often. I believe the letters Elysa wrote to her are a clue to her whereabouts. I would reward you if you could aid me in this matter. You may find me in the town of Cragstone and I will provide you with the details.

While you're in Cragstone, you can take a minute to speak to Magrom the Red who drops another rumor about the quest.

Magrom the Red, Barkeeper tells you, "Have you been to the Isle of Tears on the lake? It's where Thorsten Cragstone's buried. No disrespect to the dead, but I'd've picked someplace nicer to rest than a dungeon."

Glysander Cartoth is upstairs at 25.7N, 48.5E.

Glysander Cartoth tells you, "Hello, I hope that you are here to help me! My name is Glysander Cartoth. I seek to recover a series of letters that Elysa Strathelar wrote to my older sister, Lania Cartoth. They were friends from childhood on Ispar and they corresponded for some time here in Dereth. One day my sister disappeared. I believe the letters may hold a clue to her disappearance. I will reward you with Experience Points for every letter you bring me. Furthermore, my sister once said something to me that leads me to believe the letters may direct you to items of great worth: Thorsten
Cragstone's Armor or his axe! I know not whether these items are truly attainable but..."
Glysander Cartoth tells you, "There is a man, Brontynn Marshad, who promised to try to track down the letters but I have not heard from him in some time. He was staying in a cottage south of Eastham, near the beach. There is a chest in the cottage inside which he said he would leave letters for me to pick up periodically. I give you the key to the chest, for I am unable to make this journey. Please see if there are letters in the chest and give Brontynn this note, should you find him. This note authorizes Brontynn to give you any letters he may have. Thank you, and best of luck!"

Head to Eastham to look for the cottage (Eastham is a short run from Rithwic). The cottage in located near the shore at 15.3N, 65.7E. Use A Bronze Key on the chest inside to retrieve A Letter of Grief and A tightly scrawled Note.

Text: Correspondence

A Letter of Grief tells us that Elysa, in her sorrow, was unable to bring herself to bury Thorsten's Armor & Axe with the body of the fallen hero. As the second note indicates, head to Imuth Maer Doquin to search for the next letter in this correspondence series.

Imuth Maer Doquin, a point of interest named by the explorer Alatar Locke, is located south of Lytelthorpe at 11.8S, 58.2E. The tower you seek is slightly north at 10.3S, 57.6E and is guarded by Tumeroks. (For a quick shortcut, take the Neu Gerz Villas portal in Lytelthorpe at 2.2N, 50.4E which exits at 7.1S, 56.9E.) Kill the Tumeroks and retrieve a Gate Key from a Gladiator. Use the Key on the Door (resistance 5000) and head to the top of the tower to speak with Brontynn Marshad.

Brontynn Marshad tells you, "Those Tumeroks have me trapped here. I am glad their number has been dealt a severe blow!"
You give Brontynn Marshad A Certificate of Permission.
Brontynn Marshad tells you, "Thank you for liberating me! I hope you are not injured! I see Glysander has sent you. I know he is anxious to recover the letters but alas, I cannot continue this quest now."
Brontynn Marshad tells you, "Here are two letters I have found. I can tell you where to find another letter, or its exact copy. Find Lia Tze in Baishi. She has a letter in her possession, and I was informed she might have a means for you to obtain a replica of Thorsten Cragstone's Armor. Or you may go to Tou-Tou and seek out a man named Tai Wo. He has a copy of the same letter Lia Tze has and may have knowledge of how to obtain a replica of Thorsten Cragstone's Axe. But beware- do not go to both of these people, for there is bad blood between them! Choose only one of them, for they will not deal with anyone who has had contact with the other. Now I will rest here for a bit and return home. Farewell!"

Lia Tze in Baishi (49.4S, 62.4E) will help you get the Armor; Tai Wo in Tou-Tou returns the Axe. The Armor cannot be work, but makes an impressive item to display in your home.

From Shortcuts: To get to Baishi, take the Subway portal (in the bottom of Arwic's Abandoned Mine) to Mayoi. Run a short distance to A Ruin 62.6S, 81.4E. Once inside, stay to the left until you come to a ramp. Go down the ramp and then turn right. The Baishi portal is straight ahead. (Inside A Ruin are Black and White Rats; Mudlurk, Barker and Shaman Mosswarts; and one Water Wisp.)

Lia Tze tells you, "Ah, yes, Brontynn Marshad sent you. Here is the letter I intended to give him. I came across it a long time ago, I remember not where. It seems to offer a clue to where Thorsten Cragstone's Armor was hidden."

Lia Tze tells you, "If you seek it and find it, I doubt you can remove the armor. Nor should you. However, I have also give you a quantity of was with which you may make a mould of the armor. Bring me the mould with the impression of the armor and I will give you a fine replica of the armor which will serve as an exquisite decorative item. Go with care!"

Underground City
As Elysa's earlier letters suggest, and as Magrom the Red has mentioned, Thorsten's Tomb lies on the Isle of Tears, in the Underground City. To reach the City, you can take a portal directly from the Subway in Arwic (at the bottom of the Abaondoned Mine), or you take the Isle of Tears portal from Cragstone at 25.2N, 49.9E and run to the entrance at 21.3N, 53.9E (no level restrictions). You'll encounter low level Mosswarts, Drudges and Rats.

When you enter, go to the small room in the center and head up the stairs [7 on map]. Go across the bridge then make a right heading north. Take the ramp up and make right up the set of stairs heading east [17 on map]. Go left (north) through another door, then straight down the hallway to Thorsten Cragstone's Tomb. If you don't have lockpick and want to enter the Tomb, you can get the Beautiful Key from the top of a tower [24 on map]. Thorsten's power is still in evidence; use the Tomb and it will cast Heal Other III on you.

Hidden Dungeon
The secret passage to the dungeon underneath the city is on the North wall, just left of the ramp.Follow the hallway to the Hidden dungeon Portal (no level restrictions).

The entrance is safe. Further in you'll find Golems: Sandstone, Iron, Copper, Granite and Obsidian; plus Liches and Lich Lords. Begin by taking the first left at the split. Head through a large open room with Golems, then exit the room to the north. At the next intersection, take the right passage and find the lever at the end. You'll pass a few Liches in the hall, the 2 Granite and 2 Copper Golems.

Pull the lever then go back to the split and take the left passage (heading north). When you reach the square room appearing to the be a 4-way intersection, take the east corridor. Make a right at the split then continue through the open rooms and through the door.

Your second lever is just around the corner to the left at the split. Pull the lever then head east down the ramp.

Go east out of the room then curve around heading south. Go straight until you reach a ramp. At the bottom make an immediate right heading west. At the four way intersection go south down the ramp. Take either path at the split, heading south until you reach a large room. Take the west exit, then make your next left, once again going south. Keep heading south and you'll reach the room with Thorsten Cragstone's Armor and Axe, bathed in disco lights.

In your excitement, you may not have noticed that the skeleton remains you stumbled over on the way in are all that's left of Elysa's girlhood friend, Lanie Cartoth. Retrieve the final letter from her corpse for extra experience from Glysander Cartoth.

Use the wax on either the Armor or the Axe to make your mould then return to Baishi for your Armor or Tou-Tou for the Axe.
