Map: Artifex Vault - 26.5N, 45.8W
Text: Maila's Journal

The Stone Tool, found in the north Direlands in the Artifex Vault, is used to remove Atlan Stones from Atlan Weapons and Shadow Armor.

The Artifex Vault is located at 26.5N, 45.8W (no level restrictions -- cannot be tied to). The easiest route to the Artifex Vault is via the Mirthless Dale Cottages Settlement Portal in Al-Jalima at 33.6N, 57.1E. You'll exit at 23.2N, 42.3W. The Vault is just a short run away, up the slope NW of the drop point.

During the Heart of Woe event, a second alternative portal to the dungeon at 24.5N 8.0E was introduced. To reach it, take the Dovetail Valley Villas portal from Samsur at 0.8S, 18.9E.

Rumor: Duplicated Portals

You'll enter in a safe area at the top of a ramp. Buff for Tumeroks, including Officers, Warriors, Gladiators, High Tumeroks, and High Priests. At the bottom of the ramp you'll see a choice of two passageways. Take either one. They both exit in the same room. Head right and take the narrow passage to the larger open hallway.

To your left is a locked door with a lever behind it. To your right is a long hallway with blue crystals on the floor. Tumeroks perch on a balcony above. Run west down the hall to the far end. Behind a door is a lever with another locked door in the rear. Pull the lever and run back to the east door. It will now be open. This lever opens the door behind the lever on the west end of the hall.

Follow the corridor straight ahead past several intersections until you see a few sofas. Across from the opening is a row of 5 large barrels. Do a small tap jump over to the barrels. You'll then need to jump across the barrels to reach the passage on the wall of the east side of this room. If you fall, don't worry. There is a passage leading back up. Hold down the shift key when jumping from barrel to barrel and use a tap jump to reach the passage at the end.

Take the passage until you reach the edge of a deep pit. If you have a good jump skill and high enough health to take some damage, you can just jump to the bottom. If you're unsure of your agility, you can use the small landing on the walls of the pit to make the journey down in smaller increments. Use your overhead view for better aim. Press the button at the bottom to open the metal door.

Head east past a few intersections until you reach two metal doors, one to your right and one straight ahead. Take the door to the right and follow the passage until you reach a large open room with some Tumerok Gladiators. Kill them and pull the lever in the NE corner.

Exit back to the 4 way intersection outside of the two doors. Backtrack west and take your 2nd left. A door should now be open. Inside is the final lever. Pull it and head back to the Gladiator room. The door on the SE wall will now be open. The Stone Tool spawns approx. every 30 seconds on the floor of this room.

The Stone Tool is no-give. Like the Altan Stones, it may break when used on a weapon; however, it will never break when used on Shadow Armor. There's a 1 week timer on the quest.

In addition to the Stone Tool, you'll also find a book next to the surface portal on the floor of the final room. You can translate it in Cragstone for Maila's Journal.

You give Bretself the Translator A Textbook.

Bretself the Translator tells you, "What beautiful craftsmanship... the blossoms in the paper are still fragrant. Empyrean magic was as subtle as it was powerful. This would seem to be a journal of some sort. A moment, I shall transcribe it into Roulean."
Bertself the Translator gives you A Journal.
