When Marcus the Mole of FF looted Ulgrim's Scroll from a Shallows Devourers during the Festivus event, almost no one believed him! The drop rate was so low that others were unable to duplicate his find. Ulgrim's ramblings in Xarabydun, however, led others to believe this was no hoax!

Ulgrim the Unpleasant tells you, "I was writing spell on this scroll"

Ulgrim the Unpleasant tells you, "And then, like half my scroll was gone... and I was like..."
Ulgrim the Unpleasant tells you, "Unnhh?"
Ulgrim the Unpleasant tells you, "It devoured my spell... was a really good spell and then I had to write it again and I had to do it fast, so it wasn't as good..."

Ulgrim's Scroll
Between the teeth marks and sloppy hand writing this scroll is entirely unreadable, and it smells so foul that you are suddenly overwhelmed with the desire to wash your hands. Why did you pick up this disgusting thing?

When Marcus handed the scroll to Ulgrim the Unpleasant, the mystery remained. Ulgrim claimed to have written it, but while he was drunk! (So what else is new!!) He couldn't find the other half of the scroll.

You allow Ulgrim the Unpleasant to examine your Ulgrim's Scroll.
Ulgrim the Unpleasant tells you, "What's this?"
Ulgrim the Unpleasant tells you, "Hey! This is half of that spell I wrote!"
Ulgrim the Unpleasant tells you, "Kind of gross now though."
Ulgrim the Unpleasant tells you, "That was a really great spell. Wrote it
while I was pretty drunk, but I think it was like good and stuff."
Ulgrim the Unpleasant tells you, "Too bad I can't read much of this. I'll have to look for the other half."
Ulgrim the Unpleasant says, "Anam my good man, keep 'em coming!"
Barkeep Anam says, "Sure Ulgrim, why don't you finish what you have first."
Ulgrim the Unpleasant says, "All done and wanting for more dear barkeep."
Ulgrim the Unpleasant says, "That's the stuff."

During The Hall of the Tusker King, things changed. Other players had discovered the scroll and Ulgrim had managed to find the missing half. When players handed him the scroll, he returned Ulgrim's Recall Scroll!

You give Ulgrim the Unpleasant Ulgrim's Scroll.
Ulgrim the Unpleasant tells you, "What's this?"
Ulgrim the Unpleasant tells you, "Hey! This is half of that spell I wrote!"
Ulgrim the Unpleasant tells you, "Good think I was able to find the other half at my house. Now let's see..."
Ulgrim the Unpleasant tells you, "A little here..."
Ulgrim the Unpleasant tells you, "A little there..."
Ulgrim the Unpleasant tells you, "There good as new... almost. Wow, this is a really good spell. Let me just copy this down..."
Ulgrim crouches and writes the spell on the back of his hand.
Ulgrim the Unpleasant tells you, "Here..."
Ulgrim the Unpleasant gives you Ulgrim's Recall Scroll.
Ulgrim the Unpleasant tells you, "I want you to have it. It won't be all that useful to you I'm afraid, but you never know. Just don't depend on it. I have places to go to."

When Ulgrim hinted that the spell was unreliable, he wasn't kidding! You never knew where you were going to end up form month to month. Initially, the spell took you to the roof of the Smoking Axe Tavern in Ayan Baqur.

During The Slumbering Giant, the scroll became giveable and iIts new drop location became the bar in Nanto!

So Ulgrim's recall puts me in Nanto, right in front of the bar. I figured that there might be some special brew sold there that would get him talking. I was right....

You give Ulgrim the Unpleasant Wah Chon's Winter Lager.
Ulgrim the Unpleasant tells you, "Wah Chon's new brew! It's a bit spicier than what I commonly drink, but it has a wonderful hearty flavor that warms my wintered soul."
Ulgrim tips the stein and drains it in one long draught.
Ulgrim the Unpleasant tells you, "Gasp! Great Mattekar that's tasty! This inspires me to rhyme!"
Ulgrim the Unpleasant tells you, "A larger lager lather is the taste I'd rather gather"
Ulgrim the Unpleasant tells you, "when my lesser lager's suds are in the drink."
Ulgrim the Unpleasant tells you, "Then I mull the flavor over with it's hops and malts and clover"
Ulgrim the Unpleasant tells you, "and again about the pub is what I think."

It's just like Ulgrim to give you a spell that allows you to do his shopping =\

During That Which Is Ours, players would find themselves atop the Obsidian Span!

Next month, during A Perfect Paradox, you'd find him at the Drunken Madman's Tower outside of Baishi. Somewhere during the interim, he must have been doing some serious leveling! He went from Level 18 to Level 50!

You give Ulgrim the Unpleasant Stout.
Ulgrim the Unpleasant tells you, "Thanks! Watch this."
The Drunken Madman sputters as the stout pours down on him.
Ulgrim the Unpleasant tells you, "Bwahahaha! I never get tired of that."

Finally, during A Gathering of Colors, the spell gained some stability!

Whack-a-mole of FF reports:
Ulgrim's Recall now drops you on... *drumroll*... Ulgrim's Island [an island below the southern landbridge] where beer is free in a well outside. No monsters apart from level 1 mice in the basement.

Note: During A Swelling Tide the island became infested with small golems!!

To obtain the scroll for yourself, you'll have to kill your own share of Shallows Devourers, found on the Vesayan Isles. See the Shortcuts page for routes to the Vesayan Isles.

Once you have the scroll, turn it in to Ulgrim at 94.8S, 9.7W for your Recall Spell. Until you have the spell, you'll have to reach the island via the Drunken Madman outside of Baishi at 53.0S, 61.0E. Give him the Winter Lager from the barkeep in Nanto and he'll summon a portal for you.

You give Drunken Madman Wah Chon's Winter Lager.
Drunken Madman tells you, "What's this? It doesn't look like sake."
Drunken Madman tells you, "Not Sake!? NOT Sake! YOU!!! I'll g..."
Drunken Madman tells you, "Oh right, you must want to see Ulgrim. He said people might be looking for him. Ok, I'll portal you there this time, but next time you better bring me sake!"

If you give Ulgrim some Sake, he will portal you back to the Drunken Madman!

You give Ulgrim the Unpleasant Sake.
Ulgrim the Unpleasant tells you, "Ugh! I hate this stuff, but I have a friend who likes it. Maybe you should drop in on him."

He then opened a portal back to the Drunken Madman. Or rather a few feet above the Drunken Madman and I fell and landed on him. Such is Ulgrim's humor =)
