From the
Treaties in
Stone event.
A new NPC appeared in Candeth Keep
and spoke of some undead he found near the south entrance of VoD. These undead
guard the entrance of the Halls of Hizk Ri, the third Blackmire quest dungeon!
Finn Skigg tells you, "Good day! I see that you're an
adventurous sort. So am I, my dear friend! I must admit that I have been in
better spirits than I am at the moment, but the sight of another adventurer
has caused a smile to spread across my face."
Finn Skigg tells you, "You see, I have just finished a jaunt across and all
around Dereth. I managed to make the walk in about eighty days. I've only
recently settled here in the pleasantly arid air of Candeth Keep. I had a
particularly nasty run-in with some foul undead near the southern entrance
of the Valley of Death."
Finn Skigg tells you, "While making my way into a valley, I was accosted by
these foul looking undead beasts. They gave me such a fright that I lost a
collection of rare plates I'd received from Baron Eli von Schreft back on
Ispar. They're priceless, and I would certainly be pleased if someone were
to bring them back to me. If you find them please bring them here."

The teamwork of a fellowship will be
required to complete this quest. This blackmire has three level breaks. The sections are
divided as follows: 60-79, 80-99, 100+. Bring several people for each
level section you are completing. Stock up on Health Elixirs and Dispel
Gems, and bring a Healer's Heart or, Attenuated Awakener. You'll
be fighting Undead and Guruk, so
bring Fire or Slash to fight and a cold weapon.
Timer: 28 days
To reach the Halls of Hizk Ri, pop over
to the VoD lifestone at
48.0S, 65.2W, or take the
Obsidian
Rim portal at 5.5N, 87.5W (take NW dires portal from the Aerlinthe drop).
You'll exit at 48.0S, 65.0W, a short run from the temple.
Halls of Hizk Ri: 51.5S, 67.9W
Levels: 60+

Halls of Hizk Ri Entrance
Jump into the valley and fight the
Imperial Mu-Miyah and
Tormented Attendants that guard the entrance. In each of the four corners at
the top of the ramp, you'll find the plates Finn referred to lying on the floor.
Before jumping into the center pit, pick up the plate in the SE corner
(no timer).
Note: Out of curiosity, Vryce Calimbre of LC
returned the plates to Finn Skigg. He reports:
"He appears to be not all that grateful after all. I brought him his set of lost plates, and he gave me.....nothing.
:) Anyway, the text appears below."
You give Finn Skigg A
Carved Plate.
Finn Skigg tells you, Oh,
thank you! You're most kind.

When you jump down
into the temple, you'll see four pillars, three with plates set in their faces,
and one to the south with a blank setting. Give the plate to the south pillar to
be portalled into the dungeon.
The pillar has what appears to be a setting for a plate of some kind.
You give Pillar A Carved Plate.
As you look about the room the answer comes to you. The plate slides into
place with a click.
If you give the plate to the wrong pillar first, you
may be killed!
You allow Pillar to examine your A Carved Plate.
A plate is already set into this pillar. Perhaps you should try using a
plate on a pillar with a free setting.
A plate rests inside the depression on this pillar. The plate displays an
oddly positioned geometric shape.
You give Pillar A Carved Plate.
As the plate slides into position dread washes over you. Something is
clearly not right. Your palms become sweaty and your vision swims."
You were killed by Pillar!
Pillar casts Soul Dissolution and drains 338 points of your health.
Halls of Hizk Ri Entrance
Only one person in your fellowship should speak to the Guardian in the
entrance
room. You'll be
given a riddle which must be answered to proceed. The rest of your party
should stand by the south wall and wait for the door to be opened.
Guardian tells you, "You have entered the halls of Hizk Ri, the Matron of
Pain. Your presence is unwelcome. You have disturbed a perfect order that has
existed for eons. What right have you to enter these halls, cur?"
Guardian tells you, "Do not answer. Your presence marks a return of the
ancient ways. You shall be tested and if not found wanting, you shall find your
way to the seat of the Matron's power and wake her from her slumber."
Guardian tells you, "I pray that you fail, for power such as Hizk Ri's should
never be loosed upon the world. We have suffered for millennia under her cruel
wiles."
Guardian tells you, "The pillars scattered about the room are devoted to the
bodies that hang in the sky above. A riddle seals their secret and bars entrance
to the halls beyond. I shall issue this riddle after this final warning: return
to me for judgment only when the riddle is solved. If you fail to do so you will
be struck dead where you stand. If you return to me with only half the puzzle
solved you will be struck dead where you stand. You have been warned."
Guardian tells you, "The riddle is as follows: Au, the light of this world,
hangs in the east, opposed to star of portent. To the north, the moon run red
with blood watches its twin in the south. Prove your worth, or die trying."
Four plates lie scattered on the floor with more
pillars nearby. Your job is to give the correct plate to the correct pillar
before returning to the Guardian. The answer is below:
North Pillar - Red Moon
South Pillar - Yellow Moon
East Pillar - Sun
West Pillar - Star
You give Pillar A Carved Plate.
You place the plate into the depression.
You give Pillar A Carved Plate.

You place the plate into the depression.
Once all four plates have been placed, return to the Guardian. When you speak
to it a second time, the door to the south will slide open. Hurry to the door to
catch up with your group!
Guardian tells you, "You may advance through the halls of Hizk Ri, Matron of
Pain. Be warned, you dwell amongst the hopeless and cruel."
Down ramp are three choices of path. Choose the one
that corresponds to your group's level. Follow the hallway and jump into the
pit, then continue to a wide ramp fighting the undead.
Red: 100+ -
Tormented Patriarch
Yellow: 80-99 -
Tormented Consort
Green: 60-79 -
Tormented Attendant
Use the torch on the wall to
open a door at the bottom of the ramp, then use the Guardian inside to be
portalled to the next section.
Guardian teleports you with Well of Tears.
Well of Tears
When you speak to the Guardian at the drop, you'll be instructed to bring
back a phial of bloody tears in order to continue.
Map:
Well of
Tears
Guardian tells you, "Within this well the wayward sister of Hizk Ri was cast
beneath the world and bound by vile arts to suffer for all eternity. The
restless souls, that make this place their home, have tormented the woman's soul
since its imprisonment here."
Guardian tells you, "If you wish to meet Hizk Ri you shall need to garner her
sister's tears for me. You will need to collect them in an ancient philter, lost
somewhere in this crypt. Collect them from the well and return them to me and I
shall then let you pass. Go now and return to me only when you can hand me the
phial of bloody tears."
Below are the different types of
undead found in each section:
Well of Tears - Levels 100+
--Creatures:
Ancient Soul,
Tormented Patriarch
Well of Tears - Levels 80-99
--Creatures:
Restless Soul,
Tormented Consort
Well of Tears - L 60-79
--Creatures:
Crypt Spirit,
Tormented Attendant
To reach the Phial, take the north
passage and head up a ramp. The Ancient Enchanted Philter is a small blue bottle
lying on the ground beside a table. Once you have the phial, continue down the
passage, keeping to your right. After you go down three ramps, keep to your left
until you reach the room with the Well of Tears, a stone structure full of
blood. The eerie sound of a woman crying can be heard in the air. Use the phial
on the well to fill it with tears.
As you dip the philter into the well it fills with blood tears.
Once everyone has the phial filled, run as fast as you can back
the Guardian to avoid the respawn. Give the phial to the Guardian (one at a time
as a precaution) to be portalled to the jumping section.
You give Guardian A Phial of Bloody Tears.
Guardian tells you, "You have pleased me. I will sup upon the tears of her
soul this night and be sated for a time. Prepare for your reward."
Halls of Hizk Ri - Jumping Section
Map:
Jumping
Section
This is the most challenging section of the quest,
especially if you're chronically jumping impaired, as I am! You will need to
jump from platform to platform, using four eyes that are mounted on the walls.
The eyes glow with red, yellow and green hues. Each level section will use
different eyes corresponding to the door they first entered: red for 100+,
yellow for 80-99 and green for 60-79. As you use the eyes, you'll receive a
debuff spell.
If your jump skill ranges from 330 - 430, you will be
able to make your way around the room by using full, 1/2 and 1/4 shift jumps
(keep the shift key held down for the entirety of the jump). Start to the right
as you enter and work your way around, jumping to the platform behind the
strange device after the first two eyes to get to the other side of the room.
One of the debuffs, Chained to the Wall, is a jumping debuff! Use a dispel gem
before continuing! Once you've used all four eyes, you'll be flagged to use the
Strange Device. (To get back to the platform, you may need to use a full power
jump, aiming for the back wall.)
The eye stirs and you feel changed.

Eye of the Watcher cast Chained to the Wall on you
You cast Eradicate All Magic Self on yourself and dispel: Chained to the
Wall.
The eye stirs and you feel changed.
Eye of the Watcher cast Biting Bonds on you
If you fall, and it's likely someone in your party will
(especially if you're questing with me!), you'll need to quickly run to the
south, dodging the flying daggers from the Wailing Statues! To get back up to
the jump start, you'll have to fight your way through the tormented undead. Jump
into the pit then head up the east ramp.
Make the first right, then an immediate left up another ramp. Take the
west passage from the next room and use the button to open the door. From here
there's only one route to the top. The final door is guarded by a wailing statue.
Be careful as you use the button on wall to pass through.
A loud hum fills the room and for a moment you feel waves of mana washing
over your body. You are certain that something has changed.
Hizk Ri Sewers
Map:
Hizk Ri Sewers
The sewer section is full of
Guruk, so pull out your frost weapon! Below are the different types of
Guruk found in each section:
Hizk Ri Sewers - Levels 100+
--Creatures:
Guruk Colossus,
Guruk Behemoth,
Guruk Gorefiend,
Guruk Titan
Hizk Ri Sewers - Levels 80-99
--Creatures:
Guruk Smasher ,
Guruk Beast,
Guruk Brute,
Guruk
Destroyer,
Guruk Hulk
Hizk Ri Sewers - Levels 60-79
--Creatures: unknown
The virulent air burns your lungs for 7 points of damage!
From the drop you can
keep either left, or right the entire way through to reach the final room. Your
route will be slightly longer than other routes through, but you won't get lost
in the twists and turns. When you reach the final room, use the button on the SW
wall to open the north door. Use the Guardian inside to be portaled to the boss
room. Keep absolutely still as you come out of portal space!
Levels 100+:
Guardian teleports you with
Patriarch Zixki.
Levels 80-99:
Guardian teleports you with Consort Hezhit.
Levels 60-79: unknown
Hizk Ri Boss Room
Map:
Hizk Ri Boss Room
Have everyone stand still as they enter the boss room so you
can coordinate your attack. When you move, undead will spawn and attack. Your
goal is to kill the boss in order to open the door to the Crypt on the north
wall.
The following creatures are found
in each sectioin:
Patriarch Zixki
- Levels 100+
--Creatures:
Tormented Patriarch,
Zixki
Consort Hezhit
- Levels 80-99
--Creatures:
Tormented Consort ,
Hezhit
Unknown Dugeon - Levels 60-79
--Creatures:
Tormented Attendant,
unknown
When everyone has
downloaded the room and is ready, run quickly to the NW hallway to fight in a
controlled setting. The undead will follow you, casting debuffs. Use your dispel
gems or you could find yourself in trouble! When the mob is under control,
return to the large center room to attack the boss. It will randomly portal
throughout the room to escape your attacks. It may also portal some in your
group to one of 8 cells in the corners. If you get portalled to
jail, use the torch inside the cell to open the hall behind you. The undead
trapped down the hall has the key to escape. Be careful! The halls will hit you
with damage unless you walk on the wood baseboards. If you're group is large
enough, simply stay put and have your friend free you when the boss is dead.
Be prepared to have
someone hurry to the north door as soon as the boss dies. The door only stays
open for a short time. Once someone is through, they can open it from the other
side after everyone is free from the cells. At the end of the north hallway is
the final Guardian. Use it to enter the Crypt of Hizk Ri.
Guardian teleports you with Hizk
Ri's Crypt.

Armored Gauntlets and Boots.
Sarcophagus of High Matriarch, Hizk
Ri gives you Ancient Armored Gauntlets.
Sarcophagus of High Matriarch, Hizk Ri gives you Ancient Armored Long Boots.
You may also receive one additional prize, a portal to Izji Qo's Temple, a
Crossbow or Mace, or a fellowship buff scroll. If
you choose one of the fellowship spells, you will receive all four levels of
that spell (4-7), no matter which section of the quest you went on. The weapons,
however, have three different versions. Fellowship scrolls may be given.
Portal to Izji Qo's Temple gives you
Portal to Izji Qo's Temple.
Note: You must remain in the fellowship until you receive both your rewards.
If you are not in a fellowship, you'll receive this message:
You are not able to wrest the rewards from the cold grasp of the matron alone.
If you try and receive another
reward before your timer is up, you will get the following message:
You feel the presence of the High Matriarch watching you and withdraw your hand.
You are not beneath her notice it seems. Perhaps if you wait the cycle of the
moons.
