From A Small Victory.

The Blackmire 4: Kivik Lir's Temple was closed until the defeat of Morgluuk. (See the Noble Weapons quest for details.)

Following are links to more information about the background of the Blackmire quests:

Antius Blackmoor appears
Across the Vast Divide: The Investigation Begins
The Investigation Begins - Part 2
Interview with Rage Lao

This blackmire quest has three level breaks. The sections are divided as follows: 60-79, 80-99, 100+. Bring several people for each level section you are completing. Stock up on Health Elixirs and Dispel Gems, and bring a Healer's Heart or, Attenuated Awakener.  You'll be fighting Burun and Guruk, so bring a cold weapon.

Timer: 1 month

Kivik Lir's Temple - 38.1S, 47.4W
Levels: 60+
Shortcut: Take the hooked portal from the Blackmire 1 quest or take the Dryreach portal from Holtburg at 42.2N, 34.2E, then the E Dires Swamp portal at 8.1S, 74.5E.

Originally inhabited by renegade Lugians and Tumeroks, the temple is now home to massive amounts of Guruk and Burun. The entry to the dungeon is dial-up hell. To make it through the mob, stop nearby at 37.9S, 47.0W, have a few in your party lead the creatures away from the entrance, then run for the east entrance. Jump down into the pit and use the Odd Looking Vine inside.

You fight back a wave of nausea. Before you have the chance to vomit, a force of unknown origin pulls you into portal space.

Map: Kivik Lir's Temple

The drop is hot, but not too dangerous. You'll encounter Burun Ruuk Lout, Burun Ruuk Seer, and Guruk Boor. When you'll speak to the Guardian, you'll be instructed to present a glyph of blood and shadow for entrance into the lyceum, a symbol of the students of Kivik Lir.

Guardian tells you, "The Lady of this temple, Kivik Lir, has deemed it closed to visitors. Only her students may pass through the gates beyond. Should the student present a glyph bearing the union of blood and shadow, the doors of knowledge shall open. Those without the glyph of the Lady Kivik Lir shall be turned away from this temple, for her knowledge is not for you."

Guardian tells you, "Heed my warnings. I shall sup upon your blood and send you from this place should you speak with me again, or should you fail to present the correct glyph."

Each of the four passages from the entry leads to a large open room with an emblem spawning on the floor. The two pieces you need to create the glyph are the Fragment of Solidified Blood found in the East passage and the Fragment of Charred Wood from the West passage (15 minute timer). Combine the two pieces to make the Emblem of Blackened Blood.

You hook the two fragments together, forming a single glyph.

Note: Only speak the Guardian once before handing it your glyph. Otherwise it will kill you!

You give Guardian Emblem of Blackened Blood.
Guardian tells you, "Welcome to the halls of Kivik Lir's temple, child. I will now transport you to the staging area. You will be able to prepare yourself there before continuing further in your training."

Guardian teleports you with Lyceum of Kivik Lir.

Map: Lyceum of Kivik Lir

Once in the Lyceum, you'll see a familiar sight: three Guardians with glowing auras, red for 100+, yellow for 80-99 and green for 60-79. Use the appropriate statue to be portalled to the Haven of Kivik Lir.

As you approach the Guardian, you hear what sounds like Burun on the other side of the wall. Before you can even formulate second thoughts the Guardian pulls you forward into the next area of the temple.
Guardian teleports you with Haven of Kivik Lir.

Haven of Kivik Lir
Below are the different types of creatures found in each section:

Greater Haven of Kivik Lir - Levels 100+
--Creatures:
Burun Ruuk Savage, Burun Ruuk Shaman, Guruk Behemoth, Guruk Colossus, Guruk Gorefiend, Guruk Titan

Haven of Kivik Lir - Levels 80-99
--Creatures:
Burun Ruuk Soothsayer
, Burun Ruuk Fiend, Guruk Hulk, Guruk Brute, Guruk Smasher, Guruk Destroyer

Lesser Haven of Kivik Lir - L 60-79
--Creatures: unknown

When you enter the Haven, you'll see a doorway blocked by a row of statues. To continue, you'll have a choice of two methods: fighting through, or dagger dodging. If you have any dial-up users in your fellowship, you'll want to fight. The fighting method is more time consuming but less risky. Take the south passage from the entrance room and make a right heading west. Hug the left wall until you ascend a ramp into a Burun filled room. Have someone pull the levers on the north wall to open the doors down either the east or west passages. Have a healer go up the ramp first to help the dial up make it past a wailing statue. You'll now be in a room with 4 Eyes and a Strange Device.

If you prefer a life of danger Drachemorder of VT sends these directions through the daggers. First reach the platform above the row of statues by either jumping on top of the statues then shift-jumping to the platform or by jumping from platform to platform around the room. From the platform go through a secret door in the wall. Immediately in front of you are dispel traps. Jump left over them into the hallway.

Watch the pattern of the Wailing Statues. They'll shoot three daggers followed by one dagger. When three daggers go by, follow them heading north. When you reach a T, take a right heading east. Take your second left heading north, then keep to the right up two small ramps, over deadly level 7 vulns and another dispel trap and a wooden bridge. After a short stone passageway you'll see a 2nd bridge. Jump from here to the device area below.

Note: The halls of this dagger section cause continual environmental damage, Virulent Air (10-15 dam) and Harmful Biles (25-75). Keep an eye on your health!

To activate the Strange Device, you need to use the 4 eyes in order then use the device all under 60 seconds. This can be very difficult for dial-up people to complete. They should wait until most of your group has cleared the room before they make their attempt. Start with the NE eye, then go clockwise, hitting the device last. Don't dispel the spells the eyes casts on you before portalling!

The stone eye seems to widen and you feel as though your life has been drained.

If you are too slow, you'll get this response:

The portal remains silent.

Simply try again.

A loud hum fills the room and for a moment you feel waves of mana washing over your body. The room shudders around you and the beacon comes to life, pulling you deeper into the temple of Kivik Lir.

Trials of Kivik Lir - Trial 1

Map: Trials of Kivik Lir

Below are the different types of creatures found in each section:

Trials of Kivik Lir (high) - Levels 100+
--Creatures: unknown - high level Burun and Guruk

Trials of Kivik Lir (mid) - Levels 80-99
--Creatures:
Burun Ruuk Lout, Burun Ruuk Seer, Guruk Boor

Trials of Kivik Lir (low) - Levels 60-79
--Creatures: Burun Ruuk Lout, Burun Ruuk Seer, Guruk Boor

Choose one person from your fellowship to do the trials and flag your group. Dispel and rebuff if necessary before starting. You will have 15 minutes once you use eye in the first trial to complete the three tasks. To begin, have the runner only use the Guardian.

The Guardian of the Trials speaks into your minds.
"Welcome, young initiates. You have found your way beyond the guardians of the Tomb of Kivik Lir. You have done well to reach this point. By the Watcher, you shall awaken the High Matron. But there are still spirits to defeat and still challenges that you must complete to prove your worthiness."
"Within this very hall lie several such challenges. Each must be completed by you within a set period of time. When you have completed all of the tests, and only then, return to me. If you have succeeded, you shall be granted passage deeper into the halls of Kivik Lir's temple."
"Should you fail... then I shall be forced to rid these halls of your presence. Pray to the Iakvi Liviliakti that you do not fail."

If you fail trials, you'll be sent back to start.

The Guardian of the Trials speaks into your minds. "Your efforts were judged as wanting."

To reach the eye in the first trial, head to the south ledge and do a full power jump to the NW. You're aiming for a small ledge to the right of a doorway. You should hit the wall and land on the platform. Go through the doorway to your left and you'll see another small platform on the other side. Stand there to do a second full jump to the NE and the Eye of the Heights. Once you use the eye, your 15 minutes starts.

The Eye of the Heights widens and grants a boon upon your group. From this point, you have fifteen minutes to complete the remaining two trials.
Eye of the Heights cast Kivik Lir's Boon on you

If you fall, watch out for the wailing statues. Head to the north platform and use the lever on the west wall to open the door. Once open, you'll spiral around (take all lefts or all rights), chased by Burun and Guruk, all the way back to where you started. To go through the final door, use the lever in an alcove to your south. Stand backwards and do a small shift jump to drop to the start below.

The runner can choose to stay here while the other trials are being completed. If you runner is doing all the trials, they need to return to the starting platform to begin the 2nd trial. Hop over to the ledge and jump SE to a small walkway (the platform directly to the south is a false platform). Aim for the doorway in front of you and do a 1/4 power shift jump. Go through the room to the ledge on the other side and do a full power jump back to the entry platform. Again, if you fall, run back up.

Trials of Kivik Lir - Trial 2
For the 2nd trial, run down the east passage and use the Eye of the Watcher to the north. You'll be given and Empty Satchel and a riddle.

The Eye of the Watcher shudders for a moment and settles. Without warning, a voice with the sound of metal scraping on metal chimes into your mind.
"The Lady Kivik Lir has a fondness for Sacrificial Urns. In her time, she collected quite a few of them. In the Antechamber, she keeps six stacks of Sacrificial Urns. Within her personal chambers, she keeps three stacks of Sacrificial Urn. And here, in these halls, she keeps five stacks of Sacrificial Urns. If the Lady Kivik Lir were to put them all together, how many stacks would she command?"
Eye of the Watcher gives you Empty Satchel.

The answer to the riddle is one (three stacks of urns combined is one stack). You need to put one bone into the satchel and return it to the eye. Go to the south room and use one of the Offering Urns to get your Brittle Bone. Combine it with the satchel, then hand it to the eye.

You reach into the urn and pull out a charred bone.
Offering Urn gives you Brittle Bone.
You drop the brittle bone into the satchel.
You give Eye of the Watcher Satchel.
The Eye of the Watcher widens and grants a boon upon your group.

Your entire fellow will need to help with the third trial. Go west from the entry room and speak to the Guardian of the Arena.

The Guardian of the Arena speaks into your minds.
"Beyond these walls lie the arenas of Kivik Lir. Within these blood spattered walls, the students of Kivik Lir tested their will against others. Those who were deemed champions were presented a Bloodstone Emblem, symbol of might in combat."
"Those who present a Bloodstone Emblem will be judge worthy and permitted to continue further in the Lady's temple."
"A warning to those who are unworthy, presentation of anything but the Emblem will result in punishment."
"Those who wish to test their mettle against other students should now speak to me once again."

Use the Guardian a 2nd time to be portalled to the Arena.

As you approach the Guardian, you hear what sounds like Burun on the other side of the wall. Before you can even formulate second thoughts the Guardian pulls you forward into the next area of the temple.

Guardian of the Arena teleports you with Arena of Kivik Lir.

Arena of Kivik Lir - Trial 3

Map: Arena of Kivik Lir

Below are the different types of creatures found in each section:

Greater Arena of Kivik Lir - Levels 100+
--Creatures: Burun Ruuk Shaman, Guruk Behemoth, Guruk Titan

Arena of Kivik Lir - Levels 80-99
--Creatures: Burun Ruuk Soothsayer, Guruk Brute, Guruk Destroyer

Lesser Arena of Kivik Lir - Levels 60-79
--Creatures: Unknown

When you arrive, make sure nobody uses the Guardian in the drop room. Go down the hallway to the large room and kill the creatures within. Each one of the three types of creatures drops one of the three emblem pieces. When your runner has all three pieces, combine them and return to the drop point. (You can also create extra emblems and skip this part on a subsequent run-through.)

You fuse the two pieces of the bloodstone together.
You fuse the two pieces of the bloodstone together, forming a red Falatacot Emblem.

Have everyone use the Conveyor of the Arena to return your group to the Guardian of the Arena.

The Conveyor of the Arena speaks into your mind.
"Prepare yourself, for I shall now ferry you back to the master of the trials."
"If you are victorious and wield the Emblem of Victory, present it to the Guardian of the Arena."

Conveyor of the Arena teleports you with Trials of Kivik Lir.

The runner only hands the emblem to the Guardian and flags the entire fellowship.

You give Guardian of the Arena Bloodstone Emblem.
The Guardian of the Arena shudders and grants a boon upon your group.

Note: You can do the three trials in any order. If you do this one first, your 15 minute timer starts after you hand in your emblem.

Once flagged, have the runner speak to the Guardian again to portal your entire group to the next section.

The Guardian of the Trials speaks into your minds.
"You have done well children. You may proceed further towards our sleeping mistress, Kivik Lir."

Guardian of the Trials teleports you with Triumph Against the Trials.

Triumph Against the Trials

Once again, you'll need to use four eyes before using the strange device. Start with the SW eye, then go clockwise. Wait for your entire fellowship to arrive and don't move when you enter.

Make sure you debuff before starting to fight. You'll need to take out the boss burun and then the Barrier to the north to enter the Crypt. From the drop, go up either the east or west hallway and lure the mob from there. Target the boss and concentrate on taking it out. Once the boss is dead, attack the barrier. When the barrier falls, the rest of the creatures in the Gallery will also die! Use the Guardian at the end of the hall to be portalled into the Crypt!

Crypt of Kivik Lir

Map: Crypt of Kivik Lir

As with the other Blackmire quests, use the Sarcophagus first to receive your Ancient Armored Leggings. You'll also receive two debuffs that last a full hour and cannot be dispelled!

Despite your better judgement, you look over the sarcophagus for trinkets.
Sarcophagus of High Matriarch, Kivik Lir tells you, "Defiler! You seek to ruin my slumber and my home? Suffer for your insolence!"

Sarcophagus of High Matriarch, Kivik Lir cast Kivik Lir's Venom on you
Sarcophagus of High Matriarch, Kivik Lir cast Decay on you

Sarcophagus of High Matriarch, Kivik Lir gives you Ancient Armored Leggings.

You may also receive one additional prize, a Manacle of Biting Pain or the Tears of Jvikti Kheval, or a fellowship buff scroll. If you choose one of the fellowship spells, you will receive all four levels of that spell (4-7), no matter which section of the quest you went on. The jewelry, however, has three different versions. Fellowship scrolls may be given.

Tears of Jvikti Kheval gives you Tears of Jvikti Kheval.

If you try and receive another reward before your timer is up, you will get the following message:

You feel the presence of the High Matriarch watching you and withdraw your hand. Perhaps if you wait a full cycle of the moons.
