The Holtburg Starter quests begin with the Holtburg Redoubt quest, then lead to the Brogord's Axe quest. After you turn in your axe to Flinrala Ryndmad, located at the Helm & Shield Tavern (42.2N, 33.8E), she'll direct you to Alfrin, an Aspiring Farmer!

Alfrin has run into a common Dereth problem; those pesky Drudges are stealing his seed! Retrieve his seed bags from the Drudge Hideout and he'll reward you with experience!

Alfrin tells you, "Hello, hello! May I buy you a drink? Oh ... no, I am out of pyreal again. I had forgotten. That is the danger of drowning your troubles, I suppose - you may forget the troubles in the drink, but you forget everything else as well!"
Alfrin tells you, "My troubles? How kind of you to ask. I would be happy to tell you my troubles! You see, I am a farmer ... well, all right ... an aspiring farmer. I just know that I could be a good farmer if I could but get the seed in the ground. But drudges keep stealing my seed!"
Alfrin tells you, "If you could retrieve my seed bags for me - all three of them - and perhaps bring me the head of the dastardly drudge who is behind the theft, I will reward you well. You can find the drudges in their nearby Hideout; Wilomine at the bar has directions."

Before heading to the Hideout, you may want to bind yourself to the Holtburg Lifestone. You can also purchase protective gems from Novideon the Gem Seller and services from the local healer.

There are three seed bags to recover. From the entrance, go through the gate directly in front of you (north). Go east and you'll find a room with a chest and a Bag of Rye Seed.

Go back to the drop point and this time go west, then follow the hallway to the right (north). Turn right (east) when you reach the first room after the hall and go forward 2 rooms to find the Bag of Wheat Seed.

Backtrack one room, then take the north passage into a large room. Take the east passage from the large room, then go south into a small room with a ramp to the east. At the top of the ramp, go west into the room with the Bag of Corn Seed guarded by a Drudge Robber Baron! Kill the Baron and retrieve his head.

Note: The Drudge Hideout also contains a Runed Chest!

Return to Alfrin at the Holtburg Tavern for your reward!

You give Alfrin Bag of Corn Seed.
Alfrin tells you, "My corn! Thank you!"
You've earned 5,000 experience.

You give Alfrin Bag of Wheat Seed.
Alfrin tells you, "My wheat! Thank you!"
You've earned 5,000 experience.

You give Alfrin Robber Baron Head.
Alfrin tells you, "You killed that brute that stole my seed! Thank you so much! You are truly a hero worthy of the name."
You've earned 10,000 experience.

Alfrin tells you, "If you are looking for more adventure friend - and you certainly seem to be good at it - you might want to peruse the rumors that Wilomine has at the bar. Or perhaps you should journey to Shoushi. I hear that there are many good people there who may need your help!"
