From the Treaties in Stone event.

Fanzen San, the Translator in Hebian-to, has been studying the Falatacot. Because he's restricted to the library, he needs help with his research. He's hired the barkeeps on the Vesayan Isles to carry a note for him, delineating his interest in the Moarsmen, which are somehow connected to the Falatcot. Explore the Moars dungeons and gather the items you find. They can be combined into portal gems which lead you to the Sunken Mere, a multi-level Moarsmen dungeon. Retrieve the texts within and return them to Fanzen San for a reward!

A group of 6 is recommended for this quest. You will then be able to make all 5 portal gems with a set of items to spare, just in case of mistakes.

The initial rumor can be purchased from Barkeep Brita the Boisterous in Kryst - (74.3S, 84.3E) or Jerson the Jolly Bakeep in MacNiall's Freehold (74.0S, 92.2E). To reach Kryst, you can take the portal from Shoushi at 33.1S, 72.5E.

Rumor: The Moars

You give Fanzen San the Translator The Moars.
Fanzen San the Translator tells you, "Ah! I see you have found my note. I asked the barkeeps on the Vesayen Islands to distribute it for me. And since you are here, giving this to me, it appears they did what I had asked."
Fanzen San the Translator tells you, "With all that has been happening of late I can't help but be intrigued by all of this Falatacot nonsense. So far we've seen a good deal about the under handed side of their people. But we know there is a lighter side to them. A less cruel side."
Fanzen San the Translator tells you, "We also know that the Moarsmen, the swamp dwelling creatures that were discovered when portals to the Vesayen Islands first opened, have some sort of connection to them. The Adjanites frequently kept them, though we are not exactly certain why."
Fanzen San the Translator tells you, "I would enjoy the opportunity to learn more about them, but I honestly have very little time outside of my translator duties to devote to researching the moarsmen."
Fanzen San the Translator tells you, "I know! Since you are here, would you mind going back to the Vesayen Islands and look for information for me? I can't leave this building, but I can read as much as I want!"

The Moars Dungeons

You will first need to collect the following pieces from the various Moars dungeons on the Vesayan Isles.

--Mud Cave - Labrythine Necklace and an Adjanite Gem
--Moarsmen Muck - Emerald Clasp
--Moarsmen Hideout - Amethyst Cradle
--Moars Labratory - Aquamarine Prisms
--Moarsmen Spawning Grounds - Jade Dias

Mud Cave - 73.1S, 81.3E
--Levels: all
--Map: Mud Cave
--Creatures:
Sallow Moarsman, Pallid Moarsman, Ashen Moarsman
--Items: Labrythine Necklace, Adjanite Gem

The entrance is guarded by Island Armoredillo. Inside, the dungeon is very small and you won't get lost. Head to the lowest level where you'll see three rooms, each with a mosswart statue in the middle. The necklace is in the east room by the bookcase and the gem is in south room, NW corner (3 day timer).

Moarsmen Muck - 77.0S, 90.9E
--Levels: all
--Map: Moarsmen Muck
--Creatures:
Rank Moarsman, Fetid Moarsman, Muculent Moarsman
--Item: Emerald Clasp

To reach the Moarsmen Muck dungeon, run from the Mud Cave. You'll need to cross two landbridges, the first at 76.3S, 83.5E then another at 78.2S, 85.5E. The entrance is guarded by Rank, Fetid and Muculent Moarsmen and you'll be fighting more inside.

Keep to the right from the entrance until you come to a large open room. A ramp down in the center of the floor leads to the lower level. You'll find the Emerald Clasp lying on a table (3 day timer).

Moarsmen Hideout - 69.9S, 89.9E
--Levels: all
--Map: Moarsmen Hideout
--Creatures:
Foul Moarsman, Muculent Moarsman, Disgusting Moarsman, Viscous Moarsman
--Item: Amethyst Cradle

If anyone in your group has a tie to Jungle Sub, you'll save yourself a run to the next few dungeons. From the drop into the Hideout head south until you reach the ledge, then jump to the area below. Two ramps exit from this room and both lead to the same area. On the northern wall, you'll find two rooms side by side, each with a lever in the middle. The initial part of the dungeon is symmetrical, but only one path leads you to the amethyst cradle. Use the east lever to open the door on the east wall.

Follow the passage until you reach a grated floor. A small opening in the grate will allow you to jump down to the level below. You'll see an alcove with a lever just before another locked door (a floor plate just on the other side closes the door).

Head through a large L shaped room and keep to the right until you see another grated floor area. Find the gap and jump below. The amethyst cradle is in the lowest level atop a stone dias (3 day timer).

Moars Laboratory - 68.3S, 94.4E
--Levels: all
--Map: Moarsmen Laboratory
--Creatures:
Miry Moarsman, Putrid Moarsman, Muck Glutton
--Item: Aquamarine Prisms

If anyone in your group has a tie to Jungle Sub, you'll save yourself a run. A heavy spawn of Putrid and Miry Moarsman guard the entrance. Inside you'll also encounter more, as well as Muck Gluttons. From the entrance, head west and jump into the pit. Take the west ramp from the bottom of the pit and follow the corridor until you see a large grated area overlooking a foggy garden below. On the west side of the grate is a gap just large enough to jump down. At the bottom, you'll see a passage to the east. Follow it until you reach a ledge. Across from you is a waterfall with misty spray filling the air. The Aquamarine Prisms are growing nearby. To reach the Prisms, jump diagonally across to the waterfall area (3 day timer).

Moarsmen Spawning Grounds - 69.5S, 96.5E
--Levels: all
--Map: Moarsmen Spawning Grounds
--Creatures:
Mosswart Scavenger, Mosswart Scrounger, Demilich, Elite Revenant, Filth Dweller, Desolation Moarsman, Squalid Moarsman
--Item: Jade Dias

In addition to a few Scroungers and Scavengers, the entrance to the Spawning Grounds is guarded by Shallows Devourers, and Putrid Moarsmen. Once inside, take a right at the drop, then another right at the first intersection heading north. At the four way (the north and east are dead ends), go west and then take an immediate right heading north. When you reach the ramp down, keep to the left until you go down 2 sets of spiral staircases. A deep pit is at the bottom.

From the bottom of the pit, take the west exit and keep to your left. When you reach the large room, take the east exit. You'll go down several ramps to reach the lowest level. The Jade Dias is in the east room at the bottom (3 day timer).

Fanzen San the Translator

Once you have your 6 items (from 5 dungeons), return to Fanzen San in Hebian-To. When he examines your items, you'll receive instructions on their possible uses.

You allow Fanzen San the Translator to examine your Adjanite Gem.
Fanzen San the Translator tells you, "This is a beautiful gem! Where did you say you found it? In a mud cave on the Vesayen Islands? Not surprising that the moarsmen would hoard items."
Fanzen San the Translator tells you, "It looks almost like a portal gem. But there is something odd about it. Look at the sides of the gems. Those holes look like pegs could fit into them. Did you find anything that would fit in your journeys?"
Fanzen San the Translator tells you, "Either way, I can tell this item has some significance. I won't keep it from you, just seeing it was enough to tantalize my imagination. Whether you crush it and open a portal with it now, or hold on to it is wholly up to you."

You allow Fanzen San the Translator to examine your Emerald Clasp.
Fanzen San the Translator tells you, "This is a beautiful looking emerald trinket. How do I know it is made of Emerald? Just because I am cooped up in here doesn't mean I don't know how to use an ust."
Fanzen San the Translator tells you, "This clasp looks like it is hinged, and it has a pair of carved pegs. This was pulled from some muck you say? Others have come by to show me a gem that they recovered that this artifact may very well fit around. I suggest you find one if you can and see if it fits."
Fanzen San the Translator tells you, "Hmmm... as I think about it, this object may also have the makings of an interesting piece of jewelry. If only you had the right kind of string, perhaps you might be able to make it wearable."

You allow Fanzen San the Translator to examine your Amethyst Cradle.
Fanzen San the Translator tells you, "What a remarkable finding! This appears to be a cradle for some sort of item. I recall in my travels of Ispar that the Aluvians would make similar objects to place curious or small decorative statues into."
Fanzen San the Translator tells you, "Several people have visited me recently with an object that could very well be placed in this. They said they made the gem by combining a pair of items they found on the Vesayen Islands. I recommend exploring the islands further if you haven't already."
Fanzen San the Translator tells you, "The stone glows, but it looks very fragile. I wonder if it could be powdered and if the powder could be used to enchant a piece of jewelry. But don't take my word for it. What you do with this artifact is your decision and not mine."

You allow Fanzen San the Translator to examine your Aquamarine Prisms.
Fanzen San the Translator tells you, "I never knew that Aquamarine could be such a prismatic gem. I always thought it was opaque."
Fanzen San the Translator tells you, "None the less, this is an interesting Adjanite Artifact, to be certain. Though I cannot say for certain what it is exactly. My library on the Adjanites is thin in comparison to what I have regarding the Falatacot."
Fanzen San the Translator tells you, "I do recall, though, that some adventurers can come across a device that these gems could be fitted into."
Fanzen San the Translator tells you, "You may want to return to the Vesayen Islands and search for that contraption. If you don't, I found an interesting cutting tool that you could use to break this cluster of prisms from each other."
Fanzen San the Translator tells you, "But what you do is completely up to your decision."
Fanzen San the Translator gives you Onyx Cutting Tool.

You allow Fanzen San the Translator to examine your Jade Dais.
Fanzen San the Translator tells you, "This is an interesting structure. A dais made out of jade! Look at the top of it, there are several indentations. This was likely used as a dais for a statue of some sort."
Fanzen San the Translator tells you, "Now that I think of it, several people have come by with a piece of artwork that may very well fit on top of this. They said they got that item from somewhere on the Vesayen Islands, though they were very secretive about where it was they pulled their treasure from."
Fanzen San the Translator tells you, "Another thing to note is the weight and sound of the dais. It feels very light for being make out of stone, and it sounds like it could be hollow. I see no hinges or doors, perhaps you should take this to Hiro outside of Xarabydun, he may know how to open this casing."
Fanzen San the Translator tells you, "But don't take my word for it. Either keep it or take it to Hiro. The choice is yours."

Sunken Mere

One possible use of your items is to craft portal gems that allow you access to the different levels of the Sunken Mere. Each level has a book that can be translated by Fanzen San for experience. Previously, if you had a jump skill of 480+, you could jump to the different levels of the dungeon. That method is no longer possible and you must use the different portal gems to reach all the books.

Following are the steps to create the different portal gems and information about each level of the Sunken Mere dungeon.

IMPORTANT: When crafting your portal gems, do NOT use the gem on the item. Always use the item on the gem portion.

Sunken Mere - Level 1
--Gem: Adjanite Gem
--Levels: 1+
--Map: Sunken Mere
--Creatures:
Sallow Moarsman, Pallid Moarsman, Ashen Moarsman
--Book: Muddy Tome (3 week timer)

To reach the Muddy Tome, keep to the left all the way through. Be careful not to get too close to the Mud Cave portal located in one of the center rooms! After everyone has their tome, use your next portal gem to reach level 2.

Sunken Mere - Level 2
--Gem: Decorated Adjanite Gem
  (Emerald Clasp + Adjanite Gem)
--Levels: 20+
--Creatures:
Rank Moarsman, Fetid Moarsman, Muculent Moarsman
--Book: Decaying Tome (3 week timer)

You hook the Emerald Clasp atop the Adjanite gem.

From the drop take the ramp down to the north, then jump into the pit. At the first 3 way intersection make a left. At the next intersection, head directly north until you reach a large grated room. Take the north exit from the room then follow the passage all the way to the final room. This section of the dungeon also contains a portal to the Moarsmen Muck.

Sunken Mere - Level 3
--Gem: Entrancing Adjanite Gem
(Amethyst Cradle + (Emerald Clasp + Adjanite Gem))
--Levels: 40+
--Creatures:
Foul Moarsman, Viscous Moarsman, Squalid Moarsman, Disgusting Moarsman
--Book: Filthy Tome (3 week timer)

You seat the Decorated Adjanite Gem within the Amethyst Cradle.

From the drop keep to the right until you reach the grated room. Be careful in this initial section. If you make the wrong turn you can run smack-dab into a portal to the Moarsmen Hideout and waste your gem. When you reach the grated room take the ramp down the south. Keep straight ignoring the side rooms until you reach a large open room. Exit this room to the north then keep left to the final room.

Sunken Mere - Level 4
--Gem: Beholding Adjanite Gem
(Aquamarine Prism + (Amethyst Cradle + (Emerald Clasp + Adjanite Gem)))
--Levels: 60+
--Creatures:
Putrid Moarsman, Muck Glutton, Miry Moarsman
--Book: Rotting Tome (3 week timer)

You arrange the Aquamarine Prisms around the base of the Entrancing Adjanite Gem.

This section is very straightforward. Follow the corridors through to the end and pick up the Rotting Tome in the final room.

Sunken Mere - Level 5
--Gem: Eye of the Depths
(Jade Dias + (Aquamarine Prism + (Amethyst Cradle + (Emerald Clasp + Adjanite Gem))))
--Levels: 80+
--Creatures:
Filth Dweller, Desolation Moarsman, Squalid Moarsman
--Book: Blackened Tome (3 week timer)

You place the Beholding Adjanite Gem on top of the Jade Dais.

Like the previous section, this level of the Sunken Mere is impossible to get lost in. Follow the passage through to the final room and retrieve a Blackened Tome.

Rewards

Return the Tomes to Fanzen San the Translator in Hebian-To and he'll give you an experience reward and a translated piece of lore in return. (Total experience: 5,650,000)

You give Fanzen San the Translator Muddy Tome.
Fanzen San the Translator tells you, "This book appears to be a text regarding the eating habits of the Moarsmen and some creature call the Moars. I am unfamiliar with what the Moar are exactly, but it seems there is some relation between them and the Moarsmen."
Fanzen San the Translator tells you, "Unfortunately, the text is in horrible condition and I am unable to translate it completely. The best I can do is create a summary of the bits I understand."
Fanzen San the Translator tells you, "Since you have helped me further my understanding of the Moarsmen and the Falatacot, I will help you."

Fanzen San the Translator gives you Eating Habits of the Moars.
You've earned 50,000 experience.

You give Fanzen San the Translator Decaying Tome.
Fanzen San the Translator tells you, "This book appears to be a text regarding the hunting habits of the Moarsmen and what seems to be their less advance counterparts, the Moar. The text claims them to be vicious hunters, always on the roam."
Fanzen San the Translator tells you, "The years have not been kind to this text. There are so many pages that I simply cannot comprehend because of their poor condition. The best I can do for this tome is to create a summary of the legible bits."
Fanzen San the Translator tells you, "Since you have helped me further my understanding of the Moarsmen and the Falatacot, I will help you."

Fanzen San the Translator gives you Hunting Habits of the Moars.
You've earned 100,000 experience.

You give Fanzen San the Translator Filthy Tome.
Fanzen San the Translator tells you, "Finally! Something with substance. As much as I enjoyed reading about the Moarsmen, those tomes pale compared to this one. This looks to be a history of the Moarsmen on Dereth. Hmm... this also seems to only be one part of the history. A second tome may contain the conclusion of the account."
Fanzen San the Translator tells you, "Sadly, the pages dissolve as I attempt to read them, so I was only able to construct a high level summary. The finer details of the text were gone before I could transcribe them."
Fanzen San the Translator tells you, "Since you have helped me further my understanding of the Moarsmen and the Falatacot, I will help you."

Fanzen San the Translator gives you History of the Moars on Dereth, Part I.
You've earned 500,000 experience.

You give Fanzen San the Translator Rotting Tome.
Fanzen San the Translator tells you, "Had I not seen the first piece of this text, I would have had difficult understanding the context of it. This is the second part of history of the moarsmen on Dereth. Very interesting indeed."
Fanzen San the Translator tells you, "It is a shame that there were no better reproductions of this tome where ever it was you procured this. I will do my best to summarize it, but the text is very difficult to read through the mud caked pages."
Fanzen San the Translator tells you, "Since you have helped me further my understanding of the Moarsmen and the Falatacot, I will help you."

Fanzen San the Translator gives you History of the Moars on Dereth, Part II.
You've earned 2,000,000 experience.

You give Fanzen San the Translator Blackened Tome.
Fanzen San the Translator tells you, "This is a refreshing change of pace. I have been receiving so many ancient texts that resemble encyclopedias. This appears to be the story of a young Falatacot Priestess and the Falatacot's first encounter with the Moar."
Fanzen San the Translator tells you, "This story seems to be written in a confusing poetic style. Many of the concepts and actions are interposed, which make it difficult for even a scholar to discern. I will do my best to simplify it into a form that we can easily understand."
Fanzen San the Translator tells you, "Since you have helped me further my understanding of the Moarsmen and the Falatacot, I will help you."

Fanzen San the Translator gives you Origin of the Moar.
You've earned 3,000,000 experience.

Text: Eating Habits of the Moars
Text: Hunting Habits of The Moars
Text: History of the Moars on Dereth Part I
Text: History of the Moars on Dereth Part II

Text: Origin of the Moar

The dungeon pieces can also be used for other rewards. If you're group each made one of the 5 portal gems, there will be parts left over for some players. Following are some other rewards that can be crafted.

--When you allowed Fanzen San to examine your Emerald Clasp, he mentioned that if you found the right kind of string, you could make it into wearable jewelry! Use a well-oiled string (see the Composite Bow quest) on the clasp and you'll make a fashionable Adjanite Cameo.

--Sprikle powdered amethyst on the cameo to give it even greater power. First crush the Amethyst Cradle with a mortar and pestle to make Powdered Adjanite Amethyst, then use it on the Cameo to make an Imbued Adjanite Cameo!

You crush the Amethyst Cradle into a fine powder.

--When you allowed Fanzen San to examine your Aquamarine Prisms, he'll hand you an Onyx Cutting Tool. Use the Cutting Tool on the Aquamarine Prisms for 5 Adjanite Mana Stones

The Onyx Cutting Tool manages to separate the Aquamarine cluster into five gems before it shatters under the stress of use.

--Take the Jade Dias to Hiro at Xarabydun and receive an Etheric Seal. Use the Seal on the Dias and it will melt away, revealing an Adjanite Crown!

Hiro, Arcanum Artificer tells you, "No, I do not think I will speak with you."
You allow Hiro, Arcanum Artificer to examine your Jade Dais.
Hiro, Arcanum Artificer tells you, "This is an odd base. Nothing like the other dais I have seen. Nicely detailed, but very light. You say that Fanzen San believes it is hollow? Hmm..."
Hiro, Arcanum Artificer tells you, "After a brief examination of it, I do believe that it is indeed hollow. Here, take this Etheric Seal and use it to open the Dais. I can't imagine what might be inside, so please be careful when you open it."
Hiro, Arcanum Artificer gives you Etheric Seal.
The Etheric Seal dissolves away the exterior of the Jade Dais, revealing a glistening emerald crown within.
