Go to Silyun (quickest route is with Silyun Portal Gem) and talk to Iian di Alduressa at 89.0N, 67.6W.

Iian di Alduressa tells you, "Greetings."
Iian di Alduressa tells you, "If you have the time, I would like you to do a favor for me. I am seeking knowledge on the smithing of unusual armors in this world, and have heard tell of something called "Shadow Armor" that is made using crystal combined with steel. I would like to learn more of this method of armor creation."
Iian di Alduressa tells you, "I have drafted a letter asking for assistance from a Gharu'ndim Master Armorer by the name of Jibril ibn Rashid, who resides near a Life Stone outside of Al-Jalima. Alas, my work here for the Knights keeps me from making such a long journey to deliver this letter myself."
Iian di Alduressa tells you, "If you could deliver this letter for me, and bring back any response given to you, I'd be indebted to you for the kindness you have shown me."
Iian di Alduressa gives you A letter to Jibril ibn Rashid.
Iian di Alduressa tells you, "Bring this letter to Jibril ibn Rashid, outside of Al-Jalima. I will await your return."

Go to Al’Jalima (quickest route is from Arwic drop – Al’Jalima Portal at 33.6N, 57.2E) and give Letter to Jibril ibn Rashid at 7.1N, 3.0E.

You give Jibril ibn Rashid A letter to Jibril ibn Rashid.
Jibril ibn Rashid tells you, "A letter for me?"
Jibril ibn Rashid carefully reads the note.
Jibril ibn Rashid tells you, "Hmmmm..."
Jibril ibn Rashid tells you, "This is both a rare and risky opportunity. The skill of the Alduressa family is renowned through all of Ispar. And, historically, they have served only the royalty of Viamont. For one to be willing to act separate from Varicci is a rare thing indeed."
Jibril ibn Rashid tells you, "Tell me about your meeting with this young Alduressa."
You tell Jibril ibn Rashid about your discussion with Iian di Alduressa.
Jibril ibn Rashid tells you, "Hmmm... It is a risk, but it is a worthy risk, and this young Alduressa seems genuine..."
Jibril ibn Rashid pulls out a massive tome, quickly penning a long note into the front cover.
Jibril ibn Rashid tells you, "Here, take this book to him, and tell him about the note in the cover. Let us hope that we do not come to regret this."

Return to Silyun and give Tome to Iian di Alduressa at 89.0N, 67.6W. Receive 2 texts:

You give Iian di Alduressa Tome on the Metallurgy and Crafting of Shadow Armors.
Iian di Alduressa tells you, "Is this the response?"
You tell Iian di Alduressa about the note in the front of the book.
Iian di Alduressa reads the note carefully, and then quickly skims the tome, stopping at a couple of the illustrations momentarily. A smile slowly grows on his face.
Iian di Alduressa tells you, "Amazing. The manner of crafting the Alloy used in creating these armors is absolutely amazing..."
Iian di Alduressa tells you, "The note placed in the front of this text says I should request samples from the Aluvian and Sho Master Armorers. You have been kind to me once, may I ask your indulgence a second time?"
You say, "yes"
Iian quickly writes out two more letters.
Iian di Alduressa tells you, "Take these letters to the two other Master Armorers. I've named each letter accordingly. Alean the Steel Forger can be found along the road North of Eastham, and Koga Hideki, according to this note, can be found along the lake below the town of Kara."
Iian di Alduressa gives you A letter to Alean the Steel Forger.
Iian di Alduressa tells you, "Bring back whatever response or items they send. Hopefully, they will also see the value of sharing our collective knowledge, and we can better our craft as a whole."
Iian di Alduressa gives you A letter to Koga Hideki.

Go to Eastham (run from Rithwic or use Portal in Umbral Hall) and give Letter to Alean the Steel Forger at 18.5N, 62.8E. Receive a Crystal Shard Sample.

You give Alean the Steel Forger A letter to Alean the Steel Forger.
Alean the Steel Forger tells you, "What is this?"
Alean the Steel Forger carefully reads the note.
Alean the Steel Forger tells you, "Hmmmm..."
Alean the Steel Forger tells you, "Well, a letter like this, I never expected to see. An Alduressa Master Armorer, asking me for aid."
Alean the Steel Forger laughs quietly.
Alean the Steel Forger tells you, "Though, his knowledge really is an asset to all of us, if his words are true. And, Jibril seems to be willing to take the risk..."
Alean the Steel Forger tells you, "Here, take this sample to him, and let's hope for the best."
Alean the Steel Forger gives you Crystal Shard Sample.

Go Kara (quickest route is with Shoushi Portal Gem – Kara Portal at 33.1S, 73.2E (40+) and Give Letter to Koga Hideki at 82.8S, 46.0E. Receive a Shadow Shard Sample.

You give Koga Hideki A letter to Koga Hideki.
Koga Hideki tells you, "A letter?"
Koga Hideki reads the note.
Koga Hideki tells you, "Interesting."
Koga Hideki tells you, "This is quite a risk. If this young Alduressa is lying to gain information, this could go poorly for us."
Koga Hideki seems lost in thought for a moment.
Koga Hideki tells you, "I will trust in Master Jibril's wisdom, take this sample to Master Iian"
Koga Hideki gives you Shadow Shard Sample.

Return to Silyun and give the two Shard Samples to Iian di Alduressa at 89.0N, 67.6W. Receive Xp reward. Get flagged for the next part of the Armor process (assuming next patch).

You give Iian di Alduressa Shadow Shard Sample.
Iian di Alduressa tells you, "So, this is a sample of these "Shadow" Shards."
Iian examines the small shadow shard sample for a moment.
Iian di Alduressa tells you, "Very strange. I've never seen anything like this at all. This came from some sort of creature?"
Iian di Alduressa tells you, "Thank you for bringing me this shadow shard sample. Once I have both samples, I can begin to study the process of alloying these materials into the components for armor."

You give Iian di Alduressa Crystal Shard Sample.
Iian di Alduressa tells you, "So, this is a sample of these Crystal Shards."
Iian examines the small crystal sample for a moment.
Iian di Alduressa tells you, "Very strange. This is very much so unlike anything I've ever seen used in the smithing of armor."
Iian di Alduressa tells you, "Thank you for bringing me this crystal sample. With these two samples, I can begin to study the process of alloying these materials into the components for armor."
Iian di Alduressa tells you, "Please, allow me to reward you for your time and efforts."

When I talked to Iian again after…..

Iian di Alduressa tells you, "Return to me in a month or so, with the Gems needed for crafting Shadow Armors, and I should be able to craft Alduressa Shadow Armor pieces for you."

Timer unknown. It might be a one time only quest – until the whole process is completed. Doesn’t seem to be a level requirement that I know of yet. Got the initial letter with my level 44 toon. Didn’t have time to finish it with him. The quest took 30 minutes with 3 people going thru the process with me taking SS’s, so probably only about a 20 min quest solo with using all the town portal shortcuts.
