April 27, 2001 - New Arrows

Maggie...

I am a level 21 archer and just lifestoned out at Fort Tethena. While I was there I saw a new arrow I had not heard of before.

They were called SOULRENDERER  - did a nice base damage plus they were greater arrows. Well I wanted to buy some just to see what kinda of damage I could wreck on the creatures of Dereth but they were 67,000 pyreals for 100. So I didn't get any.

I was just wondering how the arrows are obtained in a more reasonable manor -- also I was wondering if you could get a nice write up concerning the quest for the barbed fletching tool.

Thanks for your help and the great site you have...

Hi Eleeos -
The Soulrender Arrows are the most powerful of the three types of new arrows that can be received as a reward for Mnemosynes, those little green triangles. You can read more about them on my quest write-up.

As to the quest for the Barbed Fletching Tool, I can only say that it's "on the list." I intend to eventually finish write-ups for whichever quests I've not yet added. I've got a pile of them ready to go up, but I never seem to have enough time! More coming soon. ;-)

Thanks very much for the nice words on the site.

- Maggie the Jackcat

[As an additional note, I'll just mention this to the public at large while I have this opportunity that due to the volume of mail I receive, I am unable to personally send individual emails with quest write-ups!  And you'll have a much better chance of getting an answer to your question if you check the "may publish" button! :-)]

April 27, 2001 - Crystal Tipped Arrows

Hi Maggie,

Let me start off by telling you that your AC Website rocks. You have not only created an informative site, but a really FUN site to visit. I recommend your site to any newbie I come across, and I also recommend it to the veterans who look for in-depth information too! You rule, you rock, you kick ass, YOU ARE AWESOME!

Okay! all this ass kissing aside :) I do need your help. What with the recent addition of the new arrows (Bloodletter, Fleshripper and Soulrender), the Shendolain bow quest becomes more valuable.

However, as I was perusing your quest page, I noticed you never mentioned how to get the crystal tipped arrows! You have the stats on them, but no information on HOW to obtain them. Could you provide some help there? I have an archer vassal who's dying to get the Shen bow, so I will need to find a big group to do this soon. But any info you can post on the arrows would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks for the great website! WE LOVE YOU MAGGIE!

Hi Hasbellah -
You sure know how to get a letter published! ;-) Hee hee. Thanks very much for the effusive praise. I love you too!

The Crystal Tipped arrows don't come cheap. They are made from Crystal Shards!! You can turn them in to the same brother in Uziz that you get the bow from. If you can't stomach the thought, you can also now use the three new types of arrows made from Mnemosynes. Hope that helps!

April 27, 2001 - Level 6 Item & War Scrolls Info

Hiya...

If you at all want to post any info on where to use the Level 6 War & Item scrolls to get Level 7 spells, I found the info:

Essence of Artifice (Item) 86.7S, 10.4E
Essence of Strife (War) 73.4N, 3.0W

Once again, I love your site.. it kicks much tail :)

Alcestis
Leafcull

Hi Alcestis -
Thanks very much for the great info. I was familiar with the two places, but don't think I have it posted anywhere on the site yet. I'll have to think of a place to give it a permanent home.

My vassal has been a frequent visitor to the Essence of Artifice! He traded at Ayan for weeks, collecting SIKs and only SIKs (Sturdy Iron Keys) to get his scrolls. Finally, he got the complete set, but only after a ridiculously steep trade for that Impenetrability VI. Don't ask him what he ended up paying for it, because I think the thought still makes him sick! ;-)

Thanks for the compliments on the site, and thanks again for sending the coords in!

April 27, 2001 - A Strange Obsidian Shard

Dearest Maggie,

I have been long from home, traveling the central desert.  As you know, these lands are overrun with the strangest dolls. Though they seem innocuous, they are anything but...

The other day, I found a strange Obsidian Shard in the packs of one of these Innocent Dolls. It appears to be a chunk of polished volcanic rock. When I study it, there seems to be movement just under the surface. The most eerie thing, however, is that I have felt a strange pressure in the back of my mind since I picked up this item.

I took my find to the Obsidian Enchantress, certain that she could help me identify the source of this stone. Unfortunately, the evil witch kept it for herself, ostensibly for "further study". I've since obtained another of these strange items, but my experiments have been to no avail -- I am unable to use it.

I've considered taking this treasure to a trophy hunter, but fear that he will not reward me for my efforts. I am beginning to distrust the shopkeepers and crafters... could it be that the stone is getting to me?

I write to you for advice and guidance.  Have other travelers found these strange items or have you heard any rumors from the locals near you? My sorrow grows as I search the world for clues, and anxiously await your response, hopeful that you have information that will free me from the shard's allure.

Hello Aspidistra Verte -
Caution is indeed a wise approach when dealing with anything Virindi. One only has to read the chilling tales of Sir Candeth Martine to realize that a gentle tug on one's mind is reason enough to flee in terror!

The Obsidian Shard is not what it seems. First found on a Virindi in the bottom of the Gredaline Consulate 61.5S, 29.6E (Restricted to Level 25+), it was taken to Zaikhal to Diyas al-Yat, the Virindi Translator. The resulting item is a piece of lore: Edicts of the Singularity.

April 27, 2001 - Vitae...And Some Praise For Your Site

Hi Maggie the Jackcat,

I must say that you have a website that is just as addictive as the game itself. =D Bravo.
I've been playing for about three weeks and just recently started reading your website and all I can seem to put together is, "I Love This Place." The way you categorized the site... all the tips and quests... and my current Favorite is the Runway. Glad to see I'm not the only one who likes to look good while keeping Dereth safe. =D

Before I go off on a tangent...

Easter morning I was off hunting in Qalaba'r between The Lugian Oupost and The Lugian Cit when I... how do I phrase this.... Let's just say that after 15 minutes there were several of me in different states of undress laying around the same area. =P I got some help and retrieved all my bodies and was off to the Lugian Outpost to work off My Vitae. Once inside I was ok... but then there I was again 10 minutes later.... Looked like nap time at a Nursery School. My bodies all over the ground looking so peaceful and then *blam* one more for nap time.

I discovered something that I'm not sure your readers may not know. Your Vitae tops out at 40% and that's as high as it gets. You keep losing items and pyreals of course, but you will not get a Vitae of more than 40%... trust me I know. =P I was killed three more times while at 40% and it didn't increase at all. I eventually got everything back... just thought I'd share the information... I'm not sure how many of us have been killed that many
times!

P.S. - Your site helped me to find my friend a wedding dress. Thanks =D

Hi Uling Bayani -
Thank you for the nice words! The Runway has always been very popular. I've simply got to update it more! Thanks for also passing along your hard earned knowledge. ;-) I've never gotten beyond 20% or so myself, but I know my vassal has deep intimate knowledge of the limits of vitae!

Just as an additional note, in case you weren't aware of it, you will eventually stop dropping bodies if you have died too many times in a row. Your loot and pyreal will fall helplessly to the ground. It's a good idea, if you're on a one of these spirals of death, to make sure to retrieve your corpses to avoid further disaster!

April 27, 2001 - Just a Friendly Note

Just wanted to send a note to give my thanks and appreciation for such a great site! Truly kick-ass. If you ever need any info, or help on Harvestgain, or someone to watch die, I am good at that =)! Feel free to give a tell or email.

Thanks again!

April 15, 2001 - Masks

Hi Maggie.
This isn't really fan mail but you can call it fan mail if you want. There's just two questions after reading your awesome website. For Arts and Crafts and in the Mask section. Can heads still be found even though it is not October?

Also can you list the coordinates and the person to give the Virindi Mask to? I would really appreciate it if you could answer my questions. Thx,oh and you website kicks butt!

Hi Darkened-Soul -
I consider any mail which contains nice compliments to be fan mail! So thank you. The only masks currently available are the Virindi Masks and Skeleton Masks (because Skulls are dropped year round). Olthoi Helms are also available year round.

The coordinates to Leopold in Ayan Baqur are 59.2S, 88.3W. I've gone ahead and added them to the page as well. Thanks again.

Hi Two face the second -
At this time, I am unaware of any plans to be married to childofdemons. However, as we all know, Dereth is full of wonders. Who knows what the future will bring! ;-)

April 15, 2001 - Bandit Shield Key

Maggie,

Love your site, it is the absolute best! A guy told me he had the key to the Bandit Shield chest, He, however did not elaborate =)

Do you have any info on this?

Jagged Fel
Frostfell
Level 25 Dagger Master

Hi Jagged Fel -
I *do* have information on this! The guy was lying to you. ;-) As far as I understand it, the Bandit Shield Chest was original love for lock-pick. No key exists. Of course there's always the possibility that he was mistakenly thinking of something else.

Thanks for the compliments on the site. Glad you like it.

April 15, 2001 - Top 100 List

Was looking for your site on the Top 100 list, but it appears to be gone. Do my eyes deceive me?

Hi ty'shor -
No, your eyes don't deceive you at all. I removed my site from the list weeks and weeks ago. But in the future, you can always reach my site from this address: http://www.thejackcat.com/AC  ;-)

April 15, 2001 - Matty Coats

Maggie...

I took my great mattekar hide to Neydissa's Castle and Yi Yo-Jin gave me a regular coat rather than a furry one.  Is there something special I had to do before giving him the hide?

Eleeos
Harvestgain

Hi Eleeos -
Nope, you're on the right track. You can trade in the coat itself for a furry version. Just hand the Mattekar Coat to Yi Yo-Jin. [Disclaimer: I haven't actually done this since the spring patch, but I haven't heard of anyone mentioning that they aren't still available.]

April 15, 2001 - Plzz Maggie, tell me what "All your base are belong to us"

This phrase is really pissing me off. I hear it in game a lot, and I want to know where it came from, and most of all, what it means.  The Virindi said it, people have been saying it for a while, and I think I'm the only one that doesn't understand it.  It is getting on my nerves.

Also, I just want to say that I love your site, and I'm hooked on it.  I check it everyday to see what is new, and what is going on in the game so far.  If you know what the phrase means, plzz e-mail me back.  Thanks=)

Hi Chong -
Believe me, you are not alone! I didn't have a clue, either, so I did a little research to uncover the mystery. It all stems from a hilariously poor English translation of a Japanese Sega Genesis computer game: Zero Wing. Somehow, it just became one of those "things" that took on a life of its own. I've given it a lot of thought (not really ;) and have decided that it simply must be because "WHAT YOU SAY" and  "Somebody set up us the bomb !!" are just so fun to say!

Here's a link that will tell you more than you ever wanted to know about "All your base are belong to us." (Click on the link for the FAQ).

- Maggie the Jackcat

P.S. Thank you or the nice words about my site!
