August 31, 2000 - The experience "Bug" in "New Stuff" Page

Ned has given you more xp than you have earned because those are raw
numbers, unadjusted for your leadership and his loyalty. If both scores were above 100 for the duration of the vassalage, then the numbers displayed would be low. Since we both know that those scores are well below 100... well... it explains the discrepency. Regardless, there DOES seem to be a bug in that the xp listed is not what was earned for the patron in question, but appears to be the xp given to patrons in general over the life of a character. Just thought you would like to know.

Hi Danier -

Thanks for trying to clear up the mystery. I must admit that even with your explanation, I still don't quite understand how the experience works between Vassals and Patrons. Ned Cleversun and I have, of course, an unusual situation, as he is now 18 levels above me. My Leadership stat is still very low, but he has, thanks to your merciless goading (in a completely loving way, of course :) and his high regard for his Patron, continued to beef up his Loyalty whenever possible. I believe right now he is concentrating on increasing his bow stat, to give himself a vitae cushion for his composite bow, so Loyalty has hovered around 125 for quite some time now. I'd love for someone to lay out a really detailed explanation of how experience gets distributed in an allegiance. If you run across one, let me know!

August 31, 2000 - Tremendous Monouga

Hi there Maggie, I have a question about these huge beasts. I heard that you had a dicussion about these with the Turbinites up in ACPG? :)

From what I understand, the Turbinites have mention in the past that they are in game, two of them. And that no on has killed (according to logs.) I'm curious to know though... are they on a landblock reachable by a player?

Oh and btw, you may want to remove the Silver Axe from your Frore's quest page. Frore's chest is also an Uber™ Chest. Along with the quest-reward items that it spawns, it additionally spawns items similarly found to those chests that require an iron key. The Silver Axe was such item and NOT a quest item.

Hi Jabberwocky -
Nice to hear from you again! I did talk with Dave Namerow quite a bit at the ACPL and he dropped lots of hints, tasty tidbits and various and sundry other factoids about the game to me and the rest of the gang. He did say the TM was in the game. However, he did not say where. For all I know, it could be in the game, but not in the game! ;-) Sorry, but I don't know any more than that.

Thanks for the mention on the Silver Axe also. I changed the page to reflect that it was one of the randomly generated items in the chest. Doesn't hurt to leave it up there as a sample!

August 31, 2000 - Lifestone Recall Scroll

Maggie,

A while back I had asked you if there was a place in the Direlands where I could buy the Lifestone Recall Scroll.  Well, I happened to be in the place called Weijong (sp) with my new mage. I could do no damage with him and had run to the upper most part of the shop for safety from the shadow Lt. that had come in to get me.  I found a merchant that sold magical Items and while browsing his wares I came across the Portal Recall Scroll!  I can't remember how much it cost, but there were only two available.  I quickly bought them up for my vassals, since I had learned the spell already.  I came back a few days later and there were two there again.  Maybe this info can help someone if you haven't already discovered this yourself!

Hi Roberto-Eduardo -

Thanks for the info on the scroll! I've actually never been to Weijou myself, but the info will, I'm sure, come in handy to many people. I appreciate you passing it on! Nice to hear from you again.

August 31, 2000 - Lockpicking in the Green Mire Grave

In the Grave you don't need to gather the keys to recover the armor or the yari, IF you have lockpick above 120. I have personally verified this and checked it many times. So if you want to screw up the fun and get there fast before everyone else, simply wait for the wisp to spawn, and rush the chest with your picks ready. But you better hurry 'cause that wisp is a pain when he gets behind and starts picking on you.

Hi Hsaru Iron Fist -

You're right! That would ruin all the fun! :) Although I must admit that I used lock pick to get to the lower level of the West Wing the first time I went to the Grave. As I was heading down, someone already had the door opened, so I just went in, not using my key. Then I died! No problem, I thought. I've still got my handy-dandy key! But when I got back to the door, it was the wrong key! Luckily I was able to pick the lock to recover my body. Of course I then scoured the dungeon and made sure I knew all the ins and outs of the various keys!

August 31, 2000 - That Snowman

Look, I know this is probably rather stupid but is that REALLY a snowman in that picture, and if so, where did you find it?

Trennan

Hi Trennan -

Yes, that's really a Snowman! They actually were all over the place during the Sudden Season. There were Good Snowmen (Level 2) who cast beneficial spells on you, and Bad Snowmen (Level 8)! There was even the dreaded Giant Snowman (Level 26),When you kill them, they sometimes leave carrots and snowballs as loot. Once The Great Work, deep in Frore, was defeated, warmth returned to the land and the snowmen all but disappeared. However, you can still find a few scattered about Dereth.

August 14, 2000 - Ned's Bow Handle

Hey... Ned got it for right at half price.. whaddya want???

Hi Danier!

Oh dear. Obviously my sucking up left something to be desired. Perhaps I didn't convey my immense gratitude for your generosity clearly! I only mentioned that Ned didn't get his new Intricately Carved Dark Revenant Handle for free for two reasons: 1) I didn't want your vassals questioning why you would give away the most valuable item in the game to someone who isn't even in your monarchy; 2) I didn't want other people in the game thinking you had all these spare handles lying around to just give away and pestering you. Ned *knows* you gave him an excellent deal on the handle. As I said, he couldn't be happier! Thanks again, Danier! You're the best!

August 14, 2000 - Ravenous Weapon Skill Check?

Hello Maggie,

Great job on the site!  Quick question.  I'm going on the Ravenous weapon quest with a group of people and I noticed on your site that there's no weapons skill check with the Hollow weapon.  I've seen on other sites that there is a check.  Is there a check with the Ravenous weapon?  I'm currently 29th level and although I won't be able to use the weapon now, I'd like to get it to use it in a few levels from now.  But I don't want to get it if I can fail a skill check (my unbuffed UA skill is 196) and not be able to get another one.  Thanks for your time.

Take care,

Ting
Solclaim

Hi Ting -
The only skill check required is that you have to have the skill trained for your specific weapon. There was a bug previously where Axe users were able to make Ravenous Daggers while Dagger users were not, but it has since been fixed. Good luck! And thanks for the nice words about the site!

August 14, 2000 -
Food (well, chocolate)

And as we know, chocolate is not really food.

Here are some of the items I found when playing with chocolate today. I believe there are two more items. However, I ran out of beans (and patience) so this is it for now. FYI the Chocolate Ice Cream is very hard to make, I succeeded once in three attempts with a cooking skill of 223.

Please wait until after dinner before looking at the attached pictures.

Malleus Eminus

Hi Malleus Eminus -
Thanks once again for the great pics! I love Dark Chocolate. And ice cream. :) I've been compiling the stats and pics of the new foods on the Taste of Twilight page. I appreciate you sending these to me!

August 10, 2000 - Temporary Patronage

Maggie...I have watched this site grow and recommend it to all my followers. We even posted a link on both our newly formed guild sites. I truly think you do a great job (and here it comes) till now! Your offering to even temporarily be a Patron to that one person makes you "seem" to using this site as a way to sway people! Sure you can release later; however, seems to me you lost a small piece of integrity there. It is, however, one humble player's opinion. Otherwise, as I stated, I like the site's Jack Cat touches, but no soliciting through this medium! >:-D

Reeve Sun-Vai

Hi Reeve Sun-Vai -
Obviously you didn't read the letter carefully. And you didn't read my recent letter where I stated that I will not take on any new vassals (I get asked all the time.) That was my SISTER I was responding to. I had already promised her while visiting her on my vacation, when I convinced her to start playing the game, that I would help her get started. In any case, if I did decide to solicit vassals through my allegiance's web site, I would think that would be quite a normal thing to do. I've seen LOTS of other allegiances who have web sites and I certainly don't think less of them at all or think it shows a lack of integrity if they mention their new vassals, or the fact that they accept vassals.

August 5, 2000 - Ravenous Weapons Quest

Dear Maggie --

I recently finished the ravenous sword quest. I have screenshots of the ore, refined ore, etc that you might want.  Just figured I'd ask if you needed it so I could help. Your site's helped me so much it seems like the right thing to do.

Dear ken-shin -

Thank you so much for the pics of the Ravenous Sword and the Ore! I've finally got the quest finished and up on the site. You can find it here! I appreciate you sending the info on to me! Thanks again!

July 31, 2000 - Price Comparision Rates

I visited a site yesterday (well many sites) and I saw a place with a price comparisons. A list of the Different merchants' buying and sell rates (percentage wise). I coulda swore it was your site. If it is, could you please tell me where it is? LOL, I CAN"T FIND IT!!!

Thank you ever so much :O)

Hi Todd -
It's not on my site, but I did mention the Paladins of Asheron in my last newsletter. You might have visited them from this link I gave:

Paladins of Asheron
http://www.paladinsofasheron.org/
Here's another great Allegiance site with an attractive design and good info. They've got a great list of Merchants which includes both the buying and selling rate. This site also includes dungeon maps, portals and lifestones, town information, and other databases. Looks like the only thing they're missing is a link to me! Nicely done.
Hope that's what you were looking for!

July 31, 2000 - More Quests

There are a great many quests that are not listed on your site.... The ones that are listed, are, for lack of a better word...Uber-helpful :)

If at all possible, I would like to see more quests in the quest section, the Neydisa Hauberk, being one. After seeing the elemental protections on it I think it would make great beginner armor (now that mattekar hide coats are harder to get).

I also would like to point out that I would not have been able to complete Frore, and a couple of other quests in the game without your site.

Ed

Hi Ed -
Thanks for writing. Glad you found the quest guides helpful! I do plan to continue putting more quests up in the section. It's really a time constraint issue. With my very busy job, life, the CoD quest section I also maintain, plus trying to squeeze in time to actually PLAY the game, it's not as easy as you'd think to continue to add content regularly. I'll certainly put the Neydisa Hauberk quest on the list! :)

July 31, 2000 - Allegiance Pimps

Hey Sis,
I was playing in AC for less than five minutes, and before I could even get out of that beginning area, I had two different people try to get me to join their allegiance!  How rude is it to just ignore these guys? I could barely move without someone talking to me! I have enough trouble just moving around without having to answer everyone.  They both said, "The first thing you need to do is get a patron! Come with me and I'll help you out." Needless to say, I told them I wanted to try on my own first. Maybe I DO need a patron Hint Hint Hint!! Just wanted a few etiquette pointers.

Verdim

Hey!
Glad you're finally in the game! You will like it! Send me mail and let me know when you're on and I'll meet up with you so you can swear to me temporarily. It will keep you from being bombarded by the "Allegiance Pimps" who hang out trying to recruit the newbies before they know any better. Down the road, if you find an allegiance you'd like to join, I'll release you and you won't have a penalty to reswear. It will save you a lot of hassles, believe me! Ignoring them is fine, or politely blowing them off. Tell then you already have a Patron. You can also squelch them!!

Most people in the game are polite and helpful and nice and deserve the same courtesy; however, there are some behaviors that deserve no mercy. :) I *still* get the "U need a Patron?" when I go to town! I'm afraid I can't resist mocking them, asking why in the world I, a Level 27 player, would swear to some doofus whom I have never met. They are insane.

I'll also help you out with some beginners pointers. I will show you all!

- Maggie
