June 28, 2002 - Elementals
Everywhere!
Dear Maggie,
You probably already know this, but just in case no one has noticed it with
all the new quests, the elementals are out and about in lower level areas. I
took my vassal out to a place near Hebian where I trained when I was lower
level, like ten or so. Well, we're doing fine, until we get to Golems. I
barely manage to heal my vassal in time, because I'm an idiot and am nearly
out of mana. Well, before you know it, I i.d. a creature I've never heard of
before... what the heck's a Mox, I think. I look at it, level 56! Here?!? I
must have been standing too close, or maybe I ran up to see what the heck it
was, but I had forgotten that I'm running around with all my mana consuming
items off... and without the right quarrels.... So, of course I died.
I came
back with lightning quarrels, ready for that darned Mox, and couldn't find
it anywhere. (That Mox must like peek-a-boo.) Later, that same day, I'm
taking my vassal up to the Mossy Fort in Hebian-to, and right there in front
is a scintilla, which I kill with slashing (didn't have acid quarrels with
me). Ok, today I try to take my vassal to the Zombie House in Hebian-to, and
well, I'm off course a little bit... (anyone who knows me knows I'm
directionally challenged). Right there is a nice Scintilla with a
little lightning elemental with it. I think it was called Static or
something similar.
So, if you've already read any other accounts of these surprise party
elementals, that's all good and fine, you can disregard my letter :). If
not, feel free to edit as you see
fit. After all, you're awesome.

Hi Dichroic -
I have, indeed, gotten many letters about the encroaching elementals. I
don't know what's up with that, but I'm sure we'll find out!

P.S. You sound awesome too. Your
vassal is very lucky!
June 28, 2002 - Wedding
Quest Ideas
I am writing to you because I figured it would be most effective. I think the idea of weddings in AC is very nice, but it should have some
additional rewards. I would like to make the
following suggestions:
1) It would be nice if you got a ring some one else could see. Maybe add
something to your title like married bug butcher or slicer and hubby of whomever.
2) A direct chat channel to your spouse. You can talk to your patron or
monarch (whom some have never meet), but not your spouse. Weird!
3) Automatic sharing of spouse's
residence and storage. In RL try keeping
your spouse out of your underwear drawer.
4) A Honeymoon Quest that allows only married couples in would be nice.
Thanks for listening and the space if you print it.

Hi Jassa d'Arpad -
Very cool ideas. But can't you just imagine the yelling and screaming you'd
hear, that
single people were being discriminated against?! Especially for the sharing
storage one. I think they could get away with implementing 1,2 & 4 without
too much outcry, but for number 3... I predict chaos! ;-)

To See Other Women Enthusiasts
In a male dominated game it is nice to see other female characters and other
RL women be as enthusiastic about this game as I have grown to be.
Your site has helped me out of countless situations and has also helped me
get myself into a lot of vitae and fun filled situations too! It has also
helped me learn how dye that special dress that I found with your help.
Thank you so much for making this game a little easier for a n00b to bumble

Dear Maggie,
All I want to ask you is that you put up a better (you with a

Hi Jo the Strong -
I actually *have* been meaning to update my picture for a long time. I'm not
even sure the one up there was taken with my updated video card! The one I
have in mind, however, is one I took months and months and months ago, when I
was dressed entirely in a suit of gorgeous purple Yoroi. The pieces were all
given to me by various players in the game who had tracked me down after
they had read on my site how much I liked it. I still have every
single piece tucked away on my mules. (I'm so sentimental. :) So while I
*do* look perfectly fabulous in a dress, I'm still partial to my kick-ass
purple armor.

Burden Change
Hello Maggie -
As a long time fan of your site, I had always thought it would be neat if I
could help your site out in some way. I'm not sure if this is a bug or if it
was intended, but medium-grade ore refined is no longer 50 burden. When
handed back, it's still 1000 bu. It's been like this since the Isparian
weapons came out.
Use this info any way you'd like!

Coat
Hi Maggie
-
When DM first came out,
I bought a book with it called
"Asheron's Call Dark
Majesty
Official Strategies and
Secrets."
Now this book has been quite useful
to me in learning the game.
Here
is my question. In the
armor section there is a piece of armor listed
that I can't
find any info on. It is called "weaver's coat."
Have you ever heard of
it, and if so can u drop me a line with any info please?
zippo

Level 60 UA/Item/Chef
Hi zippo -
I've never heard of a weaver's coat. I don't think it's in the game right
now. My guess is that it's an item that the Devs planned to add at some
point, but it just didn't make it in.

June 28, 2002 - Into
the Fathomless Chasm
Pcmorris here again. Well, being the action-starved quester that I am, I
brought my friend, Muten Roshisama, with my archer, Morris the Haze, to the
Devex level of the Fathomless Chasm (we did the whole quest in several hours
with nothing but 2 level 29's). Your previous informant probably saw more than
I did, as I didn't see any Frosts until I hit the only real jump in the
entire dungeon. The place was child's play until we hit the jump. The Frosts
and Shivvers like to buff themselves with Fire protection, so my fire arrows
did a bit less damage to them whenever one of them buffed, but I simply
switched to some frog crotch arrows I was carrying (all arrows are greater
only, I didn't manage to hit 230 bow before becoming dangerously close to
being too high).
The last section came up pretty unexpectedly (I was expecting the place to
be quicker than Clough, but not this much quicker), and we came upon the
main Frosts a little unexpectedly. We were pushed back twice to the main
drop (it's a much bigger room than the one you get in Clough), but managed
to clear them all. When the time came to meet the main golem, I realized I
forgot to ask for a focus buff or a monster attunement buff... oh well, at
least I got the golem's name and level.
The sad part of this whole trip was the boss... The Glacial Golem Margrave,
a level 42 golem. I ran up and tried to ID it with no luck. Muten landed an
imperil on it... it walked toward him... I turned... fired a single greater
fire arrow into it's back... and... watched as this golem, who we had spent
5-6 minutes trying to clear dozens of frosts to reach... dropped like a sack
of potatoes in a matter of seconds... from just the one arrow.... I didn't
find out how much health it had, but after being imperiled, a level 29
archer, using greater fire arrows and buffed with level VII's, dropped it in
a single shot.
I know, the place is supposed to be a lot easier than Clough, but mercy...
that was so anti-climatic that I still can't get over it....
I really would like to go back down and get his stats for you, but... having
Muten help to clear all those Frosts and getting nothing else for the effort
seems like such a waste... although if anyone 'else' was with me to pick up
'their' decanters, I'd jump right on it. I really don't think it'd be very
healthy for me to try soloing the dungeon. I would likely be killed by the
frosts before I could get close enough to Margrave for the ID'ing shots (but
apparently I'll have no problem running up to him and wiping the floor with
him to clean them out).

Hi Pcmorris -
As always, excellent info! Thanks very much. When I get to updating the

through the dungeon myself, so I'll try to remember to get a Monster Attunement buff
ahead of time. Thanks again!

in AC2?
Heya Maggie,
First of all, great site. It's a wealth of information and fun, and I
appreciate all the work you put into this. Now that I've said that, I can
thoroughly develop a strong pang of embarrassment when I ask if you'll be
putting even more work into this lovely site of yours by covering AC2 upon
the arrival of beta/retail. So... will you? <embarrassment>.
Thanks again!
Socari II
Harvestgain
Hi Socari II -
Absolutely no reason to feel embarrassed! I get asked this numerous times a
week. Since I haven't addressed the question since February, I figured it
was time to drag it out onto the Letters page again. Previously, I said I
wanted to actually *play* the game before deciding, because, you know, I
need to *like* the game to be willing to devote a chunk of my free time to a
second web site! ;-) However, I fully expect AC2 to be just as fabulously
wonderful as AC has been, so I have been giving it some serious thought.
At this point, I fully intend to do a site for AC2 as well, but other than
formulating some ideas, I've haven't really started work on one yet. I don't
see the need to be one of a gajillion sites re-posting the same news that
every other AC2 site and their brother is posting at this point. When I do
get an AC2 site up and running, I will be looking for people to help me keep
it regularly updated. I expect trying to keep 2 sites current will be more
than I can handle alone!

Even though we have never exchanged words, I

I co-founded and co-artistic direct

old, has been invited to perform in China to represent the United States. I
am trying to get the word out to my fellow players of AC.
Since I have been
playing since 11-99, I feel like a lot of them are family even though we
don't interact personally.
Nebellen, a 501(c)(3) non-profit company, is halfway to its money raising
goal. Any amount would help. If everyone donated a dollar we would surpass
our goal.
Plus, I would love to say in the news interviews that the online community of
AC is more then just a game; it is a supportive community where friendships
and families are strong.

June 28, 2002 - Creatures
and XP Table
I have encountered many undeads and a Lich that are of
different levels than you have listed.
These creatures are all in the Holtburg dungeon. It contains several undead
which are level 15 and a Lich (not a lord) who is level 30.
The Level 15 undeads give 750 xp. I killed the Lich once - but didn't have a
chance to see how much xp I got for him.

Hi MyrDao -
Thanks very much for the info. The Undead levels were updated in-game *ages*
ago, but I just haven't had a chance to get them corrected on the site.
People send me mail ALL THE TIME telling me that the information is
incorrect. But... they seldom include the corrected information! Hahaha.
Therefore, it often has to wait until I have time to research it in-game
myself. I finally went through this evening and updated a dozen or two of
the various creatures from the
Pets section with corrected levels and
stats. Thanks again.

- Yes, He Has Manners!
The other day while doing my usual hunting at Martinate's
Holding (Martine's
home), Martine showed up. You know,
Martine has a bad limp when he walks, and
I sorta feel sorry for the guy. So I came up to him and had a nice chat with
him. Several players tried to kill Martine, but they didn't even have a
chance before Martine one shot them all to the lifestone. Afterwords,
Martine said he was glad to have such respect from an Isparian. He gave me a
small shard, but then said, "I believe you have overstayed your welcome
Isparian, Leave. NOW!" Then I said hello to the lifestone =)

I was sitting around in Qalaba'r around 6:30am CNT time
when Martine poped up. I went
over to him to say hi and he walked off and told us that the Virindi are
over by the meeting hall. We killed them off (I got 2 =) and got
crap for them) and we sat there and talked, along with a few other people. He
said something about Him killing
Asheron and Ced popped off with something like
"not if I have anything to do with it." This Pissed him off,
needless to say. He goes into battle mode and magic yields him and starts shooting out a
weird war spell. After Ced dies the rest of us
say Asheron must die
and kissed his butt.
So I don't think he will attack you if you don't say you are on Asheron's side.
Also if you don't try to attack him.
I hope this helps. (Tell him he Rules

- Beta...?
I heard they sent out the first wave of Beta invitations on the 25th.
No-one I know has got in, but even if they had, they couldn't tell me any
more than "I got in!" (confidentiality rules, y'see.) Still, I was thinking
how cool it would be to know that, say, *my* patron or *my* monarch had been
invited - you know, sort of a status boost :P Anyway, it suddenly occurred
(sp?) to me - NO beta would be complete w/out the Jackcat! If the Devs
weren't smart enough to invite you, random lists or not, then they should be
fired, for the good of AC2! :D So... just so I know whether or not to picket
Turbine or not, you understand... did'ja get in? huh? huh, did'ja? well?

(It would be cool if we could all say that *our* Maggie the Jackcat got in

Sadly, no. I did not get my invite. WAAAAHHHH!!! :) But I am in TOTAL

site is just full of [sic]'s. I know my its from my it's, and raiment from
rainment, and my "this item needs a use string". They NEED me! Plus, for the
last 6 months, I've been sending, by email, a "daily suck-up" to the Devs,
with a cc to Ken Karl, praising their unparalleled coding ability, their
daring vision, artistic integrity, good manners and their personal hygiene.
You'd think, after all, that they'd jump at the chance to have all that free
advertising directed at my 20,000-35,000 unique daily site visitors.
Do you think we should start a letter writing campaign? !! ;-)
