May 24, 2000 - Rumor of the Hoary Mattekar

Greetings Maggie!
I am Morheru, a 24th level warrior on Frostfell. I saw your letter about snowmen possibly returning and hence, the possible return of the infamous Hoary Mattekar. If it does return, I can quickly say that I will be one of the first to start camping for the whole time it's back. But, an interesting little tid-bit reached my ear recently, concerning the location of this wondrous beast -- implying that it CAN STILL BE FOUND! I haven't look into this yet, but perhaps you can help shed some light on the subject.

Mount Esper.....during a snow storm.....after forty kills of a certain creature....a Hoary is rumored to spawn.....only once....every forty kills.....during a snow storm....

Lemme know what you think!

Morheru
Frostfell

Hi Morheru --

I think it sounds like a great rumor, but just that: a rumor. Really, you've seen how long something stays a secret in AC -- about 2 minutes! If there really was a spawning hoary mattekar, that spot would be so camped the world would begin to tip from the weight in that corner! But, it's a nice rumor. I might post your letter and help spread it! Ha.

- Maggie the Jackcat

True, rumors are rumors. But, I want a matty robe so bad, I'm willing to try them all =)

What can I say? The next several selections are included out of pure vanity! :-) Big thanks to all of you.

May 24, 2000 - Fantastic Site!!!! I mean Wowie!!

Yeah, I'm writing to say this has to be the best... THE BEST SITE!! I mean it's great, I love the tourism guide, most other sites just give coords, you also note what towns they're nearby.   This site is fantastic, amazing, great great great!   Plus I love the comedy, the "dangerous fun" in hobbies was hilarious, along with "Maggie's got this snowman by the balls"  this is just a fantastic site!! I LOVE IT!!

May 24, 2000 - Your Site Is Awesome!

Mags,
Your site is awesome!  I have thoroughly enjoyed visiting your site since I first stumbled on it a couple of weeks ago.  It's so wonderful to encounter a site that so seamlessly blends hard game data with heaping doses of roleplaying and rapier wit!   There aren't many sites I journey to just for enjoyment, but this will surely be one for a long while to come.  I'd probably still drop by even if I stopped playing AC for some reason, but with inspiration like this why would I?

May 24, 2000 - Go Maggie Go!

Hello there Maggie, just want to let you know I love your AC web site.  You are right!  It is kick-ass fabulous =)  I found your site today through Asheron's Tips, and I am shock how much useful stuff you got up there.   Your little personal site got more to offer than all those big network sites. Heh heh maybe they are the one that should change their name to hobby site  ^_~   Keep up the good work!  Go Maggie...go Maggie...go.go......Maggie go!

May 17, 2000 - Frosty the Killer Snowman Returns!

The following is an excerpt from a letter from Nandesu Ka. We were heavily in discussion about Mattie Coats. I don't know if the Snowmen were really out of the game or not, but they're certainly here now!

Speaking of Bunny and odd things (the two seem to go together) you'll *never* guess what he ran into this evening.

I'll bet you don't have the stats for what I've enclosed in the picture!
(Gee ... if these guys -Bad Snowmen that is - are making a comeback ... you don't suppose ... Hoary Matties?)

Bunny ... honey ... darling big brother ... wouldn't I look *great* in
a Mattie Robe?

The coordinates for the Folthid Cellar you have in the guide for Dagger of Tikola are wrong: it's 53.7E, not 57.3E....

May 17, 2000 - Dye Pools in the Dires

Hiya again,
I sent you mail earlier asking were I could find the gold yaroi
armor. I'd like to mention that you've got a good site here. I love the part about tourism and such ...adds humor to it.

For the jerk that laughed and wrote the nasty letter....well he's a jerk, enough said!

As for the color coordination thing, I once read a thread somewhere about dye pools in the dires....didn't give a location. ....you got any information on this??

Well just wanted to say you got a great site here.  I've added it to my bookmarks and will be coming here to snoop around.

Kylos (32) or Elgion (22)
Harvestgain

Hiya Kylos!

People ask me all the time where particular stuff comes from, but I don't always know. I always say: Olthoi!! (But really, I have no idea!) One of the things I'm trying to do in the runway section is try to remember to ask people where they got their stuff. So far, the most common answer has been: "Traded for it!" which doesn't help me at all! If I get a good source for gold yoroi, I'll be sure to let you know.

I checked into the dye pool in the dires thing. It's just a big fat lie, a made-up rumor, no such thing. Thanks for all your nice comments on the site!

May 10, 2000 - My Vassal Still Wants a Matty Coat

Hey, Maggie --

I was just reading the MAY 1 letters in your letters section. Fine reader contributions and excellent answers, as usual.

In one of your responses you mention that your vassal (that's me!) is level 33. I am actually level 34, and will become level 35 in less than 200k -- about 2 days from now. And when I am level 35, I will be able to train ITEM!

That's point one. Point 2 is that my loyalty skill is now 100, up from 99. I notice that it is no longer posted on the site. I am bereaved and disconsolate. Or, as Hercule Poirot (Agatha Christies famous mystery slueth, and my favorite character in literature) would say, "I am desolated."

A final detail: A Mattekar Coat for me. Any news or further developments regarding a Mattie Coat for me? I noticed -- again, reading your responses to May 1 letters -- that "My level 33 vassal doesn't even have a matty coat!" Is this an indication that my lack of a Mattie coat has become an accepted situation? Is it now just part of life? Should I let go of the notion and move on? Am I answering my own question? Haha, ok!

- Ned Cleversun, Level 34 Archer/Mage (Life, Item soon)

P.S. Numerous people on Thistledown extend their good wishes and admiration for your fine site.

Hello, Best of Vassals --

What a pleasure it was to see your name pop up in a Letter to Maggie! I will try to address your questions and concerns.

1) The letter stating you were level 33 was an older letter that I am just now getting up. I will make the necessary adjustments! Since I know you have now made Level 35 (Congratulations!! You will love having Item!), I will change the front page and remark that you are now FOURTEEN levels above me. But not for long. I am just inches away from leveling myself!

2) You loyalty level is on the What's New page, although I can move it to the Front page if you think that's better. I adjusted the number to 100 the other day. May I add that it was *several* days ago that I adjusted the total to 100. I've heard rumors that Danier's loyalty stat is 147!

3) I am going to have to BUY you a Matty Coat on eBay. It seems to be the only way! I've hinted and begged, but fame does have its limits! And noone is more deserving than you. I am ashamed of my terrible Patron skills! Must be that 34 Leadership stat; it's the only explanation.

May 10, 2000 - IM-pee-us or im-PIE-us

Your site is awesome!  An excellent use of html to do the pages, easy format, good info.  The best part?  There is information here that doesn't appear on any other site that I know of.  So, well done!  Now on to my question, and it's a small point to be sure:  In the Abreviation and Pronunciation section, shouldn't you add Im-pie-us as pronunciation to the Impious Staff entry?   Both entries are correct (at least according to Merriam-Webster and I know I've always used the 'pie' version personally....)

One last thing, do you want more screenshots of item stats for things you might not have?  If so how would you like them submitted.

Thank you for all your hard work :-)

Pharfig Neugan
Harvestgain
Level 27 Warrior

Hi Pharfig Neugan --

Thanks for the compliments on the site! I like that sort of thing! :) Now about the abbreviation for Impious. Well... you're wrong! Believe me, I was as shocked as you were to find that I've been mispronouncing it all these years.  I was certain (absolutely certain) that Im-pie-us was an alternative pronunciation. But, it's not. I checked my Webster's unabridged (the big enormous fat one), and then checked the mother of all dictionaries, the OED (Oxford English Dictionary). Im-pie-ous was not listed as an alternative. Is that amazing, or what?! I am very much a word person, so it was a blow to me, for sure. I am delicate!

And yes, I'd love shots of things I don't have pics or stats for yet!! If you send screenshots, I prefer non-compressed .jpg format and sent to this email address (my other email address sometimes has trouble with larger files):

thejackcat@xrgaming.net

Thanks! See you in the game!

May 7, 2000 - Cragstone Farms Catering

This is easily the easiest-to-use, most appealing AC site I've found. Nicely done!!!  I'd even say that if I didn't have a question!

OK, so here's the question -- a few weeks back, I found a web site for a group who'd started catering in Dereth -- I saw they were coming soon to Leafcull.  We have a big event coming up that we'd love to have catered, but can't find the site again!!!   Have you heard of it by any chance?

Thanks for your help!

Hi Diermond Cenmad!

Thanks for the compliments on the site! Glad you like it. I believe this is the site you're looking for:

Cragstone Farms Catering

I bookmarked this when I ran across it one day. I think the idea is fantastic! Very clever. I was thinking about getting my vassal a nice gift basket, but I know how that will go. He'll thank me politely, even enthusiastically, all the while secretly resenting me for not getting him a Matty Coat yet!

May 7, 2000 - Nexus Shadow Armor

Hello...

I am interested in any information you may have on the Nexus Gem. I would like to obtain the Nexus Armor but do not know how to go about it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Argon of Frostfell
Honor Above All Else

Great page lass, I'm enjoying it very much. Question: where do you find the nexxus gem and how does it all fit into the shadow armor quests?
Any and all info you have on this would be much appreciated >:)

Haggrim Blackblade
Harvestgain

This was a popular question in the recent email I've received, so I thought this would be good mail to get up in the Letters section. The nexus gem was a one time only quest during the Thorns of the Hopeslayer event. The random portals which kept appearing throughtout Dereth opened into the spires. Once inside, people faced the Shadow Captains and were rewarded with pieces of keys.

There were two keys needed, three parts each, that had to be put together to get into the locked doors of the Nexus. Once there, the heroes vanquished the Nexus Crystal and were rewarded with 4 Scintillating Gems and a Nexus Core Crystal. This Core Crystal could then be made into the Ultimate Shadow Armor. Sorry, only one set per server. I'm still not sure if the keys to get into the Nexus are still available, sort of like Frore after the Great Work was destroyed, but I'll be hoping to clarify this in the near future. I hope that answers your questions. The Stats for the Nexus Armor are listed on my Shadow Armor page.

May 1, 2000 - Where Do You Get That Armor?

I was just wondering where like you got to take those screenshots of those high al armor like al 484 bp. And I was also wondering where I get high base al armor. I already have a mattie coat that's nice and light, but like where do I get those good leggings. And uhh do you know where i could get a gold heume?

Well thanks for the info. Later.

Scowl
Frostfell
Level 13 Mage

Hi Scowl --

You get high based armor by growing big and strong, my young level 13 friend! Geez. My level 33 vassal doesn't even have a matty coat! Or you can get it by having a *very* generous patron.

I get my screenshots from in-game, in general. I ask, "That sure is pretty. Can I try it on, just to see what it looks like?!" Then I ****** away! It helps to have friends in high places. Or people send me stuff. Or I pop onto Ebay to check out what the cool kids have for sale. Or I have my secondary character who has the high appraise skill cruise the shopping circuit. I'd like to be able to say I get it from hunting Olthoi all day long, but that would be a big fat lie! I've never even seen an Olthoi, except in pictures!

- Maggie the Jackcat

P.S. Everyone is looking for good leggings!

May 1, 2000 - Splitpea

Hi Maggie,

Love the site. Your guides to quests are nicely detailed. Anyways, I heard about a program that shows your level 5 and 6 spells with the correct tapers, called splitpea. I was wondering if you had this program or know anything about it. If you have it, I would be ever greteful if you can e-mail it to me.

Hired Sellout

Hi Hired Sellout --

The Splitpea program can be found here: http://cc.xrgaming.net/taper/

It's pretty nifty! It actually uses your existing spell formulas to help you find the tapers for the higher level spells, or at least narrow them down. Hope that helps, and thanks for the compliments!
