Sept  2002 - NO! NOT ELYSA!!!! AAAAAaaahhhh...

Aaahhh!! Elysa can't be hurt! Nnoooooo!!!!! You have to tell us more! What happened? Did she portal away? Is she still there? Did the Harbinger say anything when you fought it? Who else was there (NPCs)? I WANT DETAILS!!!!!

:cast Be Reasonable Self III:

OK, I know that you aren't made up of infinite time, and that laggy things like that are hard to get details of anyway, and this only happened today. So I'm not whining/bitching... I'm just dying of suspense!!! Oh, for the ability to play AC.. Gee, why won't my college let me play PC games for hours on end?? They're so unreasonable :P :D Thanks for running this site, oh magnificent Maggie - you're my only contact w/AC1!!!! You rock!!!! :checks socks: nope, still there... hmm.. well, you still rock!

Agent Blank of FF

Hi Agent Blank -
I'm glad the site is keeping you up to date while you're away from the world of Dereth. Real life can be so intrusive sometimes!! ;-)

Sept  2002 - Huh??

I was looking at the picture called outcast, and I noticed something weird. The Viamont troops were holding.. Guns???

Blade's Edge of LC

Hi Blade's Edge -
Pretty eerie, isn't it? (From the Gallery page.) Personally, I thought they looked like Stormtroopers!! I guess this is just one of AC's little mysteries.

Sept  2002 - Guild Dissolved

Maggie the Jackcat,

I am sorry to inform you that the guild tagged War Angel has dissolved into ruins. Nearly 50 percent of the guild members have merged the remnants with NWA, but I did not. I have joined the Fremen Knights (www.funnylittleman.com/knights) and am happy.

I just thought I would let you know so you can update the you site. Thank you for the exposure; it was nice to be known.

Also, thank you for the site that you do. It has made playing the game completely fun. I appreciate all the hard work you do to keep it current. If you ever need help I would be honored to assist.

Your fellow associate,
War Angel/Colonel Sanders)

Hi War Angel -
Thanks for updating me on your allegiance. Since I started the Monarchies of Dereth section, I've received mail from many of the allegiances I've listed so far, asking me to change this or that, update it, remove so-and-so's comments because they left, and so forth. Because of the natural fluid nature of monarchies, I've been re-thinking the section. It's really impossible for me to keep up with the wok it would take to keep the changes current. Instead, these may simply have to be snapshots in time. And I may make a commitment to update the pages quarterly, or something like that. I'm giving it some thought right now. I figured your letter would be a good chance for me to respond to the letters I've been getting asking about the section. Good luck with your new allegiance!

Sept  2002 - Grads

Maggie, I have to give you Grads. I have been using your site for over a year now and love it. You have a lot of great info here. Its well organized and easy to use. You must be a very smart person.

Thanks for the great site.

Well, I certainly like to think so!! ;-)

I'm glad you like the site. Thanks for taking the time to write! :)

Sept  2002 - Elemental In-Game

Hey Maggie
I absolutely love your site. Anyway, I was reading the Verdict patch page and I noticed at the bottom someone said elementals are no longer in-game. Well, I'm LSed at AB and there seems to be a lot of acid elementals around: Caustics, Miasmas, etc. Was that person just talking about a certain place? Anyway... Love your site

James Arrowswift of SC
Level  55 Deadeye

Hi James Arrowswift -
You're right that there are still some elementals. Certain towns are under attack from special golems, accompanied by elementals. But these are special localized spawns. What people are referring to is that in the previous patch, normal spawns throughout the landscape were replaced by elemental spawns. Where you used to be able to find Mattekars, you would then find Elementals. Want to hunt Lugians outside? Elementals. And so on and so forth. These elemental spawns are gone and creatures have returned to their natural habitats. Hope that clears things up.

Sept  2002 - What If?

I know I sent you an Easter Egg before, (I doubt you remember, but I said if you attack the Oak Drudge in AB an Ascendent Drudge debuffs you; I went back there and it wouldn't happen!!!) but this time it is for REAL. I have screen shots and everything.

The "spots" on cows are really a map of Dereth!!!

Alright, last time I had some crazy theory that asc-drudges were created by whomever made the oak drudges - by putting them inside and waiting for them to go berserk - thus ascending... well, I'm not nuts! I know that isn't true... But, as far as these cows go... ^_^

Do you ever wonder why EVERY SINGLE MONTH something bad seems to happen?! I mean sheesh, it just doesn't get any better; there is ALWAYS something going on -- a new monster or dungeon... I think it is because there is a supreme power orchestrating EVERYTHING...

Think about it. What if we were on the back of a HUGE COW? Wouldn't that explain why bad things always happen? I mean, so that huge cow treats us just like we treat its incarnations!!! I mean, sheesh, cows aren't tied to life stones; they shouldn't just re-appear, yet they do!!! I think that if everyone in the world stopped killing the cows, that there would be world peace!!

Ok, at any rate, there are some screen shots attached.

Borderline of MT

Hi Borderline -
I think one day, I'm simply going to publish a letters section full of some of the crazy, goofy, unintelligible, frightening and just plain weird letters I sometimes get.

Not that your Drudge letter would fall into that category, no siree!!! ;-)

Many people have remarked on the map markings on the cow. But I don't think I've heard the theory that we are all just walking around on the back of a cow. It certainly would be interesting to test it out. Stop killing cows for world peace. I'm sure the ACDEL would approve. Sadly, as long as the poor little cow spawns near the lifestone in Arwic, it is extremely doubtful this could ever happen. ;-)

Sept  2002 - The End of AC?

Hi Maggie,

Lately, I've been hearing numerous hypotheses both in game and on the forums regarding the pending "cataclysm" with Dereth. You know I'm a bit of a lore junky, so here's my thought:

I feel that all three story arcs will converge into one again - The Virindi, Shadow, Olthoi will swarm Human Towns after the defeat of Gaerlan. The only way for us to defeat it is by killing some "crystal" which will kill everyone on the server instantly (cool, huh?). After this, we scurry into the tunnels made by Asheron.

What do you think will cause the downfall and destruction of our cities? What do you think Turbine will do to combine the AC 1 arc into the AC 1.5 Arc (after the Cataclysm) to keep gamers interested?

Thanks!

Nocturne of LC
Level 120 / Battlemage

Hi Nocturn of LC -
Since the cataclysm is still 300 years in the future, a lot could happen between now and then. But as cataclysms and human downfalls go, I think it will be the classic usuals: lust for power, blind ambition, greed, etc. etc. An early Gamespy article speaks a little bit about this in their mention of the fight for shards of power among the different kingdoms of Dereth.

I'd like to see the Olthoi become bigger and badder in the near future, not 300 years hence, and hope the "Olthoi Slayer" properties on the new weapons mean this may happen.

Then again, it could be the mites. ;-)

Sept  2002 - White Rabbit XP

Subject: Hi Maggie -

I love your site.

By the way, the xp you get from the new White Rabbit is exactly 666,000 :)

Yes, that's right: 666K

I saw on your xp chart you needed that info :)

Thanks.

Thanks very much for the info! I've updated the page. Glad you like the site! :)

Sept  2002 - Phantom Weapons Are Useful!

Maggie,

I don't know if it's appeared publicly or not, but fighting on Aerlinthe against Virindi Executors and an Inquisitor, Nuo, also in Alliance with me, had some breaking news for me.

I Have a 318 base Axe, 222 base strength and was fully buffed with VIIs and was still hitting Virindi Executors for 1 or 2 points of damage. Nuo told me that the new Phantom axe, which I had previously considered another vanity quest item, was somewhat effective against them. Indeed it was; I slew my first Inquisitor with no little help from Nuo, hitting for 15 -21 normally and up to 43 on criticals.

Again, maybe others had already known of this, but I sure didn't, maybe the developers aren't total boneheads after all :)

Moradin

Hi Moradin -
Maybe others know which? That Phantom Weapons aren't useless, or the Devs aren't boneheads?

I knew the first already. And frankly, I've always suspected the 2nd, no matter what they say on the boards. I'm glad we finally have proof!! ;-)

Sept  2002 - Congratulations on your Covenant Armor!

That silver and purple set is gorgeous! What great friends you have. :p

Keep up all your great work on the site! I'm looking forward to reading your thoughts on AC2 as that site develops.

G'Day Maggie!

I saw the screens of your new covenant armor and I have to say, it's looking good :)

You haven't updated your armor pages in quite a while. Any plans on doing this soon? (I would have thought that you would be excited to post the stats of your new fancy purple armor :)

Hi Systor and Ginzu -
Thanks for the compliments. As many of you already know, I believe that looking good is extremely important! ;-) I can't thank Cyrano enough for assembling such a fine set for me.

I do eventually plan to restart the Runway. I have to admit that I would get bugged about it so much in-game, I got a little turned off from working on the section. When I play, I like to... play. But, even though it hasn't been updated in a while, it remains a hugely popular favorite. So, I will be opening up the Runway again, yes.

(Nooooooo, please nobody /tell me in-game about the Runway!! I will squelch you!!!)

Sept  2002 - Error on Currency Page

I was studying your excellent info on the economy page when I noticed an error in your trade note display: I.E. you omitted the M-note from the list of notes available, a small but important omission.

BTW I Love your great information, please keep up the great work.

Your Admirer (HEH!)

Hi Joranthas -
Oh dear. How did that happen!! I will correct it asap. Thanks very much for pointing out the omission!

Sept  2002 - Axes

You think you can give me a list of all the axe quests on Leafcull? And I would personally like to meet you in the game, so when are you usually on?

Well that's all I have to ask. Have a good one
.

Val Halla of LC
Level 21 Axer

Hi Val Halla -
The easiest way to find all the Axe quests is to simply look on the Axes page in the Sports section. The axes in the game are separated out into quest/crafted axes, store bought axes, and a random sampling of looted axes. Hope that helps.

As to meeting me in-game, that's not something I usually agree to. I actually get a lot of requests from people and I just simply don't have time. I have an extremely busy job that eats up a lot of my time. I usually only get to play AC a few times a week, and then and for not-long periods of time. If I spent that time socializing, I would have very little left over for actually playing. So, I'm sorry, but I always have to say no to these sorts of requests across the board. Nothing personal.

Sept  2002 - Getting Flagged for the Gaerlan's Citadel Quest

Hi Maggie,

I may be able to illuminate at least one of the other ways to get flagged to receive a reward at the end of the Gaerlan's Citadel quest. I was going through with a group of 40-59's and I had the highest life magic, so I got elected to imperil and vuln Gaerlan. In the course of imperiling him, I was given the message "Your efforts have not gone unnoticed." It was a little more detailed, but every time I landed a vuln or imperil on him I got the message. We didn't have enough people to kill him so we didn't get our rewards. :o(

U'mot
War Mage of Leafcull

Hi U'mot -
Thanks for clarifying that. I know War Mages were getting flagged with critical hits. I'm sure that other mages will be interested in hearing how to be flagged for a reward!

Sept  2002 - Hmmm - Publishing the AC2 Site

Dear Maggie --

I saw your mention of the upcoming AC2 site, and have looked over the Dereth Living pages. Everything looks wonderful! Really good work, congratulations. Your efforts will help Asheron's Call adventurers master a new world. Eventually.

But, er ...when were you planning to make the new site available to every body out there? I mean, that's not what we did last time, remember?

Your first site was up for QUITE A FEW MONTHS for just ME. I was able to benefit from all the tables and lists and coordinates and data and so forth. It gave me an "edge," and helped me compete effectively. It was very handy!

So, I was wondering if, you know, we could perhaps do the same thing with the new site. Put it up for everyone some time next Spring, or early Summer. That will give you time to make it EXTRA GOOD and may actually increase its success and acceptance. People can be VERY CRITICAL, as I know you know.

I would be glad to act as a sort of one-person beta team. I could provide valuable feedback about what types of information to emphasize. I know you'll want to have a lot of material about archery, for example.

Another benefit is that you would save the cost of hosting and bandwidth -- because you wouldn't need to actually host the site until next Summer or Fall! Just send me the new or updated pages via email or ZIP disk.

I could also stop by and pick up print-outs of the pages. I'm excited! Let me know how we should handle it; I'm ready to start testing whenever you give the word.

What do you think about shooting for a super-duper rollout maybe next Christmas? That is, Christmas 2003. Lots of press releases, lots of "buzz," the works! I think this project will set a new standard for wonderfulness, so let's take the time we need to get it right. Thanks!

Ned Cleversun of TD
Level 90 archer/mage

Hello my wonderful vassal -
That's a very interesting idea you have. As you know, I'm actually quite a perfectionist and very detailed. I can see how working on the site for another year or so will make it just that much better.

Rest assured that as of right now, although I have announced the URL, I have not done the official public launch of the site. I think it's too soon; too much work remains to be done. So although you may have to share the data with a few enterprising individuals who are secretly poking around the site in these early days, I want you to know that everything there so far has been published just for you!!
