You can use the third party
Decal
plug-ins, such as
Topheron's Doom or
Combater to log information while you play. Make sure you have
the Log Spell Info option checked. These numbers can also be calculated
manually, for those who prefer not to use plug-ins. Use the @log command to
save your results to a text file.
For Creature Casting
Attack Skill:
Look in your log file for a sequence like this:
[Date] [Time], Your Name,
ResistSpell, Banderling Mauler, You resist the spell cast by Banderling
Mauler
[Date] [Time], Your Name, SkillExpChange, Magic Defense, 263,263
[Date] [Time], Your Name, TotalExpChange, [xp], InFellowship, True/False,
CharLeve, [Level]
In this case, the
Casting Attack Skill of the Banderling Mauler is 263
(The first number is the xp into the magic defense skill; the second number
is the "difficulty" of the skill check.)
You may find varying numbers, depending on the school of attack cast.
To find the number
manually, write down the current amount of xp you need to increase your
Magic Defense Skill. Resist a spell by a creature, then write down the new
amount of xp you need to raise your MD skill. Subtract the 2 numbers to get
the change in xp. Divide by 2 to find the casting skill of the monster.
For Creature Magic Defense Skill:
Topheron's Doom also helps you calculate the Magic Defense Skill of
Creatures. This number can also be calculated manually.
Write down the number of
xp you need to raise your magic attack skill (example: War or
Creature) to the next point. Attack a creature with a spell and quickly note
how much you now need to raise your magic skill to the next point. If the
creature resists, this will not work and you'll have to wait for the timer
to be reset (15 minutes since the last skill use). Subtract the two numbers
to find the total amount of xp you received into the skill for successfully
casting the spell, then divide by 2 for the creature's Magic Defense number.
For Creature Experience:
To get an accurate experience value, you need to be within 3 levels of a
creature level. As your level over the creature increases, the amount of
experience you receive decreases. To calculate the adjusted experience when
you are 4 or more level higher than the monster, use the following formula:
Adjusted_exp = (Creature_Level + 3) / Player_Level * Actual_Creature_exp
To find the actual
experience, use the following formula:
Actual_exp = Adjusted_exp / ((creature_Level
+ 3) / Player_Level)
NOTE: This was the formula
pre March 2003. Orion has stated that "There is now a complex equation that
is used to calculate the experience yield of creatures." At this time,
it is unknown whether the formula has changed.
