Basic Tinkering skills are ones
that any player may use, even without a single tinkering skill trained. There's
no skill check involved and any quality salvage may be used with success. Using
either Leather or Ivory will not count as one of your 10 possible tinkering
applications to an item.
Ivory was introduced in the
Festivus
event. Use Ivory on certain no-give quest items to make them able to be given.
Item that have been tinkered with Ivory become attuned and may only be used by
the one who tinkered it. It's a great way to free up some pack space!
Leather, introduced during
A Swelling Tide,
is used to give items the retained property. Retained items cannot be sold and
may not be salvaged. Anyone who has ever accidentally salvaged a pair of Sword
Mastery VI sollerets will rejoice!
